An initiative to get sugary drinks out of U.S. schools has begun to work, with diet beverages and smaller portions replacing some full-size, full-calorie varieties in school vending machines, organizers said on Monday.

Well, yeah. If you remove the soft drinks from schools, the kids won't buy them there. Stands to reason. What else is this supposed to prove? Most soft drinks have high fructose corn syrup in them instead of sugar, anyway. This really proves nothing.
Yeah, I don't think this is all that useful either. I wonder if students didn't just bring soft drinks into school with them, though I imagine removing the beverages from the school curbed impulse purchases during the day. Since they didn't measure consumption, there's really no way to tell.
Do you read the papers? How did you miss the fact that New York state has proposed a 1 penny per ounce tax on all sugary beverages? Mayor Bloomberg is in favor of it and public polls show growing support.
Glad it is working. At the same time having grown up when soda pop was not available at school. I have never understood letting them into schools to start with.
Damn these evil government socialist conspiracies to try to lower obesity!
Keybridge Research president Dr. Robert Wescott said in a statement: "The reduction of calories in schools is real and meaningful. The data truly speaks for itself." "Data" is a plural word.
Nice, now if they could just ban fast food joints we might stand a chance!
