I found the article to be true, I have been testing my depressed patients dor vitamin D deficicency, most of the are low in vit. D
Hmmn.. well maybe older people don't get enough sunshine. A lot of them can't take the sun like when they are younger and a lot of medications have the caveat of avoiding sun exposure. Sunshine is a great source of vitamin D. Case in point, a former classmates mother in her 80's, who used to vacation in FL every year, and still wears the same 2 piece bright yellow bikin she was wearing 50 yrs ago, is still full of vim and vigor. She's also a big coffee drinker and something of a drunk...
"Before any strategies to boost vitamin D can be adopted they must be tested in larger and more rigorously designed trials?" HUH? This is not new science... Every time a large group of subjects is tested for vitamin D levels, they come up 50 to 95 percent deficient. What are they waiting for? Vitamin D is not going to kill anyone, or even make them ill.
Of course, we're not talking about a profitable new drug therapy. Vitamin D is free.
I think thus has a huge element of truth to it. With or without scientific research, and only going by my own experience, I'm taking Vitamin D for other things and my health has improved overall.
My husband used to swear by it, so I started taking it on his advice. It's been written that vitamin D is good for our bones, also. It certainly does not seem to be hurting anything, and I feel much better, arthritis knee and a foot with Psoriasis-Arthritis which I never heard of until six months ago!
There are many things that can attribute to depression and make peoples depression worse. Diet, exercise, sleep patterns. Without fixing these small problems, how can anyone overcome depression? I always recommend this supplement to friends as it has helped a lot of people: http://naturaldepressionfighter.com
