Instead of being ignored and put back on the street due to no money and insurance, under our wonderful present excuse for a health care "system" (joke)!
Washington politicians just keep adding more and more to the rights in this country. Wonder if this was a politicians dog. That will add at least another 200 to 500 pages to our health care reform. After all the government has to take care of everyone and everything in our lives, even the dogs know that now. Wow how low can we go.
On the upside, yaaay! for the dog. Do-gooders in ER make right choices...everything ends well. On the downside, politicians ask owner to use dog's personal experience as a testimonial to why current health-care legislation should be pushed through.
German Shepard's are one of the breeds that's right up there in the "smarts" category. I'd love to have one, but we are a working household, and I don't think it's fair to leave such an amazing animal alone all day.
Auzzie, you are exactly right. You cannot put anything past a German Shepard. I have no doubt that he had a sense of what facility he was walking into. I have had dogs all my life and I do not know what I would do without. Once, without my knowledge, my dog jumped out of our parked car where I ran in to a drug store to pick something up. It was a cool day; however I had the window slightly down in the car. I found her browsing through the isles at this drug store taking her sweet time checking things out. It was hysterical. They are the absolute best things on the planet.
Back in the 40's my folks had a wired hair terrier that had a fondness(???) for porcupines and my Dad took him to a vet when he got involved the first time. After that the dog just went to the vet by himself any time he had an encounter with one. The vet said he had never seen a dog do that, so he and my Dad just started a running tab. My Dad was pretty fast at building a fence to keep the dog home. Amazing the dog was smart enough to go where he knew help was available but not smart enough to quit chasing porcupines.
My Shepherd used to like to hang out at the local convenience store and wait for an unsuspecting patron to leave the window of their car open............he just liked to go for rides.
When the owner returned to find him sitting in the passenger seat, "Bandit" would stare straight ahead, as if to say, " don't pay any attention to me, I'm just along for the ride". (By the grace of God I'd always get him back)
You know how when you point at something, the dog looks at your finger?
He used to fetch a stick in the pond. If he didn't see it when he got there, he'd look back at me and I'd point the direction he needed to swim to get it....off he'd swim.
He was the smartest dog. You could see him "thinking". I could write a book.
And as you might have guessed, I loved that dog like my son..........which is what I called him.
Our extra huge German Shephard loved to sit in front of me panting in my face. I'd tell her, "quit breathing!" and she'd hold her breath! I much prefer the company of cats, but who can help but love a dog that'd do that just to stop annoying me?
Clint Horace you are a sick puppy! What does a hurt dog have to do with a wet dream? Are you dreaming that you are a dog? Wake up dummy! And get your mind out of the gutter. Can't you just enjoy a humble dog story? The dog was hurt. Not looking for a @!$%#! I mean a female dog. Some people always have their mind in the gutter trash....and I think you are one of those.
Bluedreamcatcher, You need to lighten up. I thought the wet dream story was very interesting and appropriate to the thread. You seem to be the one with your mind in the gutter. Clint shared a medical observation. You are the one who interpreted it as a dirty story.
Regardless of what you THINK my intentions were for posting that tidbit, did you know, or do you think it is at least an interesting observation?
If someone were to tell me that, having never seen it, I would be skeptical.
Since we were talking about "smart" dog's, I surmised that MAYBE this was an indication of intelligence, as it would require some degree of "reasoning".
And as I said, with this particular dog, you could see him "thinking" about how he was going to approach a certain task. He was smarter than some people. Surely you can relate to that.
ClintHorace, I used to have a 140# shephard that new the difference between speak and speak softly also. You are the first person I've heard with the same story. We used to have a lot of fun having him do that in front of people. I have a doberman now that's really good but I can't get her to do things like that. Good memories!!
Another good trick was to tell him "Go to your room and close the door". He would give you this sad look like "what did I do wrong?" and then just go in and shut the door. Hilarious!
I had an Alaskan Malamute that learned how to open jars of spaghetti sauce by unscrewing the lid with his teeth. I loved that dog but he was way too smart!
Speaking of fences, that was the reason my shepherd spent so much time at the convenient store.
He could jump like Michael Jordan. He cleared five foot fences in a single bound. If he could get his front paws to the top of the fence, he could pull himself over. Eight foot? No problem. Chain link, wooden, double sided wooded, didn't matter.
He once jumped (out) through the screen of a second story window because he didn't want to stay home.
And when I stayed out to long (I was in my twenties and a partier) he would crap and piss in the bath tub or shower. "That's a good boy "son".
Oh ! And the hurt dog going to the emergency room was cool too!
