While overall I don't disagree with assisted suicide in very extreme cases, if they pushed a depressed person over the edge, then they should be punished. I do believe that we should have the right to die if we are in constant pain and we are ruining lives of our loved ones with our ailments and have 0 quality of life.
It is everyone's right to die. And who do you think is going to be able to pay for and take care of all the old people who will soon flood the system. I am a babyboomer, rebellious and think for myself. I will decide for myself when I decide to die, no church, government etc. will decide for me. Final Exit is a good and informative book on the subject, and anyone with even half a brain ought to read it and decide for themselves how to go. Unless you want to live in some crappy nursing home, burden your family or live a poor quality, or all of the above.
It is time for prosecutors to pursue some real crime and criminals for a change. Why don't they do something useful and put all the child molesters and murderers behind bars or in the death chamber ???? No, they'd rather be chasing something frivolous like telling people how they can or cannot end their own lives.
I'm with you, oh, 150%, Jean. No church or government will decide when I die, either. I've read Final Exit, too, and one can only come away from it with an increased sense of compassion. This country is tremendously backward in so many ways, and this is one of them. I would really like to see doctor-assisted suicide legalized. Only the dying know when they can no longer tolerate living.
She had severe mental issues and was frequently depressed, and she used to tell people that she was going to kill herself, usually in a plea for attention or when she couldn't get her way. She was not terminally ill. She was the kind of person who was easily swayed, and took whatever advice the last person she talked to gave her.
I think these people talked her into killing herself, helped her get everything she needed, and then they stood by while she did it, cleaned up all evidence of what had been done, and left her body for her sister to find.
I believe that groups such as this CAN do some good for those who are terminally ill and in great physical pain - but, for the woman I knew, they acted as ghouls who led her to her death.
We do more for a dog in excessive pain in our society then we do for a human being. I think everyone should have the right to choose if they want to die in a humane manner-rather than
It's ok for us to end the suffering of an animal that is dying, but it's not ok for us to help a loved one who is dying and in suffering. Someone explain this to me because I don't get it. If a person is terminally ill and there is no chance for recovery, why are we forcing them to live? Why put the extra burden on their family members? Why pay the extra medical cost? If they want to die.....why can't we help them do it with dignity? There are more important things to worry about like rape and murder. Let these people die with dignity and prosecute those that need prosecuting!
Danielle, they force them to live and suffer and offer the religion excuse, it's a sin to end your own life. In plain words, they are forcing us to abide by their beliefs. I wouldn't let an animal suffer but they want us to suffer. I think those that help someone terminally ill go in peace should be praised.

I knew the woman they "helped" in Arizona.

Excellent point, Stephanie. I was with them when both of our dogs were euthanized, and it was a gentle, painless, compassionate process.
