Perhaps they should legalize prostitution and make sex workers get a license to practice. To keep the license they would have to get tested for STDs on a regular basis. Those caught prostituting without a license should get jail time and those caught working with a documented, untreated STD should be prosecuted for attempted murder. They should also provide free birth control for sex workers.
Prostitution is legal in all but two counties in NV. I do see legalization as a alternative way of controlling STDs. In the counties where it is legal, the ladies have to get a sheriffs card, which is like a license, and they have to get a vaginal exam every month. I like your idea, RayvenA.
nothing about this article surprises me. this country should be ashamed that we have the highest rates of STD in the developed world. maybe if the right-wingers would get their heads out of their asses (abstinence may be an answer, but it isn't the answer). in my area they run the school boards or they dominate them with fears about their children being educated with knowledge about sex because it makes them feel uncomfortable (i guess it is easier to deal with pregnancy, std and aids). They should be ashamed of themselves as parents and public officials. European countries have far fewer teenage or unplanned pregnancies and stds...period. Obviously we are doing something wrong. Withholding information doesn't lead to morality, and being educated about sex doesn't make you sex crazed, it simply allows you to make educated decisions and understand the consequences of those decisions. Withholding sex ed is one of the most common and dangerous forms of neglect in this country. I am once again disgusted by another area of our country being dominated by uneducated zealots that live in a fantasy world.
liberal-bias, where on earth did you get right wingers out of this, I am a repub, and I think that there needs to be more education, especially on condom use!!! I am not withholding information from my children, nor should any other responsible parent. I for one resent you calling me an uneducated zealot strictly based upon the knowledge that I am a repub, you on the other hand may indeed be teaching your children a form of bigotry.
