A new study adds to evidence that pregnancy may worsen or bring on symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder in some women -- suggesting, researchers say, that certain cases of the disorder involve abnormal responses to hormonal changes.

Stop having babies, too many people now, problem solved
this comment is too stupid to even waste on a response but here goes (sigh)....people are not going to stop having babies (that is ridiculous) Currently statistics show that 50% of pregnancies are unplanned. If you want to lower birth rates 1) increase public school education ( a better educated woman waits longer to have children 2)We should educate parents on appropriate parenting 3) teach birth control --not just abstinence ( teens in the bible belt have the highest birth rates)
This is too true, I tried to explain this to my doctor/midwife--I sort of knew something was wrong. I am normally a pretty laid back secure person. I have been pregnant twice and each time I turned into a type A clean freak psychopath. Nothing was ever clean enough, nothing was ever perfect enough, ( i am a medical researcher) I demanded to see my chart every visit to make sure there were no errors. The doctors office switched scales so the new scale said I had gained 20 lbs instead of the 16 I had gained with the old scale---I freak out on the nurse claiming they were doing it on purpose! I could seriously go on all day about the weird stuff I did. I feel so bad for my poor husband ( and the nurses-who were angels) To my husband, I want to apologize publicly...I AM SO SORRY.... aren't you glad we decided to adopt now ? ;)
I lived with a woman who has OCD for 10 years. Although resistant to therapy, she did seek help a couple of times. I noticed that when she was really in the throes of the didorder, she would grow hair on her face. PMS made her symptoms worse. After her period, her symptoms peaked and she had panic attacks as a reaction when she couldn't do her cleaning. I mentioned to the therapist that there seemed to be a hormonal component to her OCD. My observations were scoffed at. I feel validated. We split because she wanted out three small kids to take extra baths, not allow the kids to hace "dirty" friends over, etc.
