A significant number of the elderly - more than one in four - will eventually need someone to make end-of-life decisions about their medical care, a new study suggests.
1 in 4 will need health decisions made for them

I want to go in a violently (sexual) manner, but not if I'm incarcerated at the time. Fair enough? Oh, and if that option isn't on the up and up (no punny stuff), I don't want a dime spent on anything that will cost more than a dollar. I believe that people are meant to go when their time comes, and, just in case there is a life after death, I don't want to mess up the universal schedule by being late for the next life (unless I'm supposed to come back as a suicide bomber)
Ok, taking that plan to my lawyer in the morning.
Words to live by.
Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!
I always liked being up front when it comes to the end
The government will have to set up panels...HA HA
and call them life panels........... yea that’s the ticket LOL
The government mandated banks give loans to those that couldn't afford home loans...look what that's done to us...and the world. Social justice is working for a living and getting what you work for not giving it to someone that doesn't even care...
mdphknmrk
May your final wishes come true with Nancy Pelosi. Forgive me, I really don't want you to commit suicide.
Death panels are real, but they have nothing to do with end of life counseling...If you tie the "Best Practices" provision which is a panels decision on a cost/benefit analysis and Pay for outcomes instead of Fee for service with a little pinch of HHS's Katherine Sebillius and her "Essential Health-care" package which is determined by a new panel to determine what should be covered and thereby reimbursed by insurance companies
what you end up with is doctors and hospital looking at an end of life patient, with multiple health problems and a Zero prognosis of every sky diving again, saying the less we do the less the hit to our bottom line instead of the more we do the more money we make
But it really doesn't matter because this whole bag-o-crap is going to implode long before any of us face that time of life
(Lol to Nancy-Pants) As far as the bank thing went, the bank thing was supposed to help poor people get into their own homes. They were already paying rent, which cost them more than a home loan after, and even before factoring the tax credits. It was the people who already had homes, trading up and refinancing that became the largest part of the issue - the middle to uppers - the economy crashed, and they seemed to be the first to run from their obligations, because they could afford the bankruptcy filings while a lot of the poorer structure is still paying off their homes - their jobs at convenience stores and restaurants are still here, though the restaurant end suffered still (tips). As far as the complaining goes, I'm educated enough to know that it was the Republican mentality which tended to exploit such a potentially positive avenue.
Oh I love the Dems....We aren't gonna have death panels ...sure...now onto the next LIE
So George, where in this article did you read the the government is going to have death panels. You and Sarah would make a good combo, you are both idiots.
Verno
It nice to see you have a grasp of the English language. You must have gotten educated while you were in prison.
There isn't the panel of "end of life counselors" in the bill, but it does set up a panel to make decisions on how much, and what medicare pays for. I won't call that a death panel. I will call that the panel to screw the seniors. How shameful for the democrats to cut the spending on the health of our seniors, the people who need it the most, after they paid into it for the last 40+ years, and divert that money to bums and freeloaders. I have to clarify. It isn't fair to have been born with a medical condition which requires yearly medical expenses. I have friends with children born in this manner. They are far from rich. But their children receive the best medical attention in the world. But that is life, and life isn't fair. Some of us were born rich, and others poor. It is the capitalist, free market system that allows the poor to rise up and become rich. And it is an absolute crime to rob our seniors of the medicare they paid into (or had confiscated from them), to give to someone who may be perfectly healthy, but needs a hand out to buy private insurance.
Please tell me where you read anywhere in the bill about cutting health care for the seniors. Just give me a page and paragraph please. I am on Medicare and won't see any changes to my health care. So please enlighten me.
They are being obtuse on purpose to try to fool the folks again.
If you both can read read the Section on Medicare cuts of $500 million which even Obmama acknowledges.
Verno:
Since you're too lazy to do your own research (Typical Liberal):
Government payments to Medicare Advantage – plans run by private insurers that are an alternative to traditional Medicare – would be reduced by $132 billion over 10 years under the health care reform bill. (Those plans now get around 14 percent more per person than traditional Medicare does.)
Medicare payments for home health care would also be reduced by $40 billion over 10 years. And cuts in certain payments to hospitals would raise another $22 billion by 2019.
Headlines of the Liberal Media: "1 in 4 need health decisions made for them"
Headlines of the Conservative Media: "3 out of 4 do NOT need health decisions made for them"
Which ones do you think Obama and his Lemmings read?
Speaking of lemmings, you are really going over the cliffs with the righties.
The insurance companies have their own death panels to deny your meds and treatment, as well as blocking you from going anywhere else for another opinion. Once you die, Big Insurance will charge your family to turn your remains into Soylent Green.
giggle laugh ...that fu u u uny!
Hmmm I'm sure the government will find away to "take over" the decisions for anyone that cant do it for themselves. Why not-they are slowly taking over everything else.
You should check out youtube/disastercapitalism and shocktreatment.com ...lol
Yeh 1 in 4. Tell me brainiac out of the these ....people how many are illegals. For that is the only ones that "Need" health......
Brilliant we have to pay for illegals no. This is definitely against the constitution. What can be done to get the United States back to good instead of in the dumps....
Try 4 of 4 have decisions made for them with Obama Care. Can't wait for the next elections - that is if Obama doesn't appoint himself as king with Pelosi by his side.
