Insult to injury: More kids hurt by own crutches

I can see why kids have injuries with 'mobility aids' I spent most of my high school years on crutches due to my wonderful lack of coordination. I had so many close calls with those crutches I can't even count how many.
I will say I was never taught how to really use them, I ended up with sore muscles under my arms and my cousin ended up showing me how to use them (push off with your hands on the handle, don't rest your armpit on the crutches) The doctors that prescribed crutches should have been the ones to tell me how to use them.....
Its hard to use crutches when your obese.
Medical staff don't take the time (or really, HAVE the time) to teach the use of mobility aids, especially crutches, which are often issued in the Emergency Room after a leg injury. Because of the backlog of waiting patients, after the nurse tells you that you have been discharged and hands you the paperwork which includes the doctor's instructions, an aide comes by with a wheelchair, hands you your crutches and wheels you out to the waiting area or to your waiting transportation. The sooner they can get you out, the sooner they can help the next patient. (Sometimes, I suspect most of the nurses, PAs, aides and other lower level medical staff really don't know how to set up crutches or how to use them!)
