Caffeine addiction is such a downer that regular coffee drinkers may get no real pick-me-up from their morning cup, according to a study by British scientists.

Coffee still works for me and I've been drinking it for 35 years, perhaps they tested decaf... or more like some do gooder who thinks we should all stop drinking coffee.
I went to school with a guy that drank 3 pots of coffee a day ... yep, POTS. He said that he wasn't addicted to caffeine and could quit cold turkey anytime he wanted. Nobody believed him, obviously. Oddly enough, he wasn't very energetic, he was a pretty relaxed guy.
Yep. I'll 'fess up... caffeine is a drug and I am an addict. Without it I get tired and cranky, and until that first cup in the morning, my muscles and joints are stiff and sore. I've tried to quit and at various times succeeded temporarily, but then the alarm clock rings and I've got to get going...
I'm down to about two doses a day, that morning wake me up, and another at lunch. I guess I'll just keep tapering off.
Given the poor quality of store-bought coffee, I'm not surprised by the findings. You get what you pay for. I'd rather spend the extra money for fresh, well-roasted coffee than the junk you get from a can. If coffee is on sale, there's a reason.
It's just so interesting when I see people and organizations wasting time and money researching useless things.
That is almost as useless as wasting time reading such research findings. (Sarcasm)
Shut up and give my my coffee. 3 cups a day and lovin it.
I had to ween myself off the caffeine. The headaches I got from not "feeding the beast" became too much.
I think a lot of people who think they have migraines are actually feeling caffeine withdraw symptoms.
That's why Excedrin works. The main active ingredient is caffeine.
Caffeine headaches aren't as bad as migraines, I've had both. Whenever my caffeine consumption has gotten to high and I cut back I've gotten horrible headaches and a bad attitude. And this study seems to fit me, I have my coffee to wake up and a soda a little latter in the day, but I get no extra jolt. Hell a can fall asleep on a energy drink. And the caffeine Excedrin or any other pain medication is just to help it get through you system quicker, at least that's what I've heard.
Having worked as a counselor for delinquent pre-adolescent and early adolescent male youth, for over a decade, arriving at work at 6:30 am every morning. I learned quickly, that caffeine helped me be sharper than my supervised boys. Believe me, they would come up with every excuse or tactic in the book to get their needs met. From personal experience, a morning buzz, got the day started, with me a little sharper. I wonder if the scientists studied the effects of endomorphins on alertness?
