The urge to scarf is more than a hunger cue gone wild. It's a window into your nutritional needs and your personality.

Huh, what do we know about stereo types any why is it dangerous to generalize/categorize people like this. For example: if you have a yeast/fungus infection it will make you crave sugar or sugar and salt. But these azzholes would have you believe your a hedonistic loner. good god!!!

This article is ridiculous; I like everything mentioned, so what does that make me? A go with the flow, introspective, yet party loving, nit-picking hedonist?

Wait a minute, yup, that's me!

Wait a minute, I crave sweets in the middle of the night. I must be, I must be, actually I take my blood sugar and it is low. I need to eat later in the day. This article is BS.

I crave chocolate because I love the taste of chocolate and that is about it and I have the butt to show for it.

Pliiiiize give me a break :-) Institute of smell and taste??? Now if that does not take the cake for most useless organization than I don't know what. I suggest another instead. The Institute of Keeping Quiet. This "doctor" spent 25 years on the subject? Then connects this "findings" with the stars? No No No please. But if the doc insists, I suggest he does his "scientific research" and get his doctorate near the fields in China or Vietnam to get the real benefits of the subjects.

Why don't they define what it means when a person eats sugary gumdrops at bedtime & it knocks them out for the night. Anybody know why candy acts like a sleeping pill ?

Wow, one of my cravings directly contradicts their BS. DIRECTLY. People's nutrient deficiencies are completely unrelated to and don't stem from their personality. This is complete pseudoscientific BS!

Now let's all go read some horoscopes!

What a pile of bollox - and I bet this guy gets money form the govt.

He should be force fed chips and be told he is externally buggered - this rubbish makes me so incensed when money could be spent on research with practical, positive consequences.

If you are reading this pseudo scientist give up your grant cash and give it to someone willing to spend thier brain power on proper research.

This is the most lacking piece of rubbish I've ever read. There is no scientific basis for this whatsoever. Plenty of people have varying cravings at various times. This does not, however, mean that they have multiple, opposing personalities.

According to this, my most common cravings make me the outgoing life of the party. Nothing could be further from the reality. I am, and have always been, a introspective introvert.

All this talk of chocolate makes me crave it, and I just ate. What does that say about me? Actually they never said anything about someone who craves white chocolate... I don't like salty foods but I tend to be standoffish. I dislike wasting time and sweat the details but I don't really crave spicy foods... Why is it that some doctors just try to find a reason for human emotion and think and reason? We are humans that is what we do. Not all people have the same feelings, thoughts, and actions. I can't stand it when "society" preceives a certain person as being wrong or looks at them negatively for not being "main streem." Some things are best left unstudied!

What a load of crap! I can see how different types of cravings might indicate mineral deficiences, etc. But to then assign corresponding personality traits is just b.s.  By the way, I'm a Libra - does that mean I prefer corn chips or potato chips?

Sweet and salty - that's sort of equivalent to Thai food. Just came back from Thailand - everyone is so kind and sociable. That's one generalization that I believe is almost universally acclaimed. Not the creative loners this stupid article claims.

This is pseudo-science before making associations between personality types and food craving the author should provide his evidence. So how do you perform a randomized controlled trial on that one? First clearly define the personality types then choose a randomly selected representative sample that's large enough to detect statistically significant differences in food the attitudes of the different personality types and then follow their eating habits for a long enough period and check for differences between groups and your null hypothesis.

In a survey based study I would easily say I worship chocolate but I've only had two in the past 6 months! ;) So what category would that put me in? How about another guy that worships chocolate and goes for it what does that say about his personality?

          Nope... no good!

So what would they make of it if you have a normal appetite and never get cravings? What about those of us who just eat for energy, for fuel - but who otherwise don't think about food?
