Is this not just a little over the top for crying out loud. I am going to be very careful to keep my nitrous acid as pure as the driven snow from now on.
They must baffle everyone with lots of el torro poo-poo to keep the money flowing into their research coffers. However, marijuana smoking is good for you and so are all the anti-depressant drugs.
Everyone should also keep their kids inside, cause all the gas fumes and exhaust fumes from auto's and trucks will kill them. And they better make their home air tight too, oh yea, and watch out for all those spiders that may be poisonous, and watch out for those mosquito's in the summer, they may be carrying something, so you best put some off on them, oh wait, that may kill your kid also...
This is just a study in an attempt to fabricate public opinion by those who would control us. I hold a medical degree, and have read the studies on tobacco. Not one holds any water so far.
Some smoking bans are already being lifted. In two to three years, bans will begin to be lifted in many, many places.
I think you're wrong about that, about the bans being lifted that is. I work with medical records and I can tell you that doctors are documenting smoking by parents and family members in every medical report where children are involved. IF anyone smokes either in or out of the house, they are "counseled" about protocol to follow before they touch their child. The medical community is not going to let go of this issue. I foresee a day where smoking parents/family members who don't follow the smoking protocol will have their kids taken away from them.
MaggieInFlorida, check back in a couple of years, and we'll find out together. It's true that some (not all) doctors are documenting smoking occurrence, as reported by the client. Their opinion is just as easily fabricated as the rest of the population!
Pretty soon a "study" will show that reading the word "cigarette" online is bad for your health, to further advance a social engineering agenda.
They're not going to stop until we all eat only bean sprouts and tofu, and make babies by spunking into a test tube! LIFE is dangerous to your health, with a 100% mortality rate!
You all know that you have a 100% chance of being DEAD within 80 years...Right?
There are the 10 or 12 year odds beaters... but sooner or later..........
Life is for living... not worrying about what will kill you. That doesn't mean you need to go skydiving every day while juggling chainsaws and smoking a blunt... But hey... enjoy it while ya got it. These people have way to much to think about and OBVIOUSLY an agenda.
Al Gore jump ship's??? The "ain't so hot climate" is not paying right now and needs to get laws for Third hand smoke?
What are we playing 6 degrees to Kevin Bacon? Me, puchased TV, shipping company, manufacture, assembler = he had a smoke at break time...... HE's going to kill me! Where do I sign up for the class action lawsuit?
Studies also found that incense smoke contains at least 4 times the amount of carcinogens in it as the smoke of one cigarette.
Any studies on how many carcinogens, lead, and CO levels are absorbed by a driver in a one-hour commute on the Kennedy in the summer? That ought to set off the buzzers and bells. LOL
So how did they tell which cancer came from which-hand smoke?
I'd bet most of you complaining and criticizing the findings, are smokers.
Keep on trying to be like lawyers and defend your habit. I've heard tweakers/crack heads do the same thing, and try and defend their habit.
Some people are sensitive to 2nd(or 3rd) hand nicotine, others might be resistant to it. Would you want to take a chance with your kid's health?
When I'm in a bar or a house full of smokers, I feel like @!$%# hours after breathing it in. My eyes burn even when I just continue to wear the clothes that absorbed the smoke.
I used to have respiratory problems, until I got away from both parents who chainsmoked. I went from having burning lungs while playing sports, to being able to run miles without problems. All within 7-9 years of not living with smokers. I was always catching colds or sore throats, until I stopped breathing in 2nd hand smoke regularly.
You can fool yourselves into believing whatever you want. I've already proven to myself that 2nd hand smoke(and maybe 3rd hand), has a negative effect on trying to grow up healthy. I didn't need to see the results of a study to learn it.
While I have not read this particular study, as a physician I do strongly agree with the harms of cigarette smoke in general. I suspect the study may be valid, simply because I myself feel ill (nausea, malaise) when I smell residual cigarette smoke on clothing, in rental cars and hotel rooms, thus always request non-smoking rooms and cars. Patients come in my office with smoke-contaminated clothing and makes me ill.
I do oppose govt intervention in many things, but when my right to good health is violated by others' habits, I'm all for regulation. I am happy now to be able to eat at a restaurant (and spend my money to the benefit of the owner) without getting exposed to nasty cigarette smoke. The slightly over 20% of people who smoke should not trample on the rights of the almost 80% of us who are nonsmokers. If you choose to smoke, don't ruin my health or that of your kids.
