Hope he doesn't have severe retardation problems, for his sake and his parent's sake. The doctors involved won't have to live with the consequences......
What? Without the experimental treatment by socialist doctors, the kid wouldn't be alive at all! I'm sure the parents want the baby to live regardless of it's mental capacity. No parent wants their child to die. I applaud the doctors for their bravery (and for the save) and the parents for allowing it when all hope seemed lost. Bravo!
Apparently medical experimentation is illegal. Shall we regress to leeches and bleeding to avoid the risks to mice and people?
Xenon is a noble gas and is unreactive at standard conditions. Article isn't very specific, which limits the quality of any commentary on the efficacy of the technique.
Just a guess, but I bet the parents had to sign some sort of document permitting this. It sounds like it was either this or death for the baby. If I was in that situation, I would probably be willing to try something that might save my baby over just watching him die.
If faced with this situation...my child dying or trying an experimental gas/drug whatever I think I would at least try it. I hope for the child's sake it worked for the long term as well as the short term. Medical treatments can't evolve if we don't try new things. (not that Dr's should be given free reign) That little guy will be in my prayers!

Fodder for future medical care....
