Could it be that these eggs and sperm were not suppose to produce a baby, and wouldn't have without outside help? There is a certain amount of natural selection taking place in normal conception. Not saying people shouldn't try to become parents this way, just that they shouldn't expect everything to be perfect.
quite frankly, there should be VERY strict guidelines for couples who do fertility treatments. this business of having 4-8 babies at a time is ridiculous. if someone can't have a child naturally, they should adopt, plain and simple. it is very selfish of especially older couples to bring a child into this world when they are going to be too damned old to raise it properly! look at the problems with these extreme multiple births, myopic vision, cerebral palsy, retardation the list goes on, and who is paying for them? at some point the taxpayers will, that's who. when these people go on food stamps and welfare to help raise their kids, we pay for them and honestly, who can actually afford to raise more than 2 or 3 kids at a time? very few. so anyone considering this route, DON'T DO IT!! there is a reason why you can't have kids, so don't force the issue. adopt.
Shut up. You are just babbling about something you don't understand and you are going to hurt people who are already hurting with your ignorant rantings. Not all people who have to try fertility treatments are old. When it comes extreme multiples, good clinics limit the number of eggs that are produced or embryos that are implanted. Don't base everyone's experience on Octomom or John and Kate Plus Eight.
As for the idea that medicine shouldn't help people who are infertile "because there is a reason you can't have kids", that's like saying if you get a disease, don't seek treatment because there is a reason you are suppose to be sick.
Thank you so much JohnC!!!!! I wish I could vote for your post more than once.
It never ceases to amaze me how some people seem to have absolutely no inkling of the plight of others, nor any desire to achieve empathy or understanding to bridge their gap of ignorance.
Thanks, JohnC. As a parent of beautiful, healthy twin boys by IVF, I too am constantly amazed at the ignorance and sheer stupidity of people who say nasty things about ART. Your comment summed it all up.
Sounds to me like the real people you take issue with are the irresponsible drudges of society who continue to NATURALLY reproduce while refusing to get a job to care for the babies or pay for health insurance, diapers, milk, etc. I, for one am a responsible, married adult in my 20's with a good job and stability. I pay for health insurance for my family, I buy my own groceries, and I pay my taxes. My husband and I provide for our family without any government assistance. That being said, we are unable to get pregnant naturally. Is it fair to say that God sees us as unfit parents? I would hope not seeing as how he blessed us with a beautiful, smart, perfect baby boy to raise. And contrary to your beliefs, those couples who rely on IVF tend to be more responsible in respect to having children, as we have to pay alot of money out of pocket to get pregnant, so we realize our resources are limited. Your post is inflammatory not only because of your lack of proper grammer and punctuation, but mostly because of your ignorance on the subject.
john c- when the world has an out of control population, the last thing we need to do is get infertile people to conceive. there are hundreds of thousands of children who need homes, so what you are saying is forget them , let everyone have as many kids as possible for as long as possible. as for multiples, doctors should definitely be held accountable for excessive births, or better yet refer their patients to an orphanage. infertility isn't a disease, it's god's way of saying, STOP!!!!!
My son is adopted so I am pretty sure that I am not saying "forget" all the children who need homes. If your goal is to encourage adoption, great. But, it's not, is it? Otherwise you would be encouraging all couples to adopt, not just the infertile.
So is cancer God's way of saying "die"? Of course not! When we have a disease, we seek medical help. Disease is not God's way of thinning out the herd.
John Martin...I meant to click Reply and clicked Vote by accident. Most definitely I did NOT vote for your post. Nowhere did John C say anything about letting people have as many kids as possible. Be accurate and be fair, please.
And you failed to respond to his excellent point about sick people seeking treatment, because if they got sick, it must be God's plan. What about people who get laid off? Does God want them to be unemployed? What about people whose homes are destroyed in hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, tornadoes, or fires? Does God want them to be homeless?
I think you should admit that you have no idea what God wants to say, so please use your posts to express your OWN opinion and stop opining about what God does or does not want!
why not? you people seem to think that you know what god wants. these people need to 1. prove they can support a child adequately 2 take parenting classes and 3. ADOPT!!! stop having kids when you are infertile, it is NOT a disease. there are other answers other than the clinic. and that is my own opinion.
Why? Fertile couples do not have to prove they can support a child adequetely or take parenting classes or adopt. What's the difference?
One of the most common causes of infertility is Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome which is, in fact, a DISEASE.
I don't pretend to know what God wants. But I certainly don't believe He is sitting on His heavenly throne striking men and woman with infertility so they can't have children.

It's not nice to fool Mother Nature.
rogue, just what I was thinking. LOL

Apparently, I was lost in my own thoughts. Just in case it wasn't clear, our dear son is a result of IVF.

"Defect risk higher for assisted fertility babies"
They tend to become liberals so seems to be substantiated.
