The Food and Drug Administration is asking doctors to keep an eye out for misleading drug advertisements as part of the agency's latest effort to police the pharmaceutical industry's multibillion-dollar marketing machine.
FDA urges docs to report misleading drug ads

There should not be any marketing of drugs, on TV or in any ads. The Doctor's are in the drug companies pockets, as are our lawmakers. We all know the saying: the fox watching the henhouse. I am so sick of hearing all the drug commercials. Do you ever really listen to those things? I laugh when I hear the list of side effects. The Doctor's should prescribe them if you absolutely need it, not because you saw it on TV and think you need it. The drug companies inflate the price of their drugs way too much. They are making a killing off our ailments. Multi billions (with a "b"!) of dollars in ads. That money could go to research cures/ drugs for cancer and other serious diseases!
DRinNC, Thank you, you took the words right out of my mouth. I also believe that ads increase the price of the drug. Besides, most people really don't need drugs.
Exactly DRinNC. Thank you. Other countries don't let the drug companies advertise, why should we let them do it here? It should be up to a doctor and the patient, not a marketing campaign, to decide what drug you need.
Hey,
Anybody see those ads on TV where the sweet, knowledgable sounding lady rants off side effects like they were nothing? Dry mouth, constipation, diarhea, nausea, colds, headaches, high blood pressure, glaucoma, elevated blood sugar, elevated cholesterol, death. Death will end all other complaints!
And the 2 out of 3 anti-depressants that allegedly don't work according to the ad so the solution is to add another drug that can cause "thoughts of suicide" and "permanent damage" and again, "death". The FDA and the FCC are a joke at present.
What?! Greedy poison monger Big Pharm needs oversight?! Shocking news.
How can you have a discussion about this topic. Anyone knows that marketing adds to the cost of any item being marketed. So why Why WHY do Drug companies, Insurance Commpanies, Credit card companies, bombard us nightly with thier sales pitches! TV time ain't cheap! Your doctor is the only one who should advertise for the drug he perscribes. No need to advertise drugs as they can only be aquired after seeing a doctor.( helps keep insurance high too because now you have a bunch of nuts running to their doctors for pharms they saw on TV!) No need to advertise Credit Cards as almost anyone can get one anywhere. NO need to advertise on TV for something that is required by Law (Auto insurance). End the advertisements for perscription drugs, Car insurance and Banking prices will drop. Or they will just post higher profits cause they won't be spending on advertisements.
They should have been doing this in the 90s, when a drug maker was distributing promotional videos to the offices, saying Xanax was non-addictive!
Isn't this the job of the FDA themselves? and why would docs rat out the drug makers.. they got their d*cks in ea. other's rectums.. well you know what I mean
Until the FDA gets more funding, they don't have the time or money to do this, unfortunately.
If they really want to make it interesting perhaps they should offer the reporting Doctor 10% of all the fines levied against the Drug manufacturer instead of making it anonymous.........
Big Pharma will simply stop dropping off free samples of drugs, free lunches for the staff and free office supplies to any Doctor's office that reports them. You can bet the Doctor will not be invited to attend any more manufacturer sponsored free "conferences" in Aruba with his family either.
The recent radio and TV ads selling Quietus as a cure for Tinnitus should be halted immediately. I have had tinnitus for more than 40 years and it is the leading ailment of returning soldiers from Iraq and Afghanistan. It is an horrendous ailment and there is no known cure for tinnitus. Praying on desperate people with false remedies is felonious.
direct to consumer adds for prescirtion drugs should be banned as were cigarette ads in the interest of public safety
