Vaughn Foods bought its lettuce from California-based Andrew Smith Co., a supply company which shipped the lettuce after purchasing it from the Arizona farm.
Arizona farm -
I suspect the lettuce was tainted by migrant workers who don't LAVARSE SUS MANOS (wash their hands) after taking a dump.
It can also be caused from wild animals. I remember a bad e.coli outbreak on either spinach or lettuce that was caused by feral hogs. Piss and crap. Depending on the irrigation system, the waste can get into that, which is then fed into the soil where the crops become contaminated.
read the artical they don't know where the e.coli came from since it went from the farm to the shed to the wholesaler to the retailer it could have happened at the salad bar, wait for the facts to come out before you file your lawsuit
You people are not seeing the point here, it is easier to contaminate corporate farms then to get an individual farmer to poison his own food.
It is the controlling agencies of the government that puts these controls on the corporate farms where they have processes in place to manufacture these outbreaks.
Get away from having someone else grow your food. Grow your own foods. You can do container farming in a window box or on a driveway Ilse or sidewalk shoulder. You do not need a lot of space to grow food yourself.
The breakout issue of pathogens lie with the controlling agencies.
All these outbreaks are is a plan to get EVERY person to cry for more FDA/CDC ect... CONTROL of our food supply.

The problem with this is that you automatically think that this is possible for everyone. It isn't. My family DOESN'T have the capacity to have a window box (because the way the building was built). There is also no room inside the house to even have a large plant. We do have an area where we can plant, BUT then they would be stolen because it is out in the open (we already had people stealing roses from our 2 small rose bushes).
Also, you have to think how many plants are needed to feed a family. The people I live with planted at one time 10 tomato plants and 10 green pepper plants in their garden. That was enough to feed 3 people for a few months until winter.
And here is another thing: not all plants are going to make it/grow. Last year, we lost the entire garden: over 20 tomato plants, 10 green pepper plants, 4 yellow squash plants, 4 winter squash plants, and 11 strawberry plants (I won't go into the flowers) due to rain. We didn't get a single fruit/vegetable. Because of that, we had to rely (and still do for now) at getting our food from the supermarket. And before you mention farmer's markets: Yes, there is one nearby and No, we can't go to it. It is only opened 1 day a week, during a weekday, and I work. The people I live with are elderly and can't get around, either.
So what you are saying is you want codex alimentarius food? If you can not produce anything for yourself you are a perfect candidate for the MONSANTO mentality. I guess then we will be seeing a lot more of these outbreaks because of the people who are dependent on the crap produced by corporate/slave farmers.
Try joying a co-op or rent a plot of land or pay someone to grow a few things for you. Do not be a sheeple.
If you do not try to do for yourself you are part of the problem. Be the solution, do more yourself.
Sorry, but my family lives in poverty and where they live there is NOWHERE to grow. It's called the city, one where our water is heavily polluted as is our air and land (our county got an F by the EPA) thanks to illegal dumping during the early and mid 1900's from chemical, manufacturing, etc. plants. Besides, even if there was a place to grow there, someone would steal or destroy it like they to anyone's property, private or public.
I've tried it before, growing flowers in a backyard in another bad neighborhood. People jumped our fence and STOLE my flowers (stole the pots and everything). Never planted again while we lived there. What was the point? Have them stolen again? Even if the thieves were caught, they would be stolen again by someone else. It happens to my family's rose bushes now. We've caught 4 of them, but they don't care. They just flip us off or curse at us. The cops can't stop them from stealing if they are intent on stealing. They are not afraid of being arrested.
As for paying others to grow for us, depends on the people and where they live. Again, NO ONE is growing any fuits/vegetables where my parents live. They don't have a farmer's market near them. Plus, some of these farmer's markets are a joke. I have seen people have produce that came from a store and they just take the sticker off or take them out of the bag, etc. and sell them as 'organic' or 'grown in their own backyard.'
I am sure the contamination came from someone who could not speak english and had no clue where to go to the restroom or wash the hands afterwards. For all of you who want to boycott Arizona...watch out..we will no longer sell you contaminated lettuce. It amazes me how close to 60% of the citizens polled approve of the immigration law yet the only ones you see on the tube are the 35% who disapprove of it. Where has the middle class citizen gone to??
It's amazing to me when a group of kids is trying to do something healthy, like eat a salad at school rather than the craptacular stuff that is being passed off as school lunch, and they end up getting sick anyway. Really?? And the fact that it takes so long to get a recall or shut a contaminated facility down. Why is this?? Maybe because half the board members from the major food corps are in government, both past and present. Makes me sick...and I didn't eat the contaminated romaine.
This is a ploy to push through the new Farm safety regulations developed by Monsanto VP Michael Taylor our new FDA Food Safety Czar, to control small farms. We should be looking at GMO agriculture and how it is destroying our enviornment. How bees are dying, insect and weeds are becoming resistant to pesticides , how GMO crops can not be contained and our contaminating other farms, how if we allow this to continue we will find ourselves in a famine! There should be NO Farm regulations until we remove special interest people from regulating positions in our government!
It takes time to start a garden.......even a small one, or a community based one where people can keep an eye on it that care for it, if there is a small piece of land in a city.....theres your garden. People would have to respect it though, thats way neighborhood watchdogs would come into play....there are many mean people who would steal and destroy out there.....Tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, corn, herbs, carrots....getting used to eat just what you grow is the hardest part, depending on it so to speak......takes alot of dicipline, time and patience with everyone involved .
We must help ourselves more, depend on ourselves more. we trust in ourselves and family more than corporate strangers with all they know is power and greed. We are very spoiled. We have everything....but its not making us happy......we can make ourselves happy without Big Oil and without big corporations more and more.
Keep on providing deflated product quality at inflated prices! It's the American way afterall!

Maybe they have no soap or water to wash which should be provided......?
Pure competition without care of the workers has costs too..... Empathy for your fellow Human Being might be a good start....?

OK....the e. coli outbreak has spread to Tennessee.
Where is the media coverage of the MASSIVE flooding in Tennessee?
The feds can not control the flooding but they can attemp to control you.
