Cadmium is in batteries, computer parts, etc. If adults do not eat their jewelry or mouth it there is no risk. Another alleged adult risk that applies only to infants and toddlers. Sensational news item if not entirely illogical. I suppose some will fret about the possibility of toddlers getting at mother's jewelry, or at the mother board of the computer. Heavy metals of all sorts are poisonous if eaten in large quantity but adults don't eat these products. If it were discovered in food that would be another story, a valid one. MSNBC has the health scare of the day syndrome to fill space.
If the label says something is not made here, don't buy it. Its the only way to stop this. Every Christmas I see lead warnings on lights, extension cords, those pretty fiber optic villages, etc. Halloween I see lead warnings on things too. Every state must enact laws that ban toxic substances in consumer products.
Wall Street wanted manufacturing moved out of the USA to make higher profits at any cost to the health of US citizens. It's time to turn the tables and hold US companies liable for tainted products. But wait...we got tort reform so now we may not be able to do that. There was a reason Wall Street wanted tort reform! Do you get the whole picture now?
And who doesn't hold a couple nails between their teeth while hammering? I know I do. And I've seen plenty of others do it as well. I had no freaking idea. Unbelievable!
well this is what happens when all your factories are in other Countries, than the good old USA .Cheeper is not always better go figure that. We are never sorry for trying to save a buck only sorry when we get caught trying to save it at the consumers expence. This Canadian says bring the jobs back to North America and wise up eh!
The Chinese treat American people as carelessly as they treat their own citizens. When are we going to stop pretending that China is anything but our silent enemy?
Are all of you really that naive? Really? Who do you think is directing the China companies making all this jewelry for the WAL MARTS of the world? IT'S YOU! Everytime you complain about paying more then $1.99 for a pair of earrings the reatilers of the world drive that back down the supply chain to the factories. Pure metals without any type of SOMETHING that could be harmful if your eating your dang necklace is exspensive. The testing requirements no in place are ridiculous and exspensive. One test is about $300 USD PER Component of an item. Just to be sure of hazardous metals are not present. How long before we look to the American consumer and ask them NOT to eat their fashion statements....unbelievable ... - Most factories in China are trying to run a business just like most American companies and adhere to what the requirements are being directed by importers but ultimatley it is the consumer driving the cost so low that it makes it impossible for companies to survive....so until you can either learn to pay $8 for something made in the USA (and you think that wont have the SAME stuff in it?) or actually hold people accountable for common sense crap like not putting their necklace in their mouth...this is what we have. This isnt some conspiracy from China to kill off the American population it is the typical American ignorance to basis supply and demand and cost...wake up...
I thought cadmium was banned from almost "every thing" back in the late '70's?

I got bad news for all you cadmium worry warts.
If you use almost ANYTHING that has a corrosion coating other than galvanized metal,
you are dealing with some form of cadmium.
All of those "bright shiny" bolts, nuts and screws in Home Depot are coated with it.
Granted, you don't wear them around your neck, but, they ARE cadmium coated.
Even so called "zinc coated" hardware contains cadmium.