Agreed. I didn't think my post would lead into all the crud about health care. I was only joking but forgot about how some people will turn anything into something political. Guess you got to watch what you say even on a feel good story.
I'm surprise that the staff didn't bandage him up at least. Maybe if they gave him some gauze he could have done it himself :-)
LOL, she would have shot him if she had seen him, fortunatey she was too busy staring at Russia from her house hoping to see a real man instead of that drag queen she is married to.
Not many know yet that Oslama is a Bi-sexual.......well done! My guess is that fact will only come out after he is out of office, after he has ruined America. Nice dog story though.
Cute, someone is more of a man then you will ever be so you attack that which makes you feel inferior. it's a school night kiddos, back to 6th grade tomorrow!
This story had me choked up. I know that I love my dog. She is part chow and part german shepard and as smart as a whip but sometimes a bit head strong. She knows where the line is drawn and just puts a toe over it. I believe she has something else in her but she is such a sweetie. My daughter will take her from us shortly and I just wished that I had gotten one of her sisters for me. :(
Well as soon as my son gets his cats it maybe be off to the dog pound for me to find a replacement for her.
As I live in Farmington, I will tell you what the story did not. The dog had jumped a fence and had been missing for a couple of days. The owner of the dog works at the hospital that he was found walking into. The dog is just fine and back with its owner. The owner was not charged with anything, why would they be?
They aren't telling you the whole story.. when he ambled in he said, "I'm looking for the man that shot my paw... " Get it.. Pa.... he got confused and thought the hospital was a saloon...
As an owner of 3 labradors and and english bulldog, this story made me laugh so much. God has blessed us with our 4 legged friends, now lets reach out to our 2 legged friends our fellow people guys.
Yeh! One plus point for "dog" and "0" for mankind. Humans need animals, yet they can be so mistreated by the ones that they should be able to count on.
Well, yeah, but guess what? ICE checked on this dog and it happens to be an illegal alien. I don't care how much more sense, how hard working they are, an illegal alien is an illegal alien and they all should be banished from this country until the day they die.
The poor dog probally had to sit 8 hours before he was seen and his owner must pay for the MRI they did on his paws.Thats why we need a health plan as soon as possible.
There wont be an MRI machine in your local care facility if obamacare ever becomes law, and the one working MRI Machine that is located in a city 80 miles away from your town will have a line 8 months long ahead of you if you ever actually need one.
EVERY country in the world that has a plan similar to obamas has folks that have to wait MONTHS for many criticle care situations (Cancer, heart diseases, etc.) or any sort of upgraded care for health problems other than a minor injury.
SHEESE! Eight hours in a waiting room is NOTHING compared to what they must endure...Immediate care... is what we have now.
But at least with obamacare, the gubmit will take care of you, so you wont have to... From cradle to grave, the gubmit will hold your hand and pay for everything so you wont have to worry about anything except paying your taxes that is.
Who do you think is going to pay that bill?
It will NOT be the rich, but You, your children, your grandchildren, your great grandchildren and every generation that follows will pay!
The rich will instead go where they can get care immidiate care, because they can afford to. The rich will start getting care in whatever country is left that is democratic instead of communist... and/or socialist!
The poor dog probally sat 8hours before he was seen and the owner got the bill for a MRI on his Paws. Thats why we need to pass the Health Plan as soon as possible.
I just wonder if they charged the owners parents for admin charges for entering the hospital and wanting help..
Actually they didn't tell the whole story... He didn't have his insurance co-pay. :-)
No wonder they called the law to come get the dog...
Under ObamaCare, the dog would have been turned away due to shortage of staff, and it would be cheaper to euthanize him. Pain killers? Too expensive.
Instead of being ignored and put back on the street due to no money and insurance, under our wonderful present excuse for a health care "system" (joke)!
He probably received better care then the patients. Maybe this shepherd can ramp up the health-care/Obama care debate!
Washington politicians just keep adding more and more to the rights in this country. Wonder if this was a politicians dog. That will add at least another 200 to 500 pages to our health care reform. After all the government has to take care of everyone and everything in our lives, even the dogs know that now. Wow how low can we go.
I love this story, it is a happy-feel-good story! I hope the owner takes better care of the dog.
It never ceases to amaze me just how smart animals are!!
On the upside, yaaay! for the dog. Do-gooders in ER make right choices...everything ends well. On the downside, politicians ask owner to use dog's personal experience as a testimonial to why current health-care legislation should be pushed through.
Sarcasticus...love the name! Rofl.
Oh, yeah, how cute the whole thing but let's get real for a moment: Did the ER staff make sure that dog is not an illegal alien?
I'm sick and tired of having my tax money spent on illegal aliens be they people, pets, or extra terrestial beings.
I hope ICE will get a hold of that dog and make sure his papers are in order.
Clever pooch!
Really clever!

