If anyone takes the time to research our history, this is not without precedence. In fact, it was kind of mild. Every President lie's to get what they want. Like voted into office. Obama is taking it to the extreme with great consequences. He needs to be called out. Bailing out the banks didn't work. They are now raising the rates on their customers cards and accounts and bills with the free money they got from are government. Bailing out health care won't work either. Going after the drug company's who push their high cost drugs on us by giving the doctors free vacations and lunches so they will prescribe us these commercial drugs instead of something cheap that actually works. I don't see that happening though since they donate so much to the presidential campaigns. Then they need to go after all these foreign doctors that are raping are medicare and medicaid systems. They over book their patients and give unnecessary test to get rich quick. I watch this stuff going on everyday. That's another thing the IRS which is government run doesn't have enough workers to catch the doctors that's don't pay their taxes. They also need to stop letting the illegals get free health care. I have had different forms of welfare checks here paying off illegal immigrants bills. Government issued welfare checks. Giving people free health care wont fix the problem. Do you expect me, a small businessperson, -an employer who meets a payroll every THURSDAY to absorb these taxes , surtaxes, mandates, and costs without a reaction? My reaction is less risk taking, less hiring, less investing, under-reporting income, hiring relatives, and outsourcing work to sub-contractors (you figure out what that means.).

I will still do well, but not the next highest employee that works in my company.

I am glad to see there have been some posts attempting to accurately define the term Fascism that has been thrown around so incorrectly. If any Republican wants to identify Fascism they need not look farther than their own shoes and the last 8 years. The event had been the subject of a hysterical campaign by right-wing talk show hosts and Republican politicians who warned that the president would use it to indoctrinate children in his “socialistic” agenda. The news media gave wide coverage to these semi-fascistic elements demanding that schools prohibit the airing of the president’s remarks and exaggerated the impact of their campaign. Regardless of the efforts to push him further to the right, Obama had no intention of using the occasion to provide any insight into the conditions young people are facing, let alone encourage any questioning of the status quo. On the contrary, as is his wont, the Democratic president went out of his way to conceal the social realities in America and to suggest that the problems facing students are essentially of their own making.

Obama cited his biography and that of his wife as proof that hard work and perseverance was all that was needed to overcome obstacles and attain success. “Here in America, you write your own destiny. You make your own future,” he claimed, rehashing the “rags to riches” nostrums of the 19^th century dime novelist Horatio Alger.

In another refrain, Obama said, “[A]t the end of the day, we can have the most dedicated teachers, the most supportive parents, and the best schools in the world—and none of it will matter unless all of you fulfill your responsibilities. Unless you show up to those schools; pay attention to those teachers; listen to your parents, grandparents and other adults; and put in the hard work it takes to succeed.”

In other words, good schools, well-paid teachers and decent living conditions for young people are not essential to a good educational outcome! Those who fail, according to Obama, simply lack the moral fortitude to achieve the success and wealth of the American Dream.

There is a political purpose behind this nonsense. First and foremost it is aimed at concealing the fact that his administration—which has handed over trillions of dollars to Wall Street—is systematically starving schools of financial resources and directly contributing to the further collapse of public education.

Standing next to Obama at Wakefield High School in Virginia was Education Secretary Arne Duncan, the administration’s point man in the restructuring of the public education system. Over the last year, Duncan has threatened to withhold federal stimulus money to near-bankrupt school districts in order to blackmail them into expanding for-profit charter schools and merit pay for teachers. And far from breaking with Bush’s reactionary No Child Left Behind measures, the Obama administration has accelerated the firing of teachers and administrators at allegedly “failing” schools.

The day of Obama’s speech, the New York Times published a front-page story detailing the massive budget cuts hitting school districts across the country. The article noted that stimulus money had failed to stop the layoffs of thousands of teachers and other school personnel in Arizona, California, Georgia, Michigan and a dozen other states. As a result, in Arizona “some classrooms were jammed with nearly 50 students when schools reopened last month, and the norm for Los Angeles high schools this fall is 42.5 students per teacher.

The "people who represent us" are the ones who are supposed to listen to people, They're the only ones with the power to pass legislation, or appropriate money. The Executive branch can merely make suggestions for policies or plans they would like to see as legislation or appropriations. For example, on the health care issue, if the Executive branch could pass health care reform by itself, it would already be done. If the plight of our schools could be changed by the Secretary of Education, it would already be over.

