I agree Lilith. I wonder, as the return to 'fundamentalism' for lack of a better word, grows within our country, if it spurs the distrust toward single women... It seems to have gotten worse lately, not better. But that is only from my own little corner of the world.
Agreed, Dowser. I think societies are just afraid of women being free to choose what to do with their lives and that's where this might be coming from.
What is an SOB is all these really great Ladies....none of which anyone looking can ever find....that are out there to be around and appreciated.
And as some say....the single Ladies are laughing all the way to the (orgasm) bank......with no more strings attached than if a single man were doing the same.
Although gender roles are really "in-flux" right now as Ladies continue to enjoy increased economic and personal freedom.....it is interesting to see how some outdated stereotypes continue to persist. The one that is the point of this discussion is a good one to consider....
One I know all too well myself is how the entire tax system is "rigged" so married-with-children get all the "good deductions" while singles get stuck with the consolation prize..paying for everyone who is not single. This one hits all singles equally and is an "issue" that probably should be redressed....but probably never will be as more married people vote than do single people......
I would personally hope some of the great single Ladies I know at some point have kids...as the world needs MORE, not less of you...but of course that's up to you'all, and I can't do a thing to help myself.....
This is nuts. Women are the best thing we have. They're sensitive, understanding, easy to talk to and make the best friends. Talk about loyalty and good advice. Sheesh, I don't get it.
When I was single, I didn't feel welcome at my home church. Now that I'm married, I'm welcome with open arms. What happened? I'm still me-- I'm the same person I was before, but my 'marital status' has changed. That isn't the way it is supposed to be, but it is. I think that, as so many people in our country turn toward fundamentalism, women are relegated to more of a second class citizenship, and single women are considered to be of lower value.
I will never forget-- years ago, a military plane crashed into a hotel not far from the Indianapolis Airport, killing several workers and patrons in the building. The military paid reparations, (is that the right word?), to the families of those that were killed. I don't remember the exact figures, but, the family of an unmarried man, who worked as a maintenance guy, was awarded about $50,000, while the family of an unmarried woman, who worked as a maid, was awarded $30,000... That's just not right. How can she be of less 'value', just because she is single?
This is true. People and society still has a problem with women being single as a lifestyle choice.

I think so, too-- somehow, it seems threaten people... I wonder why?
I think being single is not a mark of shame.
