Nine teens have been charged in the "unrelenting" bullying of a teenage girl from Ireland who killed herself after being raped and enduring months of torment by classmates in person and online, a prosecutor said Monday.

I hope the girl's parents sue the sh*t out of the school and win BIG MONEY! School officials and teachers have always overlooked bullying and 'clique' behavior. The teachers are afraid they'll hurt someone's feelings or offend some big shot parents. The way teens and pre teens are starting to behave is outrageous and needs to be stopped NOW. Parents won't do it. Teachers won't do it. So I suggest the government step in and put reform schools back into place and put these bullies in them and if they continue to behave badly then go on and put them in prison. Build more prisons while you're at it because, I guarantee you, they're going to be needed! Also drop the age of adults to 13. A child knows what he/she's doing at 13. Charge them as adults, let a few of them be sentenced as adults and you'll see how quickly 13 year olds start behaving better!
Just on one of your points, it's science that the mind of a child at that age is not fully developed; that's why they aren't legally considered adults. The exception for their being charged as adults is violent crimes. However, it still doesn't mean their minds and thought processes work as adults' do.
What these kids did is horrible and if the school knew about it and it was happening on school grounds, I'd like to know what was being done about it that no adults involved were charged. My son starts school next year, and I am not looking forward having him deal with these kinds of kids.
The lawless behavior of these bullies is reprehensible and needs to be punished to the full extent of the law including their parents and the school board. Any failure to find significaant lack of responsibility and impose punishment will simply be seen as turning a blind eye on the guilty. Parents need to be held responsible and accountable for their children and our society should not be expected to simply tolerate devious, uncontrolled or unacceptable behavior by the children of parents who do not care about the rights of others.
How does a 15 year old get raped and then take her own life..sorry but that's called murder. Parents should be charged.
I could not agree with "Richard in Florida" more! This will not stop until parents are made totally accountable for their children's actions. I say hit 'em where it hurts and impose large fines on parents who's children bully others and jail the children. That's right. PUT THEM IN JAIL! Richard says " our society should not be expected to simply tolerate devious, uncontrolled or unacceptable behavior by the children of parents who do not care about the rights of others." I say make them care by making them pay for what their children have done.
I'd say it depends on how much the parents of the bullies knew and what they were doing about it. Parents are not in the presence of their children 24/7; did they know what was going on? The school certainly knew, but did the school involve the bullie's parents? However, if the parents knew the extent of the bullying and did nothing, then throw away the key, as they shouldn't be parents anyway.
What this poor girl went through is dispicable. I hope these kids are treated like they were very soon.
TAt the root of all this evil are the parents who fail to teach and PRACTICE the basic rules of behavior such as compassion, love and tolerance, as well as pass it on to our children. We are so concerned with our jobs and our own personal hobbies and other things that we overlook the atrocious things that our children are capable of. If there was more communication and some sense of respect then possibly, things would begin to turn around. We are just having kids to have them, and we are not raising productive, furture members of this country and planet. I continue pray for parents to receive the wisdom required to realize what kind of people we are bringing into this world.
This is most distressing! How many others have chosen death over life because of a broken heart that faced endless harassing? I too thought of suicide when junior high age because I was continually bullied. At one time, students tore my dress unmercifully and I had to run to the Home Economics Class to sew it. I too was mocked and stalked. I followed home from school and some beat me. No one cared. Not one teacher nor did the administration when my mother approached them. One teacher even joined in.
This was all due to the fact I had an overbite and therefore dubbed as worthless. I was rejected in school and in the church. However, church attendees were not as cruel. I express my heart regarding all this in my book Cliques in the Church and it can be read without cost at my webpage Val's Lee's Weblog.
Nasty little snots. I wonder how many of them dared to approach Phoebe one-on-one to torment her? Seems to me this kind of behavior almost always needs clique/mob mentality to support it.
