Kraft Foods says it will cut the salt in its products sold in North America by an average of 10 percent over the next two years as food makers try to appeal to health-conscious consumers.
Kraft to cut salt in its North American foods

Ok, so they will cut the salt and raise the price because it will be "healthy" now and "healthy" is ALWAYS more expensive!! Oh joy!!
Don't fall for this fabrication that salt has anything to do with blood pressure. It doesn't.

SALT AND BLOOD PRESSURE:
CONVENTIONAL WISDOM RECONSIDERED
The “salt hypothesis” is that higher levels of salt in the diet lead to higher levels of blood pressure, increasing the risk of cardiovascular disease. Intersalt, a crosssectional study of salt levels and blood pressures in 52 populations, is often cited to support the salt hypothesis, but the data are somewhat contradictory. Four of the populations (Kenya, Papua, and two Indian tribes in Brazil) do have low levels of salt and blood pressure.
Across the other 48 populations, however, blood pressures go down as salt levels go up—contradicting the hypothesis.
Experimental evidence suggests that the effect of a large reduction in salt intake on blood pressure is modest, and health consequences remain to be determined. Funding agencies and medical journals have taken a stronger position favoring the salt hypothesis than is warranted, raising questions about the interaction between the policy process and science. ...
This is a comfort for me. I am sulfite intolerant and the presence of iodized salt in foods with preservatives only serves to aggravate my reaction.
Keep up the good work, Kraft!
FYI Kayci, it's been known for a great deal of time that the effects on blood pressure with salt intake may or may not be true. The point behind reduction in sodium is that it reduces risk of cardiovascular disease in those that have high blood pressure. This is proven and is good for the millions out there who have undiagnosed high BP.
Anyways, what is your issue with eating more healthy? You have an aversion to other people maintaining a good diet??
10% over two years? Considering the starting point, that is too little and takes too long. Once I started reading labels on products ( I had hypertension), I saw how extreme the added sodium was. I started avoiding salad dressings or using as tiny an amount as possible, and then saw that homemade was easy, cheap and that salt substitutes like lemon juice give a similar "kick" in flavor. Now, years later, I can't believe I ever use to eat some of the stuff I did, because it tastes burningly salty. It only took a few months for me to notice that the natural flavor of food was more delicate and nuanced than I realized. At first it seemed like a pain, and then, I realized it was an advantage. All of my children recognize the importance of reading sodium labels, and they have frequently commented on how excessively salty their friends' cooking tastes, and especially fast food. I think that the food companies who do decide to do this might want to organize some kind of across the board 10% reduction every six months. If all the food manufacturers did this simultaneously, no one would likely notice the reduction.
Wow, I'm underwhelmed. Like the above post from Beth states - 10% over two years? Get Real, Kraft. Get rid of most of the crap that you sell now and maybe I'll consider buying some of your 'healthy' food in the future.
Kraft=Healthy Food? I don't think so......
I have been writing the CEOs of Kraft and other food processors for years asking why they are killing off their customers by loading their products with salt. I pointed that a dead customer is no longer a customer.
As many as 30 million Americans have high blood pressure and do not know they have it. Excess salt increases BP. High blood pressure leads to health problems that cause premature death.
I have asked others why they lowered the fat content in some products then sometimes doubled the salt content. The responses were often silly.
These companies are being foreced to reduce salt content inthe version of their products they sell in Europe. Only in the USA have they continued to help their customers die early deaths.
Of course, there is an up side to excessive salt in foods. It helps to kill off Americans before they can draw their Social Secuity. Maybe these companies feel it is their duty to help keep America solvent by loading us down with salt!
I guess some change is better than no change, but I wouldn't eat most of the stuff Kraft produces anyway. Cutting the salt a little doesn't make up for all of the other chemicals in their products.
Salt is one of those things that you'll hate once you stop eating it for a few weeks. I care barely swallow most resturant foods now.
They should have Food Conglomerates SEVERELY REDUCE if not ELIMINATE to Negligible levels the salt content of ALL FOODS --- Then they WONDER WHY a third of Americans have hyper tension? I Wonder what THAT does to Health Care Costs??!!!! A STIFF TAX on Sodium Chloride(Including MSG,Sodium Nitrate, & Rock Salt) would IMPROVE the Health of Americans & Spare the Environment.
10% ?
They could reduce it 50 % and create a healthier and more palatable product line.
The reduced salt will likely be replaced with a salty flavored chemical.
haha....truer words have never been spoken.
how bout 10 % right now **rolleyes* geeeeez
For those investing in Kraft! SELL! SELL! SELL! Every product that has dropped salt SUCKS! Ever try the low salt V8 drink? Yuk!
