Hello, very interesting article. I have lived in Saudi Arabia for 2 years and leaving my home in England, i find it is more difficult to be active. This is due to many factors, including the heat, few open spaces and infrastructure that you can walk - and get anywhere interesting. However, i also deal with the obesity problem and believe it is not the lack of exercise that is the problem. Look back at history, Saudi women did not go to the gym or jogging through the streets. Compare obesity statistics with the UK and US and you will see similarities despite their schools having physical education classes and after school activities. Our exercise levels have not really changed in the past 30-40 years and do not need to. Our activity levels has certainly reduced because of the success of technology and the food industry, obesity, diabetes, heart disease being the result. My point really is that the media is focusing on getting women freedom but this is hiding the truth. In simple terms, to keep a human healthy we need clean food, air, water, sunlight, stress, rest and happiness. The reason that Saudi Arabia is overweight is because it eats like the western world - FACT. Chemicals and toxins in our food and water is causing the cells of body to function less efficiently and the build up of waste products has become overwhelming for our bodies. We can not clean up the junk quick enough and the result is to simple hide it in fat cells. Toxic buildup and stress of our 'cleaning service' leads to inflammation which results in disease and all the problems you see today. When we wake up to the fact we are not meant to consume chemicals and see the amazing structure and function of the human body, we will understand why we are overweight.
