Exactly where is the 16 mil going to? Who gets the money, and why now. If they have been doing sloppy work for a very long time, then maybe it's time to shut them down and restructure the whole organization altogether.
Uhmm not really, you do realize that a good 80% of the 9/11 donations NEVER went to 9/11 families. Red Crosses response "We never claimed to make promises as to where donations are used".
Nearly 1 billion was donated to the red cross for Katrina, yet they billed the US government for reimbursement for shelters and supplies. And so you know the Red Cross doesn't give that blood away they sell it, they make almost 3 billion every year. All while the red cross CEO is pulling in nearly $700,000 a year in salary.
Next time educate yourself before opening your yap.
WOW, shame on the fda. The red cross helps so many people, and it's mostly donations.
Well Tina, if you want to donate, let me know. I can give you my address and info and you can donate directly to someone that needs help. Going through the Red Cross and other organizations like this, you are not only donating for what you may think is a good cause, but you are also paying their exorbitant salaries as well.
People donate blood to the Red Cross, which then turns around and sells it for cash.
It's a huge money maker for them.
They make it seem like they are doing a public service, but they get tax breaks while the legitimate blood brokers with whom they compete have to pay taxes.
The Red Cross has a long history of not doing its job to protect our blood supply. I love the FDA statement that despite these violations, the blood supply "appears" to be safe. Classic! The Red Cross is the most mismanaged charitable organization on the planet. I stopped donating any of my money after my husband volunteered in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. He watched the waste and apathy from the paid employees of this agency first hand. The volunteers may care and do their best, but the people who work at the Red Cross are a different story. I won't donate my blood for them to sell it to hospitals, and have a monopoly on our blood supply, only to fail to follow procedures to ensure the safety of that very blood supply.
Think that's bad. You should see how they mistreet their own volunteers doing disaster duty. That, plus giving aid and comfort to our enemies makes this a fantastic organization.
Yes, my husband experienced that first hand also. He came back a different person and they could not have cared less about him or our family. There was no followup with regards to what he saw and dealt with. He is forever changed and so is our family. I mean no offense to those that suffered the horrors of Katrina, but our family was another victim of that storm due to the Red Cross.
No big surprise that they don't screen their blood...have you ever visited a Red Cross office? The buildings are filthy, poor lighting, dilapidated, disorganized. It's a wonder they can find anything! I do believe they do a lot of good things, but as another person stated, it's mostly due to the efforts of their volunteers, not their paid staff. From my experience as a Red Cross CPR instructor, the paid staff are some of the laziest people I've ever met....and the ones in our National Capital chapter and at the national headquarters are the worst! I refuse to donate to the Red Cross, and am looking into switching my instructor certification to the American Heart Association instead of the Red Cross due to the ridiculous fees and hoops you have to jump through, not to mention the waste of donated funds.
Outrageous. Another tax on the end user.

That'll teach you to give aid and comfort to our enemies Red Cross. Continue treating Taliban and Al-Queda and maybe we can put you out of business.
Perhaps this is why my surgeons always told me prior to surgery, "have your own blood on standby just in case." hmmmm.

Oh Good, yep, let's let the gays donate blood, too, I have always wondered what it felt like to be HIV positive.
Your ignorance is far more dangerous.