We, like many communities across this nation, have become very proactive in the rebuilding of our community under this administration. We are an inner city community which fought for tons of stimulus money, for education, for improvement of our medical care delivery system, for small business development which produces more job opportunities, for programs to prevent foreclosure, for green building and retrofitting of homes to be sold to expand our affordable housing base and thus, an increase in our tax base, etc. We were supposed to have massive teacher layoffs too. But we had NONE. And we will actually be hiring more. We also have millions more in stimulus money still coming over the next three years. They are our tax dollars, after all (or anyone else's who doesn't want them back), and we figured while everyone else was so busy thinking of new names to call each other, figuring out who to blame next, and yelling at town hall meetings, instead of quietly and civilly meeting with legislators, we would let everyone else keep making the news and wasting time. We would put aside politics, religion, race, age, etc. and just roll up our sleeves and take advantage of all those tax dollars to rebuild a 21st century community we can all be proud of. We need nothing from the feds but our money back. We are not the only community doing this. So please, the rest of you keep having fun out there. The longer it takes anyone else to quit being so divisive and learn to work together, the more there will be for us who have already figured that out.

As tip O'Neill said, "All politics are local." He was right.

As for us, the feds have been asking to come and see us, not the other way around. We may let them, if they pay us. When we are done, our meters will be running backwards, we will have many businesses with an abundance of jobs and well-paid workers, great medical care, a lot of people booted off their welfare butts, nobody sleeping on the streets, no illegals, and a beautiful community, where an inner-city community once stood. We also took our drop-out rate from 42% in our first shot at a new high school program to 6% in one year. We have other plans, so we are all busy - much too busy to just complain and argue, or yell nasty things at people speaking in public venues.

John McCain was interviewed after the speech and was asked about the incident. With a very straight face he said the same as I, rude and disrespectful and added that he should appologize to the president immediately! He also added, it's time we all sat down together to come up with the perfect plan.I didn't vote for McCain, but that was exactly what ALL parties should be doing.I personally think that congressman from S.C should be sanctioned as an example to the Congress that they behave as ladies and gentlemen and treat our president with the respect he deserves.

When the president's address started, I told my husband that I thought it was offensive for the democrats to just sit there and not acknowledge anything that Bush said during his speeches and that now the republicans were doing the same thing. Unfortunately, the America's Affordable Health Choices Act is riddled with loopholes. Section 1714 states, "in determining eligibility for services under this subsection, the State may consider only the income of the applicant or recipient." This means that for certain non-essential services, the state can disregard an individual's immigration status and look only at the individual's income. ( ALLOWING ILLEGAL ALIENS)

Section 1702 of the bill requires that "the State shall accept without further determination the enrollment under [the Medicaid program] of an individual determined by the Commissioner to be a non-traditional Medicaid eligible ( ILLEGAL ALIENS) individual." However, the bill does not require the government to apply the existing citizenship and identity verification requirements that exist in the current Medicare statute.

Section 242 is supposed to allay the fears of people like me because it states that "undocumented aliens" are prohibited from receiving health care. Unfortunately, the bill fails to prescribe a method for determining if an individual is in this country illegally. ( LOOPHOLES).

Current programs such as SSI and Medicare require an individual to present proof of citizenship and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) already has a program (the SAVE program) for determining if an individual is eligible for social services. BUT....under the ObamaCare Bill they are NOT ALLOWED to check to "legality" in any way. ( LOOPHOLES).

No verification mechanism: Dumocrats point to language in the House bill that says illegal immigrants cannot get benefits. While that may be technically accurate, it is far from the truth.

The legislation clearly says it will not fund illegal aliens BUT the legislation also prevents anyone from checking on the citizenship status of any person seeking healthcare. Okay, I looked at the S.C. Congressman's video. It is not adequate. He didn't say, "...my...", he said, "...this...". That statement was not adequate. He must own it to make his apology adequate. Take a look at the video and you will see what I mean.

I am a former Conservative GOP voter who turned independent, moderate, for these very reasons during the Bush Jr. era. The GOP just does not get it, and they will be hard pressed to get my vote back.

While I do think Joe Wilson should have waited until Obama was finished speaking to tell him he was lying. I feel it was an emotional outburst he just couldn't contain. I feel he got sick of the lies and just had to say something in defence of the people.

Illegals have been getting free health care that our own people have been deprived of for a long time. Why not just give that free health care to the citizens of our country and stop trying to Give the people of the USA an inferior health care plan that is a failure in every other country.