Don't like it, don't go there. I'm tired of being nice about giving up what I wish to do because you don't like my habits. Probably lots of your habits I don't like either.
NU,
"I do oppose govt intervention in many things". No you don't. You think that you can get the government to intervene any time you feel your ox is being gored, no matter who you choose to trample on. Guess what, we're organizing; the better than 30% of us who smoke are a signifigant voting bloc when we choose to be. We've just been too damn nice. Every time you choose to push us out, we have let you do it. You've taken that as weakness and pushed some more. No longer. Further, my kids are absolutely none of your business.
Lobo and NU are the only two logical people in this entire thread so far. all the rest clearly are smokers who care more about themselves than their effects on others. "There they go again" please explain how another habit that I may have is going to affect you in anyway shape or form, the same as a smokers habits do to me. I have perennial sinus rhinitis. Doctor explained it to me like this, basically for each second of breathing in smoke I will have an attack for a about a day. So a 14 second exposure I will have an attack for 2 WEEKS. So it is very difficult for me to be able to go out and enjoy myself. I can't goto any clubs, few sports bars, limited restaurants etc.. smokers smoke of all places for some unknown stupid reason, by the main entrance to any building. So I have to stay home most of the time, how fair is that? I goto the store and am sick "draining coughing" for days or weeks depending. But you know what I don't complain or say anything to the a-holes smoking by the door, I care about their opinions to want to smoke. but it's a two way street, they should care about my opinions and not smoke by the door. but you see they don't care and thats the difference. Because if they did they wouldn't be smoking by the door. Smokers don't care that they bother non-smokers. its such an inconvenience, such a burden to them when its a decision they made for themselves but enact on those near them also. So while your habits will reduce my quality of life and maybe even, who knows, eventually kill me, none of my habits will affect you at all, ZERO. How fair is that? its NOT. have some Consideration of others for once and get over your self grandeur.
Ecto, you are totally wrong to classify smoking as a "habit". It is an addiction. It is likely that smoking chemical-laced, nicotine cigarettes is the strongest addiction there is.
Having said that, I absolutely agree with the findings. I smoked many years before I got free from that addiction. While I was in hospital recovering from a heart attack caused, in large measure, by that addiction, my daughter began a cleaning process of my house to make it easier for me when I returned home. She even left my vehicle parked outside, windows open, to help rid it of the stink.
I have been clean for 6 years. The smell still makes me sick and causes difficulty breathing. Even though the house I moved to had not housed a smoker for years, I had to get rid of the carpeting. It still stunk from heavy smokers who had lived there years previously.
Obviously,I could not possibly know what your particular bad habits are since I have never met you. They could be anything, to name a few that adversly affect others drinking, gambling, drug use, careless driving. I do not say that you personally have any of these. I do know that all humans have some habit that causes problems for others. That is human nature. You say that you have a serious allergy which causes a reaction to smoke. Better stay in an air conditioned room forever then since there are all sorts of pollutants out there far worse than second hand smoke. How many such persons are there in this country with problems like this? I haven't done the nuimbers but I would venture to say that it is much less than 5%, just on anecdotal evidence. That is not sufficient to remove rights from others. You say that the smokers gather around the entrances to buildings and bother you. At one time they had separate rooms inside those buildings that were separately ventilated. Thanks to the anti smoking zealots, they were thrown out of those rooms and sent outside. Your problem. You and your friends created that situation by throwing them out. Frankly, after being pushed around for years by holier than thou anti smokers who think they can get away with it, I no longer see any reason whatsoever for being nice about it. They don't want us to be polite, they don't want us to take it elsewhere, they want us to disappear from the planet. Every time we accept their nonsense nicely, they take it as weakness and push harder.
Ecto, like you said.. a two-way street, not ALL smokers are douche-bags who will blow their smoke out in your face, I smoke but make sure i don't bother anyone else. They should have the same respect for me.. Don't walk up next to me and cough, don't tell me to put it out (i wont), and don't tell me when I can smoke. How about this? instead of telling me where I CAN"T smoke, how about telling me where I CAN, by making a designated smoking-area (with an overhead of some kind, I'm not gonna just stand out in the rain). While some places do, there are many that don't. We have every right to smoke, and you have every right not to.
