A new study gives reassuring news about the safety of Fosamax and Reclast, bone-building drugs taken by millions of American women. It found that long-term use does not significantly raise the risk of a rare type of fracture near the hip.

I would offer that fosomax proved to be an extremely dangerous drug for me, and others I have met since I experienced my problems. Fosomax was first prescribed for me in 1995; I took the daily dose for ten years...I followed dosing instructions; first pill of the day, only standing or sitting for one half hour (usually much more). July, 2005, sud denly three root canals...the dentist reported to me on the day of his work, that on the previous day he had attended a seminar wherein it was disclosed fosomax caused jaw bone decay (now known as dead jaw bone disease), the need for unexpected root canals. Over the succeeding three months I experienced increased acid reflux. On September 21,2005, I would begin an emergency trip to intensive care attributed to the destruction of my esophagus...I would be in ICU for nearly four months, two hospitals, multiple surgeries...my esophagus was removed, my stomach restructured and reduced by two-thirds. I would learn a whole new way of swallowing over the time since, many foods excluded from my diet. As a result of the tube feeding directly into the small intestine, and the scarring, all muscle was lost in my lower belly, and I developed a large inoperable hernia. The mental depression over loss of will to interact with the outside world has crippled me for four years. Just recently I have developed the courage to re-establish my physical stamina and balance...hopefully to a new beginning. I neglected to mention earlier this year I lost my balance, fell, not hard on my rib cage...came up with four broken ribs, numbers 6,7,8,9. If the participants in this posting saw ABC News reporting on fosomax, and the hundred plus postings from viewers, they are aware not only of the many and easy breaks of femor and other bones, but also of the problems fosomax sources to jaw bones, and teeth, and the esophagus, to include esophagael cancer. I hope the FDA, and other entities will own up to the not so beneficial politicized reports they publish. Thank you for this opportunity to tell my story re; fosomax.
I am disapointed; I have not received the email you promised to send for verification. I think my experiences with fosomax should be part of the discussion, and POSTED!
I'm not reassured by your article. I've read other news articles that expressed a contrary opinion and they had a better commentary to support their arguments against these drugs.