I could care less about politics. I haven't voted since I was eligible to for the first time in 1984. Since then I've seen the light. One crook, idiot, dolt...in a public office is as good as the next. So for the past 25 years I've sit back and shirked my civic duty (and avoided jury duty by not being a registered voter hahahaha) and watched these crooks, dolts and idiots and laughed like crazy. During their campaigns they make promises the can't or won't keep. They cow-tow to their largest campaign contributors. They bow and scrape to special interest groups who line their campaign coffers. Politics is not about governing a society; it is about money--how much can a politician make while in office. It's all about how many "fact finding" trips they can take, how many offical or business dinners they can charge to the American voters, and the countless other frills that go along with being a congressman or senator. Their vacations last for months when the average American is lucky to get 3 weeks paid vacation a year.

I took advanced civics in high school and was taught (in theory) how government was supposed to work. Well, either the book or the teacher was incorrect on most counts. The political process and how it works in practice in very unlike how I was taught.

Now about this speech. Was this a formal address to congress? No, it was a speech where the president disiminated his plan on health care. As I recall, there is no formal decorum for a speech. If it was a presidential address, then yes, there is a formal decorum. Sometimes for grins and giggles I turn to C-Span to watch the everyday proceedings of our government at work; mainly cause the rest of TV sucks anyway and news channels are biased anyway. Senators and congressmen are constantly heckled or berated during their speeches or when the camera pans to the others (that have actually showed up that day) you see them writing notes to each other, whispering, rolling their eyes, flipping through papers...and engaged in other behaviors that show they are not paying attention to the speaker that has the floor. It's funny, because I've never heard about any of these actions in the news, BUT, this was the president and the congress is supposed to hold him to a higher regard. Why? He's an elected offical just like them, so what makes him so special? His office? First of all, since the majority of the republicans disagree with Obama, why did they even show up? Were they required to attend this speech? I'm sure they could've stayed home and watched it on the news or C-Span like ordinary citizens. And why is it that republicans seemingly always disagree with democrats? Is it on principle alone? Is it a party requirement to disagree with the other side? That is the biggest aspect of politics I've never understood and probably never will. Yet I see this as the biggest failing of our political system, having only two parties as the majority rule of our government. Obviously this gives us only two views of an issue when there can be more to look at.

So the congressman thought out loud what many of the other congressmen were thinking to themselves. Big deal? No. The president is heckled all the time in his little town hall speeches, so what makes this any different? He should be used to it. His responding only shows his thin skin. In the early days of our government, parties or groups of common thinkers would simply walk out on a speech, regardless of who was giving it. It is common practice during congressional sessions today. I've watched on C-Span as, let's say a democrat was giving a speech on whatever, and a group of other congressmen would simply leave the room. Also in the early days, congressmen would speak out loud their disagreement with the speaker. It was the speaker's choice to respond or carry on with his speech. So in this case, was it proper decorum for the president to respond to the congressman's outburst? Actually no. And they are talking about punishing this congressman for breech of decorum? I did a little research and, well, there's no such thing as punishment for breech of decorum other than a stern talking to by the majority leader, if he/she so chooses. So this whole issue is a moot point. One man has the courage to speak his mind, although a breech of decorum, and suddenly he's "on trial" by the public and his peers for a simple mistake. PULEEEEEZE!!

And you people on here make me guffaw until my sides are about to split. I love the insults, innuendos and just flat out put downs. It's like a free comedy show. It's more like children on the playground, "my dad's bigger than your dad"..."well my dad's a liberal"..."well my dad's a republican"..."well my dad...blah, blah blah." I love you guys. It makes my morning to read the vines on political issues.

Recently I ran across a series of malaproprisms (the misuse of a word or a phrase that often creates a comical effect) that school age students have used in essays submitted to teachers for assignments on politics. I have come to believe that many of these students have the right idea about politics:

I remember Democrats loudly Booing President Bush when he spoke to Congress. It seems like only they are allowed to act on their emotions and speak their mind.

Why the big deal over this. There is freedom of speech in America, and it applies to the Congress also. If you disagree with his comment, there you go, you are free to do so.

I didn't care for his comment, even though without citizen verification, it is suspect that illegals will benefit from the current proposed bill. It is worded so that citizenship is not a criteria, but it is explicitly not allowed to use it to exclude either. So he may not have been totally inaccurate in his statement. It seems there is a double standard, the left can do or say anything they want, and the right has to behave exactly as the left wants them to.

I was originally outraged by his actions, but reading some of the hateful comments, on both sides, I am now totally supportive of everyone's right to speak freely. Otherwise, only one side of the story may be heard.

Take another look at the video containing an inadequate statement of apology from S.C. Congressman Wilson. "My comments were inappropriate. I extend sincere apologies to the President for this lack of civility." Wilson doesn't even extend his personal apologies by stating, "...I extend my sincere apologies..." His statement implies that he is extending apologies from others. He further states, "...for this lack of civility." He doesn't own it by stating, "...my lack of civility."