I'm not a smoker, and I agree that smoking is bad, esp. in front of kids. But now we are getting as goofy (third hand smoke???) with this as we are with terrorism. You have as much chance of dying from third hand smoke as you do from terrorism.
Let's keep letting the gov't take away our rights and you won't WANT to live...you'll be begging for a terrorist to blow smoke in your face while blowing you up, just to escape the misery of living under the new post 9/11 K.G.B./Soviet Union of America.
I hope everyone who thinks the government should continue to be more restrictive about cigarette smoking is all of ideal weight. I assure you, the sugar police are just around the corner. And by the way, the state is already telling people that can't get their kids back after they have been removed unless they go to a stop smoking class.
Gimme a friggin break! If all of the bogus health warnings had any credence, none of us would be here! The amount of smoke EVERYONE was exposed to in past years should have killed the human race, from what they try to claim. Mothers and fathers of the huge baby boom generation smoked AND drank, during pregancy even.
BTW, I gave up smoking, and in the third month started developing ALS. How about studying THAT?!
That and there is no solid study on ciggy smoke that stands. In fact the one that everyone bases their claims on, that study that was done by the government was tossed out. No one cares about that. The actual numbers of the study were so small that they were insignificant.
I smoked from 14 to 25, stopped and I still run the mile no problem, lift weights without getting winded and have no issues doing aggressive cardio 1.5 hours a day. Studies are stupid when funded by government for government and given to media by government. That's what got the original study tossed out by the courts.
Too @!$%#ing bad I have to smoke with you ass-munch every time you pull out your little crutch. You give no one a choice when you smoke around other people. But hey don't listen to a person who watched his grandfather lose both his lungs and died a slow death in the hospital. Keep smoking to eliminate your defective genetic material from the planet.
It is bunch of bull@!$%# crap report. It has no bases to it. They still can not prove smoke causes cancer. They need to get a life. Damn retarded idiot people. Everything causes cancer. Oh wait they say beer is good for the bones. Another freakin lie told health professional. He or she should had the licence pulled for good. IDIOTS
Wow. I can't believe how many idiots out there who think that cigarettes are just fine & dandy. When did you go to college and get degrees in science & medicine? Oh wait, you didn't. You all obviously have no idea what you're talking about. Smoking kills & it's not just harmful to the person who smokes, but is also harmful to anyone around. Stop being selfish & stop smoking.
Perhaps we need to make being a mouthy judgmental tight a*s against the law. The acidic, demeaning discourse has to have more of an ill effect on children and others around you than almost any other action an adult can elicit - especially over a lifetime. Maybe others will stop smoking when you stop your addiction to being a nasty human being.
If it's not smoking, you'd just be whining about something else. If I don't want to be around it, I go elsewhere. What a concept. This study is nothing more than an agenda wrapped in a drama queen cloak.
So, Robert knows someone who smoked and died of cancer.
I knew a woman who smoked from the time she was 16 and died of a heart attack -- when she was 93.
At 72, she could dance all night, long after I -- who was 28 at the time -- wanted to call it a night.
Cigarettes are bad for your health. That's obvious. But this insanity of people worried about someone smoking a cigarette in the same building is ludicrous, let alone worry about nicotine on surfaces.
Every summer day I see some idiot jogging along the road in his cool running gear, deep breathing carbon monoxide from the cars passing by. But I bet every one of them would have a fit if someone smoked in their presence.
We had a coal-fired furnace when I was a kid, and we all breathed in that coal dust and smoke - I'm still here. Everyone smoked when I was growing up, except my parents, so I was exposed to cigarette smoke and I think it is dangerous to kids, esp. babies. They seem to have a lot more ear infections and colds if their parents smoke.
I don't where the line should be drawn, but I don't think kids' health should be jeopardized because of their parents' poor health choices.
Logic doesn't enter into it, just power. Are you aware that the ACS had to go through 14 studies before they found one doctor who would say that second hand smoke was dangerous? That's the way they exercise their power. Just keep looking until you find someone who will say what you want.
If cigarettes are so dangerous, why does the United States government allow their cultivation, manufacture and sale, why not just ban tobacco altogether?
Because most of the Congress is interested in keeping their jobs. You saw the reaction to the health care bill? Think what a really angry 30% of voters would do.
You guys are surprisingly ignorant. I'm reminded of the social Darwinists who deluded themselves into believing that the Negroid races were inherently inferior to the Anglo-Saxons well into the 20th century.
