I am a nurse and work in a union shop but I will never go on strike and leave patients without a nurse. And as for this article, it is misleading. Any time you have a nurse go to break another nurse has to cover those patients. That is the way it is. Hospitals cannot afford to pay staff to be on standby just to cover for breaks. I have worked as a hospital administrator and as a staff nurse and I understand both sides of this story. Working in health care comes with some strings attached. It is not like the corporate world. If you expect to get a relaxed hour for lunch with no interruptions then your in the wrong line of work. I have never expected that in the 32 years I have been in nursing. I have learned to eat fast and get back out on the floor. The patients come first.