Totally inadequate. Wilson has put shame on the State of South Carolina.

His allegation was completely wrong, illegal immigrants are now excluded from Medicaid, the government-run health care for the poor, and nothing will change, and it seems that health reform will leave in place this status-quo on illegal immigrants. IF Obama is lying, and IF this congressman is correct, then there should be no apology. However, this congressman didn't have the fortitude to stick with his conviction.

I disagree with Rep. Wilson's outburst. That said the fact of the matter is the Illegals are already covered by our healthcare. Until we say "enough is enough" and start billing our "migrant" self-invited guests with a bill for the services they receive from using our emergency rooms as primary care providers,sending those who refuse to pay in a reasonable time home,any health care overhaul is a waste of time. What Rep. Wilson did was unfortunate because it gives cover for those who wish to avoid debate.

It's totally understandable that someone would be overwhelmed and frankly just plain fed up with Obama's lies. It's obvious to me that one of our Congressmen finally reached his tolerance level and lost it. What makes this so very strange is Wilson's choice of statements to "shout out." That illegal immigrants are NOT covered has been clearly stated in every Democratic proposed bill (6 in all.) In fact, the statements are so blunt and direct that there is come concern as to what exactly is the status of legal immigrants (tourists, students, H1B holders, and relatives of American citizens on their way to citizenship.)

And to make the situation even stranger, the Congress just passed legislation requiring that a government-issued picture ID be presented prior to service at every physicians' office, pharmacy, clinic, hospital, physical therapy center, dialysis center, etc. This was in response to the for-profit health care industries claims that medical identity theft was cutting into their profits and was solidly backed by the GOP. This legislation alone makes it almost impossible for an illegal immigrant to even get service.

This never has been very much of a problem. Illegal immigrants will go to ER's and clinics to get care for their children born here (they are citizens), but seldom go for themselves because they fear being reported to ICE. Contrary to popular belief, most ER's in for-profit hospitals will not treat the indigent except in life-threatening situations and even then they "stabilize and transport" to county/city ER's that do have a mandate and funds to treat the indigent.

I was certainly glad to see your post. It certainly saved me a lot of typing. You have clearly explained exactly what the situation actually is.

There is actually no final bill, so Rep.Wilson's outburst was entirely wrong on so many counts, since he was reacting, according to his own statements, to the proposed versions of an upcoming bill that hasn't even been written yet and amendments which have been rejected and which he supported.

The President certainly wasn't lying because he was stating, primarily for the Democrats who hold the power, what he wanted in the bill they were going to finally send him. He was not referencing any of the proposed bills in any way. Even if any of them had been allowing health care for illegals, he was saying the bill he wanted from them could not include that. Period. So they would have to rewrite it if they expected him to sign it.

The President was laying out the items he wanted in a bill he could sign and what he absolutely would not accept. A President cannot make law, but he can lay down the ground rules for the legislation he expects. It is rather silly to call someone's intentions a lie when they haven't even happened yet.

In addition there are written protocols in the Congressional halls, especially when the President is invited to speak. Debates between two legislators are handled differently, but there are protocols for those too. For instance, hissing and even booing is allowed but frowned on, but direct, insulting verbal outbursts are not allowed when one does not have the floor, and Wilson definitely did not.

Also, he did not really "apologize". He was called by his House leadership immediately as he left the Chamber and told to call the President and apologize. Apparently he had no intention of saying anything if he had not been verbally reprimanded by his leadership, which is also according to his own statements today. He called, talked to the Chief of Staff, and issued a weak written statement. But he still believes he was right.

His actions have resulted in overnight donations of over $100,000 in one night to his opponent in next year's election. They have embarrassed his party, his district, his state, and all of us, since this was seen around the world. We have always rolled our eyes at the fights in Asian parliaments, and the insults hurled about even in the British one. We were supposedly that "shining beacon on a hill" where these things were not done, demonstrating true respect for even those we disagreed with.

Apparently, that line has now been crossed.

It will be more of the same. As HR manager, I have to complete an I-9 for every new employee. But, they no longer have to provide a SS number, AND we cannot ask for specific documents to verify legal status. Applicants only have to provide an appropriate number of documents from the list. Well, I did read the "over 1,000 pages" of the House bill being proposed, Nasty Liberal, and yes it does say that illegal immigrants won't get free health care; however, it says a lot of other stuff that IS a problem. For example, the verbiage is full of "the Secretary of Health and Human Services will have the authority to decide" and "the State Government will decide" and "this will be enacted even if regulations have not been approved at that time" kind of language.