As long as we're at it lets ban all auto exhaust, and chimney smoke from fast food restaurants. Dust can get inside your home as well, so I propose airlocks with Class-1000 lab protocols at each entrance.
Before interacting with your child you should probably wash thoroughly with Purell, shave your head and don a full chem suit.
BTW: your child is probably not the next Einstein or Pavarotti, so get over it.
Every year, the government releases figures on the number of "smoking related deaths" in the United States. The most recent figure is 500,000. Most people assume that there is some scientific basis to that figure. Not so! The government "scientists" simply take a flat percentage of the number of people who die from a particular disease, and assume that to be the number whose death was caused by smoking. There are no autopsies, no studies on actual human beings.
4th hand smoke is smoke passed down a generation, it's a killer. But the deadliest of all... 5th hand smoke!! It's smoke that hasn't been smoked yet, it's a silent killer.
Give me a break...scientists can actually tell that an infant/toddler got cancer because they touched a surface that may have been contaminated with nicotine residue? If this is the case, parents had better just keep their infants and toddlers locked in the house so they can't accidentally touch something that has been contaminated. Any person with half a brain knows not to smoke anywhere near a child or their environment. Those with less than half a brain won't understand these findings and will continue to expose their kids.
This article says nothing about smoking near a child or near the child's environment.
You misread or just missed a large piece of the information.
The article states that you do not have to smoke in a room with someone (that is second hand smoke) in order to cause harm. Third hand smoke can cause harm if smoke is stuck to a smoker's skin, hair or clothing. The carcinogens get released BACK into the environment where the smoker GOES. This has happened to ME.
I tend to agree with you on that one. Three years ago I was thin and in good shape but got tired of all the nagging by my family and gave up smoking. Without the cigarettes my metabolism changed and I started to put on weight . Now I am overweight, have painful joints from the weight, have high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes. I'm on three different kinds of medication (cost more than the cigarettes) and can't get health insurance. Yes smoking is bad for your health but I believe obesity is worse.
Are you serious?? You're actually blaming stopping smoking on your weight gain? How about eating habits? Or lack of exercise? Aren't those the real reasons?
I don't put any stock in studies, because people are completely individual. But just for our information, a new study claims that "people who quit smoking have a 70 percent increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes". It was reported in the January 5th, 2010 issue of Annals of Internal Medicine.
However, no one's risk is any percentage except 0% or 100%, and risk ratios do not pertain to individuals.
Except those that are obese(most of them anyway) made a choice for themselves to eat too much or not exercise. they weren't directly affecting the health of others with their bad habits
Judy - A few years back I was climbing a mountain when I thought I couldn't make it up it. My pack seemed too heavy towards the top. The air was thin and I thought I couldn't go any further.
But I could go about 20 feet more, so I did. Then I had to rest. But then I went another 20 feet, then had to sit. Gradually I made it to the top that way. I didn't take the mountain like I thought I would when I was having an easy time climbing near the bottom, but I made it to the top none-the-less.
Don't forget that the small steps can take you places the big ones sometimes can't.
Good luck to you, I know sometimes we see the whole mountain and it seems impossible, but just focus on the small things that we can do. The little things add up to be big things.
The heck they aren't. Who do you think pays for their health care? That, by the way, is the same agrument that was used against smokers a couple of years ago. Always, the interferers try to find reasons to restrict people from doing what they want. They usually try to use "studies" that cook the books to get what they want.
I said they(Obese people) "aren't directly affecting the HEALTH of others with their habits"(except maybe by the bad examples they set for their kids).
I've always said that obese people who have greater health risks, should pay a higher premium for health care. smokers should pay more as well.
but eating junkfood or being fat within breathing distance of someone, is a lot different(I'd say almost harmless) than smoking near/around others who can breathe it in.
evberyone stop breathing because you may breathe out a virus and certain viruses have been proven to trigger cancers......so if we all stop living and just DIE then nobody can be killed by cigarette smoke right?
shh ... it's against the law to die. dontcha know :)
We are not allowed to die, and we must also fit into the new, one-size-fits-all parameters for 'normal' behavior, which are so skinny that it is very difficult to slide in sideways! Down with diversity!