When I become an anachronism: a useless, arcane, babbling leftist demagogue -- I hope that they mercifully put me to sleep. Hey, that sounds like a description of the AP!
Since the people running the system are making you die sooner than you normally would have, they(liberals) should determine when you die since they know best...
The first end of life decisions this administration is going to make is allowing the estate tax exclusions to lapse and allow estate taxes to be taken at around $200,000 rather than 2 million. The second is the new health care bill they just passed where we will pay higher taxes for the next 4 years before any additional benefits if ever are allowed to take place. And if you believe this article to begin with I have some swamp land for sale in the mojave desert.
Actually, for the crazy people here, if you don't do the forms, then the decision falls to someone in your family as designated by law. If you never owned up to your mortality like a reflective adult, then there's a chance that some perplexed and timid niece in California will be unable to make a "let him go" decision. If there is no family, then the local office of the State Guardian appoints some young social worker who never met you and probably won't visit you to decide. They uniformly assume that no choice in the past from you means you "want everything done". They choose very aggressive care. I have seen hundreds of 80 year old lonely men/women contracted in a bed, dialyzed 3x/week, on a ventilator, being pumped full of antibiotics and cardiac meds for months, even years, before their bedsores or some other complication of excessive care finally took them. The suffering is unbelievable. The outcome is always the same. The cost is always born by Medicare (i.e. working people), and frankly there are doctors who specialize in this care who do very well by it. (It is much quicker to see an unresponsive mechanically ventilated patient than to explore the aches and pains of a walking talking person, but the collectable amount is the same.) I think it should be a condition of getting your medicare card, or medicaid, that you must state what you want in these situations. I think most people would choose not to be tortured like that in a hopeless situation, and the savings in tax dollars would be enormous. As for the ten idiots writing the notes above, I will be glad to collect $50 per day from medicare to keep each of you alive for 2 or 3 years in the above condition. At least with you people in the beds, I will have no remorse.
you must be pretty young and still immortal. i have paid into medicare for many years and it is my right to withdrawn from it whenever i need it. if i decide that i don't want o make any end-of-life decisions then that is my right and not yours or anyone Else's to tell me i have to do it. The medicare system needs to be changed but don't change it for those of us that have paid for it and need it now. fix it so you can't have it and that will solve the problem over time. It's easy to sit there in your youth and talk about what the elderly should do but you haven't been elderly and made to depend on a piece of krqppy liberal laws from the 60's LBJ. Your day will come. Enjoy...
Any doctor who decides to counsel me on end of life care better:
A: Be older than me
B: Have had a near death experience themselves
Otherwise, shut the hell up and do what I pay you to do.
Keep me alive and a thorn in my family's side.
it is funny how Liberals can take such nice words and totally corrupt them. me making end-of-life decisions for myself is one thing letting the government decide my end-of-life options is something else. while they day that the death panels are just to advise me we all know that nothing the government says is what it really is. The government says in an executive order that no funds will be used for abortions supposedly overriding the law in the health care bill. well anyone knows that and executive order can't override a law. besides another liberal president or even the sitting one can reverse the order anytime.
A sign of things past, "Veteran Affairs" and things to come "Obama Care" are summed up in this statement....
They had pushed to complete the study because of the national debate, but it took time to get it published, said the study's leader, Dr. Maria Silveira. She teaches at the University of Michigan and does research for Veterans Affairs.
The decision of life or death should life be sustainable by using medical devices to prolong life should be addressed in a living will as suggested in the article.
However, the bigger issue is who makes the determination about sustaining life when treatment for the elderly based upon a condition that would lengthen life, but would not be as significant for an 80 year old as it would be for a 60 year old, for instance a heart transplant. When the patient decides they want the treatment, who decides if it will be approved? Does the insurance company, the doctor or Health and Human Services?
I had an E.R. Nurse tell me living wills are often ignored that doctors in Portsmouth's hospitals will do everything they can to save your life. I was a heart patient having been stented after an " alledged heart attack" I was told I'd been near death. Even today it was bullhockey!!!
I just find it funny that most of the people who posted are terrified that some govt. dude will get between them and their doctor, but when asked, they don't even want to talk to their doctor! So why are they mad at someone blocking something they don't want to do? ha~ha~!
I see my doctor(s) several times a year, plus dentists, eye doctors, etc., and I have changed them at MY WILL whenever I felt the need or desire. Govt. has never stood in my way - it's always the insurance company that tries to deny me treatment.
everthing that we said oboma ,reid and pelosi wanted to get in this healthcare bill, includeing how people should handle their deaths.are comeing true.almost every day another lie is being found. what is happening people. we are letting the left takr god out of everything ;and your crazy if you dont think there going to get between you and your doctors .and its just a matter of time before we are takeing care of all illegal alliens and how dare our courts let these devil worshiping church of the left go to this parents funeral burruing there son who was killed in the war. you can bet if that was the pres. or even a cop ,thse people would not have let no where around this ceremony.
Three out of four will also have their life shortened by the death squads!
NO! Obama does not decide this! WE the people decide this! NO to OBAMACARE!
nothing about terrified,.. Extremist Obama wants to be on TV everyday, Meida everyday,.. we have had enough of this egoistic person,.. Clearly, this man is dividing America. Recall this idiot!