Actually, if he was THAT smart he would have gone to the vet instead. :)
Fun fact:
Did you know dogs can have wet dreams?
I don't mean dreaming they're swimming.
I never knew it until I witnessed it. It was gross, but enlightening as well.
To me that indicates an ability to "think".

Our extra huge German Shephard loved to sit in front of me panting in my face. I'd tell her, "quit breathing!" and she'd hold her breath! I much prefer the company of cats, but who can help but love a dog that'd do that just to stop annoying me?
My dog used to know the difference between "speak" and "speak quiet". He would sorta mouth an arf, with very little sound, when directed.
It was hysterical!
The stories of this dog's 11 years...........well, maybe I'll write that book.
CH- I tell my Anatolian to use her inside voice and she does. Smart cookie!
Clint Horace you are a sick puppy! What does a hurt dog have to do with a wet dream? Are you dreaming that you are a dog? Wake up dummy! And get your mind out of the gutter. I have one question bluedreamcatcher:
Regardless of what you THINK my intentions were for posting that tidbit, did you know, or do you think it is at least an interesting observation?

Define fast. Obviously not fast enough if your dad ran a tab at the vet's.
bluedream - it had as much to do with hurt dog as another dog jumping into some strangers car.

This is finally something to smile about. Nice story.
That has to be the cutest story I've ever read! I'm a dog person so it really touched my heart!
His instinct was dead on, wouldn't you say?
Wow! I'm impressed.
Smart dog, I was actually hoping that this discussion would avoid political finger pointing. Buy I guess I can't have my cake and eat it too
Agreed. I didn't think my post would lead into all the crud about health care. I was only joking but forgot about how some people will turn anything into something political. Guess you got to watch what you say even on a feel good story.

I'm glad his "ruff" day turned out well.
LOL. No puns please. My sister "kills" me with those.
So did someone ever help the poor dog?
nancy pelosi limped into an er?
Don't kid yourself. What do think her chauffeur is for?
I knew healthcare in this country was going to the dogs.
Turns out the dog was shot by Sarah Palin from a helicopter.
I guess you just had to go there! Stop taking the enjoyment out of a good story with political crap. Must you ruin everything?
Why didn't reply to the forth post with your whiney comment jerk.
LOL, she would have shot him if she had seen him, fortunatey she was too busy staring at Russia from her house hoping to see a real man instead of that drag queen she is married to.
And you must have a crush on the bisexual Obama.
Shame on you. To make such an informed opinion you had to have been with both. Didn't your mother teach you about the names for people like that?

And best of all the dog's HMO covered him.
Dear Friends:
Was the owner charged? Was there a possibility the dog had been at the scene of a crime?
Um. Did you read the article? It looked like another dog had attacked it.
As I live in Farmington, I will tell you what the story did not. The dog had jumped a fence and had been missing for a couple of days. It looks like the dog has more sense than most people. He didn't make a fuss, complain about the pain or even gripe about having to wait his turn.
Well, yeah, but guess what? ICE checked on this dog and it happens to be an illegal alien. I don't care how much more sense, how hard working they are, an illegal alien is an illegal alien and they all should be banished from this country until the day they die.

Wait a minute. He was an "alien" - the health care should have been free.
No. He had a CAT scan. *erf*