Hmmm. Let's see. We have the world's highest percentage of citizens in prison while our per capita crime rates are 600 times what they were 100 years ago. We haven't had a year's peace since the War to End All Wars. Human slave trading ...in the USA...is up well over a thousand percent in the last ten years. Our descendants will be in debt/enslaved for the next 2.6 million years...and we're worried about this?
Better not eat anything on this list since "trace" nicotine will kill:
Nicotine is an alkaloid found in the nightshade family of plants (Solanaceae), predominantly in tobacco, and in lower quantities in tomato, potato, eggplant, and green pepper. Nicotine alkaloids are also found in the leaves of the coca plant.
It seems to me that problem is first hand nitrous acid exposure. Nitrous acid exposure to household cleaners cause a much greater risk. Why didn't the study point this out?
This is a bs study. I'm a non-smoker - never did, never will, but this is getting way out of control. I think these bozo's are simply trying to raise a little fear that raises a little more grant money to spend. It's getting to the point, we may want to stay in the womb and even that isn't a guaranteed safe place. If these guys don't start getting real in their studies and practical, no one will ever believe them again. Don't forget how many years eggs and saccharin were demonized only to find out they weren't bad after all. Studies like that cause more harm than good.
It's time to OUTLAW smoking altogether. For those of you who can't get by w/o nicotine gum/lozenges - get a gun and shoot yourselves. Spare the rest of us your nasty, fatal habit.
And we should OUTLAW cars, OUTLAW TV, OUTLAW banks (whole other issue), OUTLAW tap water (which has flouride in it), and for the fun of it.. OUTLAW randy, who doesn't really seem to care about anything outside of his box.
10 years ago when I was pregnant, both my ex and I smoked, my doctor told us nicely repeatedly to stop smoking. I eventually did, and the doctor still encouraged my partner to stop smoking, even saying just because you don't smoke in the house, it can still affect the baby and be smelled in the clothes. this study is basically confirming the same thing, I am glad I had a good doctor who told me things that I didn't really want to hear but appreciated hearing why it was better that way. My ex sisterinlaw told me her doctor said smoking was no big deal, I don't know if she was lying or really had such an idiot doctor. (and I broke up with my ex partly because he was such a liar and bad parent, including lying about quitting smoking among other things)
Jumpstart I am sure your better off without him. Tactical is a smoker, clearly. Smokers assertion that it doesn't matter, there are other things to worry about. other things cause cancer so why shouldn't i smoke. well standing on a railroad track will eventually kill you also, so maybe you should try that out since there are other things that will kill you so why worry about it. Smokers logic is that stupid. is it a gene or something that predispositions smokers to be idiots?
Ghostlily, yes smoking is EXACTLY like standing in front of a train, you hit it right on the head.. I have been enlightened, how could I not see it before??
Smoking and it's second and third-hand effects are real....for all you people who don't believe it come with me on my rounds as a long-term care service provider and I'll show you 9 out of 10 patients who are suffering from smoking related illnesses and not all of them smoke. Two grew up in households, married into households where others smoked and they are dying of lung cancer. Go ahead, smoke and continue to smoke around your children...if you don't care about yourselves at least consider those who are around you.
There are numerous nonsmoking illness's. I have a friend now that has lung cancer, never smoked, her husband has never smoke, their religion doesn't allow smoking and she worked in a Dr.s office for 26 years. Emphysema doesn't have to be cause by smoking
granted that smoking is by far the leading cause of lung cancer. however, there are still many other possible causes including simple bad luck and bad genes.
cigarette smoking causes global warming......THAT is the root of the problem!! If we all stop smoking there will be no more global warming....oh and original sin? caused by smoking.......serial killers? all smokers........short people......you guessed it they and their parents are smokers. extinction of species? caused by smoking......ulcers....broken bones.....congenital defects....all caused by smoking...the earthquake in haiti and the devastating tsunami in 2005.....yep all caused by smokers smoking. what vile evil people......nevermind the fact that my 101 year old neighbor has been smoking UNFILTERED cigarettes since he was TWELVE and doesn't have cancer or any other smoking related illness, nor do any of his children, grandchildren, great grand children or great great grandchildren who have been around him their entire lives....it's a conspiracy :/
Perhaps that's why the pasty white fellow meandered on over the US and genocided the natives; because the filthy injuns liked their tobacco. My golly World! Wake up! Stop demonizing plant-life and find a worthy opponent . Try for once, making some sense, behaving maturely and intelligently, and address the additives and chemicals covertly put into tobacco products. This has gone too far. Tobacco absolute is added to many perfumes; is this why every single person who has so much as sniffed a passing tart has died instantly of cancer? Unlikely. Nicotine exists in trace elements in most foods, so go ahead, be a good orwellian cow, and stop eating too. Never mind all the trans fats that exist nowhere in nature, and never mind rogue prions, and the myriad other toxins out there. Common folks! Lets uproot every tobacco plant on Gaia and atomically disassemble them, followed by deletion even from the akashic records. I like a good pipe here and there. It helps me. I enjoy this alone. Maybe the anti-tobacco fanatics can ship me to the moon, with a good store of turkish and virginia, and of course a portable atmosphere, and let me have a modest smoke in peace there. You all can savor your petro chemical hell all to yourselves then. Drive your Hummmmm V's and enjoy your cities too.