So everyone should be concerned that this bill--if passed--is going to allow a free rein for the Secretary of Health and Human Services. He is going to be able to "interpret" language in the bill and take action (any action) he wants afterwards. So when people say that it will pay illegal immigrants health care in the bill....I think they are realizing that in spite of the verbiage to the contrary in one tiny passage that hundreds of other pages contain phrases that basically say: we can change our mind after the bill is passed you fools.

Section 246 of HR 3200 as currently proposed disallows federal affordability credits for persons not lawfully in the United States. What that means is that an illegal immigrant cannot claim a tax credit on his/her tax return and receive money from the federal government to pay for health insurance. That is not the same as a ban on receiving FREE health care. It is also not entirely clear how that affects persons here claiming refugee status or persons here pending deportation.

There is, however, NOTHING stopping an illegal immigrant from entering a clinic or hospital and receiving health care and claiming that he/she cannot pay, or not paying, being billed for it, and then still not paying. Health care facilities are obligated by law to provide emergency or urgent care. So, yes, the guy from South Carolina is correct, and Obama may be technically correct. There is nothing in HR3200 that affirmatively provides benefits to illegals, but then again there is nothing in the bill that prohibits it either. So Obama did attempt to deceive--we tell our kindergarteners that is the same as a LIE.

Jenny, you missed one point in your comment....MOST legislation is passed long before they have created any forms of regulatory controls necessary for the implementation of the policies of that legislation.....it takes the legislation to begin to set up the regulations. That is why MOST of the current HR3200 and its 4 current variations will take up to 10 years to implement....it will take that long for the Congress and regulators to set the rules controlling the policy. And that is why a simple measure that could be 10 pages long suddenly becomes 1000+ pages. They have to write in all of their legalese language that even a Philadelphia lawyer can't understand.

As for free health care for illegals, check out the statistics by various independent fact checkers. MOST "FREE" ER care is NOT given to illegals.....they are afraid to go in for any healthcare anywhere for fear of being caught. Unless they have a stolen social security card or a fake one, they aren't going to risk being caught. Guess you haven't been to the ER lately. One of the first questions on the admission form is YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER. IF every hospital, medical office, and employer were tied into the e-verification system for checking whether someone has a valid SS number, then we'd have better control on illegals wouldn't we? The bill isn't finalized yet, but in the end I hope that e-verification will be a requirement for ALL medical services and insurance applications.

You're so afraid that the President is going to make you pay (those of you who already have health insurance) for someone else's care, which you're doing already through emergency room visits by anyone, not just illegals, who doesn't have any healthcare insurance, that it's going to make your insurance be either more expensive, you'd have less of it, or both. So what do you do? You go on the attack with your viciously-formed town hall attacks. Now, I must admit, you caught us off-guard with your tactics, no doubt about it. I am fairly certain that there were MANY times a Democrat wanted to break decorum when President Bush was standing in front of Congress, and it never happened. I mean we know there were plenty of partisan differences between the last administration and it's Congress, and yet he was always afforded the utmost respect when he came to speak. Why is it Republicans don't feel the need to return that respect? Individual politicians come and go, respect for the office however, and the will of the American people who vote on whom fills them, should be enduring. He shamed himself, his party, and the constituents he represent.

When congressman Wilson yelled out liar he was disrespectful but he was correct. Under the house and Senate bill Illegals will be covered. The bill states that it does not cover Illegals yet there is not one requirement to prove you are a citizen. So unless an illegal voluntarilly admits they are here illegally they will be covered. 8 amendments have been brought before Congress and the Senate to insure illegal would not be covered and all 8 were voted down on a party line basis. If it is not, than the numbers of uninsured that Obama keeps reciting would have to be dropped by another 4+ million and now the number of people who cannot get insurance becomes a more managable number that may be dealt with by tinkering with rather than overhauling the system.

Although I would like to say that I am appalled by all the people here who are taking the time to back Representative Wilson and his colossal lack of restraint, I am not at all surprised. It is now par for the course with the lunatic fringe, whether right or left, and now to be expected.

However, I believe nothing short of a Public Censure is in order for Representative Wilson. I don't care who he apologized to. He is fully aware of the rules of decorum in the House Chambers, and knew better than to behave the way he did. Further I place the blame for this squarely on the heads of the Republican leadership who have now spent months whipping people into such a frenzy, and this was bound to happen, if not something far worse.

It is time for the leadership of both parties to stand up and say enough is enough. Representative Wilson should be censured, and the Republican leadership needs to take a stand and turn down the volume on their vitriol, before it is too late!

Honestly, I have more respect for someone of either party who would do that.
