I am having radiation therapy and each treatment is $6,000. My insurance pays $3,500 of it. There will be five treatments. My savings will cover this, but it won't cover too many more expenses like this. This isn't the only money I have been out. After all I had surgery too. My sister cannot get health care if she retires because of a pre-existing condition. This scares me a lot. In California Blue Cross paid people bonuses to rescind policies. This doesn't scare you. Fine.

Our health care system is far worse than those of other countries that spend less than half as much as we do and are far more successful at curing people. People need to understand the fundamental nature of ~any~ insurance. You need to pay more then what they provide you, else they would lose money and not be solvent. The only organization that can take on the "pay more out then you take in" is the US Government, because tax's are used to cover the expenses.

Please allow me to share with you a burning example from my own life: On Mother's Day, 1997, my 86 year old mother died three times and was revived three times in the intensive care unit at Arlington Memorial Hospital. She had lived with congestive heart failure for 25 years, so her death was not entirely unexpected.

By the time I got there, she was sitting up in bed, doctors all around her. All her monitors indicated that she was instantly terminal. They wanted me to just allow her to die, but when I asked her if she would rather die than live on for a few weeks, she vigorously stated that she wanted to live.

He has written three books, the latest of which is "The Hidden Face of God." Emily, your post left me in tears because it reminded me of the death of my dear parents. They died instantly and apparently painlessly of heart disease years apart at advanced ages, but it is a profound loss when both your parents pass on leaving you an exceedingly unhappy orphan all alone in the world.

I lost a grandmother and two close friends to cancer, my grandmother to stomach cancer, one of my friends to melanoma of the scalp that grew down through his brain and came out inside his mouth before he died, and the other to bladder cancer that reduced his massive 220 lb body-builder's physique to skin a bones in eight months of suffering.

Going through that awful, long dying experience with my friend made me sad but also made me mad. I got on the Internet and began to study cancer and its various reputed cures while my friend was alive, but my search greatly intensified after I saw him die. That really brought it home to me.