the government wants smokers , they make huge money on taxes from sigs, and they know it will kill most who do smoke ,it helps keep the population from going out of controll, im glad im not one of those puppets.
It only takes and IQ of 4. A second grade education and the morals of an alley cat to know that all that crap in smoke is trapped inside yer lungs when you inhale it! Every where I go in public I come into contact with smokers who reek so bad from stale smoke that it burns yer nostrels and makes you wanna vomit. No proof is needed to determine if cigarette smoke causes cancer. Science knows exactly each and every chemical contained in tobacco smoke. They also know each and every chemical which causes cancer. Do you still need a picture? You wanna smoke? Yes it is your personal right. Just don't do it in my air space.
No. They don't have a clue. They can only name about 400 and of those they think only 40 to 60 may be carcinogenic and even those can't be proven to be killers. The 4,000 or so chemicals was a guess made by James Repace, one of the most anti smoking ban pushers who has been the lead in most of the government studies.
The latest research into passive smoking. It has been discovered that mechanism that triggers lung cancer in non-smokers is quite different to that in smokers.
Therefore breathing in other peoples smoke will not ever give you lung cancer. "INTERPRETATION: Lung cancer in never-smokers should probably be regarded as a different disease-entity than smoking-induced lung cancer. This could impact prognosis as well as treatment." www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19844277

Come on now, this is just another ploy from the Democrates to raise taxes on tabaccoo again. Tabaccoo users are already paying an exsorbitent amount of taxes on thier habit all of which have been imposed by Democrates. Lets tax Sonny's BBQ Joint for the smoke they put out.........it leaves a lingering smell too....or what about the guys re-tarring an asphalt driveway, that cant be any worse the BBQ can it??? And while were at it, what effect does extreamly loud rap music from the car next you have on an unborn child?????? Lets tax that too....YES WE CAN !!!!!!

I wonder if the researchers checked out restaurant kitchen walls, especially Bar-B-Q joints. Or even a home kitchen range hood?
The cigarette gestapo has totally lost it.
This has to be one of the most absurd reports I ever saw. Take a hike.
I don't buy this one.
Buy it. They're trying to set it up right now.
DEAL WITH IT!
Just a quick reality check....
Figures the study comes out of the Peoples Republic of California. I give no validity to this "study".
Lobo,
Don't like it, don't go there.
AHHHH !! Were All Gonna Die !!!!
How long before they start whining about the dangers of “fourth hand” smoke?
ecto,
Obviously,I could not possibly know what your particular bad habits are since I have never met you.
The Chinese smoke way more than we do, but outlive us.
The secret: 1/1000 of the Doctors per person that we have.
3rd Hand? Let me guess, so people can't even smoke outside.
That's why the call the US the Home of the Free.
We have every right to smoke, and you have every right not to.
yeah, riiiiight.
what a stupid comment, ryan probably believs in "faith-healing" too.
(nods head sadly at the irrational and deranged stupidity of some people)
I'm not a smoker, and I agree that smoking is bad, esp. in front of kids.
Nope. Not over the top. I got sick from someone else's smoke reside on their hair and clothing. (I needed oxygen- worst case of Bronchitis)
Note that I am not a baby, a toddler, nor a hypochondriac.
Hey Robert, Wanna Smoke??
Robert is off his meds.
Robert needs a cigarette.
Do any of you eat out at places that have plates?
Those plates have pesticide residue from the mandated control of insects.
What? Did you think they rewash every plate after the exterminator comes? Nope, they usually just cover the plate storage with sheets or tablecloths.
