Tests have shown that the same strain of salmonella that sickened more than 200 people in at least 42 states has been found in black pepper, but it's not clear if it's the only source of the outbreak.

The black pepper? Really??
In a roll of salami I would think that they black pepper would be the least of a person's worries.
You would be surprised at just how dirty most raw spices are. The natural microflora in most spices are quite high and pepper, traditionally, has been down right filthy.
