There is nothing new about sack tapping. TV, mass media outlets or some kind of social ineptitude didn't bring it about. Causing other males pain has been a part of male culture since the wheel. As we have seen in the past 15-20 years those who are bullies and those who are their victims have become much more violent as a result of these actions. bullies end up becoming violent criminals, while some victims end up so frustrated they bring guns to school and kill many innocent students and teachers before killing themselves (or simply kill themselves out of shame and humiliation). Bullying and Cyber-bullying has become an epidemic, and just as we would mobilize to combat a flu epidemic, so too must we mobilize to fight this one. Only when bullying is made not only illegal, but is shown to be against US values by getting teachers, parents, religious groups and the police involved in re-educating children and young adults that society will not stand for this behavior will this trend turn around, much as sex-ed did with teen pregnancies (until abstinence only came along and teen pregnancies and STDs ended a 30 year downward trend). Educate the students and the parents, so that when it does occur, parents can't claim they were not aware such bullying was occurring, and students (and parents) can be held accountable for breaking the law. The US is a country where the Rule of Law is paramount, and we need to start at home with getting us back on that track.

I must have missed something, because when I was a kid (both grammer and high school), I never remember myself or any of my friends hitting each other in the groin in some kind of "game." If there was an actual fight, then yeah, you'd see it every now and then, but not just as some part of idiotic "game" (I graduated high school in '86, just to give this a time frame). I first heard about this when my nephew was in 7th or 8th grade, when he told me he and his friends do it. I called him an idiot for doing it then, and now that he's 24, he admits that it was a stupid thing to do.

My husband and I are in our early 50s. It isn't that long ago that we were in junior high, but I had never heard of such a thing in my life. According to my family, I tend to be a little naive about this kind of thing, so I just asked my husband if this was common behavior among boys when he was in school. "Of course not" was his immediate answer.

So, what happened? It's been 40 years since my husband was this age, have males changed so much in such a short amount of time? Do boys today not understand limits or consequences of their behavior? I, too, am in my fifties (yeah, I know that's ancient history for some here), but I don't recall any of this kind of behavior. We had "wedgies," (pulling up the back of someones underwear so that it stuck outside their pants--now considered a fashion statement, but then a source of embarrassment) and "pantsing someone" (pulling down their pants--again considered cool nowadays to wear it that way) that was as far as it went.

If a girl had called another a "ho" when I was a student, the girl who uttered it would have received a black eye. FYI, rick, I'm not female or home schooled, but unlike you, I have a brain that has functioned well enough to earn my diploma and degree in the allotted time back in the 60's when we did math in our heads and calculus with a slide rule. Lettering in wrestling, track and soccer in college, serving in the USAF as an officer during the civil rights era, volunteering and going to Nam, managing sports and recreation operations in communities and on military bases, playing rugby into my 30's and learning about and adapting to all types of people has tempered my mind and body into appreciating everybody for who they are. Growing up a little guy, I had to learn to deal with bullies. Clue to people with brains: Bullies are dumb animals and cowards usually acting as a mob. If you show no fear, they wilt like the true pussies that they are. I'm not suggesting that potential victims physically fight back to deter bullies. My own remedy was usually a dose of swift pain and retribution that cured every bully foolish enough to mess with me. But, most potential victims do not possess the physicality to fight so they must use their intellect to prepare themselves for confrontations with bullies and for the ultimate solution. Tell them to their faces that you will report their sick butts to school authorities if their bullying persists. And then, do it.

I am saddened by all the talk from addlebrained men on this forum who seem to think that the only way to bond as men is to play games requiring genital contact....where were their parents when they were growing up? I would also like to point out that, though a small percentage of these attacks might be between friends and seen as play, any contact to the genitals/butt/breast area of an individual is most always considered a severely offensive breach of personal boundaries and has always been considered a no touch zone. One term I've heard of when a boy slaps a girl in the groin is camel-slapping. As of today, I have not heard of girls doing this behavior to eachother, but I have heard that a punch to the nose was VERY effective in warding of future attacks by boys, and - BONUS- it seems boys won't go running to tell the principal they were hurt by a GIRL! Seems like a boy could use the same response/defense as I doubt the boy who did the groin punching would want to be discovered and therefore probably won't be running to snitch for being punched in the nose (which can cause pain, too, but not usually long term damage or infertility).

The idea behind the game in the cartoon is the fat, bigotted kid (Cartman) tricks people into playing the game and then quickly says he goes first, thus, winning the game. However, later in the episode, the tables are turned by a celebrity who already knew of the game that Cartman played on others and when Cartman goes to play against the celebrity, the celebrity quickly says that he would go first and launches the attack.

Even as the lowest points of humanity are depicted as the storyline in adult comedic entertainment, society has a responsibility to children to protect them from these lows and teach them to aim for the highs....As adults, we use these outlets as a funny way to vent about the idiocy surrounding us in the world, we don't actually believe that what we are watching is acceptable. But children watch us laugh and learn to believe it is funny and acceptable and emulate it.

Children do not have the emotional maturity or wisdom to recognize sarcasm. We also taught him self control for he only hit one kid and it stopped. I hate to think of what could have happened if my grandson had lost his temper. The Irish in us runs deep.

This is the culture of smaller families which means fewer boys in families. Since boys are typically favored, you wind up with a society where 70 percent of college graduates are women and boys act like this. Boys are spoiled beyond recognition.

Unfortunately, teachers don't seem to want to give up a much needed break, parents don't want to volunteer, and principals seem to have lost their willingness to hold students accountable in the face of parents who don't think their "villiage" should have a say in how they raise their children.

I recently experienced first hand through working in the public school system and being confronted by parents who were offended by their child having to do pushups in PE for disrupting class, and by my daughter's experience with "camel-slapping" and having a boy try to molest her under the science class table - even the local prosecuting attorney's hands are tied to some degree with these behaviors as it is often one students word over another's, backed by their friends who tend to water the whole story down and on and on and on.....

Prevention will always begin at home by involved, concerned parents educating their children throughout their childhood and into young adulthood. Sit down to dinner around a table together. If you can't manage this most nights, you need to shuffle your priorities! If you decided to become a parent, it is your highest obligation to be involved!!!!!!!!!!!!

There aren't usually enough teachers to keep the class sizes down to a reasonable number, so there really aren't enough to also monitor hallways between classes or at breaks. Also, many teachers work through their breaks with students who need help with their assignments.

I volunteer at my son's school to monitor kids during lunch time. For 700 students they have 10 adults to monitor (myself included in that number). That's approximately 70 kids per adult to supervise.

Another thing is that schools are really reluctant to call the police for anything other than a situation that requires mandated reporting. Fights and assaults at school do not require mandated reporting. Parents are also reluctant to call in the police, as they see it as a school problem, even though there are definitely laws being broken. Parents need to realize that their rights and responsibilities as parents do not end when they drop their kids off at school. If your child is assaulted at school, the parents have the right to file a police report, request an investigation and prosecution if sufficient evidence is found.

the police need to be called with each incident. If not when it happens , later the doctor's and er at the hospitals must be made to report these as assults. the perpetrators need time in juvenille or prison depending on the age. regardless why they do the assult arrests need to be made.the judge can decide the severity and the punishment. then the parents will also take this seriously. i know some parents do take this seriously now but all the parents need to make this behavior stop as well as the taking of prescription and over the counter drugs. Kids get high, brains damaged and do bad things.