But you'll still eat there. Why? Because the amount of the poison is very low. Same thing with this "study". Note how they never quanitfy amounts.
All of our homes have mold. But it's the amount that matters.
Water can kill you. Drink 2-3 gallons at once and you can die. So is water a lethal substance?
Don't make it personal, robert-294233. You're suspended for a day for violating #1 of the Code of Honor.
Good point.
Don't know about the airlocks but they're working on the rest.
Right on.
LOL
Good one, Spybee.
LMAO! Thank you!
AWESOME!!!!
So yet another reason to tax tobacco. How about breaking the double standard? OBESITY is the #1 health problem today. NOT SMOKING
How about that 3 freaking dollar taxation on all of the Big Macs and Twinkies sold?
Oh; that's right... politicians like their fatty foods.
Lobo,
The heck they aren't.
Obesity does lead to the three leading causes of death- cancer, heart disease and stroke.
Also, Diabetes.
HOWEVER...obesity of an individual does not harm the environment or cause health problems in others.
Yawn. Didn't I read this garbage last year?
I wonder how much TAX PAYERS paid to have this study done?
evberyone stop breathing because you may breathe out a virus and certain viruses have been proven to trigger cancers......so if we all stop living and just DIE then nobody can be killed by cigarette smoke right?
shh ... it's against the law to die. dontcha know :)
We are not allowed to die, and we must also fit into the new, one-size-fits-all parameters for 'normal' behavior, which are so skinny that it is very difficult to slide in sideways! Down with diversity!
no, you are only allowed to die when the government finds that you have become inconvenient.
Hmmm.
Oy vey.
The current recession is a result of 6th hand smoke causing stupidity.
Ms. O'dummy is preaching against obesity. Guess she hasn't looked behind her lately. Tell her to haul butt and she'll have to make 3 trips.
Really? please....
It seems to me that problem is first hand nitrous acid exposure. Nitrous acid exposure to household cleaners cause a much greater risk. Why didn't the study point this out?
because this is not an anti-household chemical report...it's and anti-smoking report duh! LOL
Remember when they said cow farts created ozone problems.
lol
It's time to OUTLAW smoking altogether. For those of you who can't get by w/o nicotine gum/lozenges - get a gun and shoot yourselves. Spare the rest of us your nasty, fatal habit.
As long as you hang your self and spare us your toxic, nasty comments and self. Thank you.
Don't be two faced dude. We saw you behind the garage with a cig hangin from your lips. We won't tell mommy.
Don't smoke, but YOU sir are an ass. Don't like smoke GO AWAY!
Randy--Only a fool would make the comment you made.
I can quit smoking...can you quit being a rude obnoxious creep? I will if you will!
Go away please
never happen, ugly goes to the bone, and randy is the ugliest type of self-righteous jackass.
And we should OUTLAW cars, OUTLAW TV, OUTLAW banks (whole other issue), OUTLAW tap water (which has flouride in it), and for the fun of it.. OUTLAW randy, who doesn't really seem to care about anything outside of his box.
There's no question or arguement about the dangers of smoking..first, second, third hand-whatever.
When my grandkids arrived, I went to an electronic smoking system...completely took me off of cigarettes..couldn't be happier.
(and I broke up with my ex partly because he was such a liar and bad parent, including lying about quitting smoking among other things)
jumpstart--I sure he is much happier now.
And third hand is a problem? Sure!
But soon as your 101 yr. old neighbor dies, they will say it was from smoking....
"Try for once, making some sense, behaving maturely and intelligently, and address the additives and chemicals covertly put into tobacco products."
I was thinking the exact same thing when I read the article and the study focused on nicotine. I guess formaldehyde isn't a big deal.
Kate,
Can't you recognize sarcasm by exaggeration? Heins does it tolerably well.
Ummm, yeah. He made valid points, and I was agreeing with him, and using my own sarcasm.
Ridiculous taken to yet another level. For Christ's sake, stick'em in a bubble and call it done. ENOUGH already.
the government wants smokers , they make huge money on taxes from sigs, and they know it will kill most who do smoke ,it helps keep the population from going out of controll, im glad im not one of those puppets.
Bill....what about that aftershave you wear that kills everyone in the elevator?? Is that any better?
Then don't enter "my space" when I'm smoking!

If you don't know what our talking about, you should keep silent and be thought dumb rather than speak and remove all doubt.
