Enough is enough. Please, if any of you out there know of uneducated people who do not have their dogs fixed or of someone that has an animal that is having liter after liter, please speak up, educate them and let them know that these are lives that are being destroyed. Many people don't know that many of these shelter dogs and cats are sold to Universities, or experimental labs, where they are brutally experimented on. Almost all were pets at one point. Do something, say something and do not tolerate it any more. We have got to have more humanity than this.
I have two shelter dogs that are absolutely wonderful. I wish people would not get so caught up in having the breed of the moment and give these dogs a chance. I could not ask for better dogs than what I have.
It is a shame that we put dogs to sleep because no one wants them and yet do not mandate that owners fix the dogs so they can't have any more. How about fixing humans that keep having kids and don't support them? A guy can have 12 kids, never support them and yet it is ok?
Dogs give people a life that they don't expect anything in return other than love and to be fed. I am a dog owner and have been all of my life. I have only put dogs down in the direst of circumstances and am saddened that humane socities cannot find others to take them before they end up on doggy death row and then get discarded into a dumpster like they did not mean anything to anyone. How sad for our four legged felines that don't deserve this at any point in their lives.
I have adopted and rescued dogs, cats, and horses my whole life and have had the most wonderful companions a person could ask for. Some had issues because of cruel treament by a former owner, but with a little love and patience, they always were willing to try and trust and respond with unconditional love. Please spay and neuter your pets. While you are at it, do the same to the idiots in the human gene pool that could be so cruel to an animal so they don't multiply. If you are going to euthanize anything, do it to the person that harms a defenseless animal. The more I know of humans, the more I like my pets....
This is a very nice article yet there is one thing that is NOT being told.... there is a woman out east who works with Humane Shelters who has set up the "dog bite" test for shelter dogs. It is a no win situation. She has also decided that no one needs to own any dog larger than 30 pounds and is pushing hard to get legislation passed to ban dog ownership to any non-police or military people of any large dog or dogs that are purebred. This person has no right to decide what type of dog someone can own. Not everyone wants a little yapyap dog. I am happy for those who will take these little dogs however, I am not about to have some person come and tell me I can't have my German Shepherd Dogs! They are my chosen breed and last I heard, this was still a semi-free country where we could choose what we want to own. Not everyone is prepared to deal with the baggage a shelter dog comes with and kudos to those who do. Many little dogs are not good family pets for people with little children. And as long as idiots are allowed to create designer dogs and bigger idiots spend huge amounts of money to buy them, these same dogs will languish and die in shelters. Don't go after legitimate dog breeders but go after those who deliberately breed pound puppies and tell the wealthy to stop buying from them and go to shelters and get the same unique dog there....
This sounds a bit over the top and she'd have A LOT of people working to 'poop all over' her legislation. I don't own a dog (nothing against them personally), but this woman's efforts seem to go too far.
The key to the over-population is spaying and neutering all pets and shutting down puppy mills. It is also about combating perceptions about older animals, both cats and dogs. People think there's something wrong with them. What was wrong with them were their former owners and there was nothing wrong with them.
I'm not a fan of puppies or kittens, because of all the training involved. Most shelter animals are already trained, especially cats, and the destructive phase of their maturing is over. There is everthing to GAIN and nothing to LOSE when adopting an older animal.
2 months ago, a truckload of these dogs were brought to Idaho and we adopted the sweetest little chihuahua in the world. They literally "flew off the shelves" and were gone within a few hours of being released after microchipping, vaccinating, et. Bring more! There has to be a way to work together, truckers bringing empty trailers back to other states, load them up! People will adopt them if you can get them out there!
I think it is straight bs that these dogs are coming to canada this isnt a dimping grounds for your unwanted dogs and horses and as of right now I will do my part to see to it it is stopped
as a horse breeder here I am feeling the shock of usa junk horses and my son and daughter-in-law raise small dogs we dont need usa cast offs
canada should close borders to this just as you guys have with our beef
If people are buying or obtaining them, doesn't this tell you that there is a demand you are not fulfilling? Junk horses? Your son breeds dogs? Hmm. Yet people are buying these animals. Why not yours and your sons? I volunteer for an Equestrian therapy center in Houston and we would love for you to get us some "junk" for these people to ride. My client can only come once a week because demand is so high and the animals donated are so few. Just for your information, Equestrian Therapy is a beautiful thing.
Damn, that's pathetic and sick. Bless this woman in Alberta and curse the owners of dogs who don't chip or tatoo them so they can get back where they belong. Damn the ones to H*$$ that just dump these Creatures of God to be destroyed.
I'm living in Asia and a guy drives by every morning with a truck load of dogs. He doesn't stop at our house, because Thai's do not admit to having dog on the menu.
But he is driving a new truck and business seems to be good......
Your trash dog or horse should not be wasted... Ha! Ha!
The standing joke around here, 'You can always tell where the Chinese live. There are few stray dogs and cats to deal with.'
Wonderfull! Does my heart good to hear about it. Around where I live there are so many pitbulls who can't be adopted in the shelters here it makes me sad. I have a wonderfull pit who is my companion. She loves other dogs, children, and people. She is intelligent and is soon to be trained as my service dog. She came from a bad bad situation, but she was a diamond in the rough waiting for some love, some exercise, and some humane discipline. Anni
Thank you to the wonderful Canadian for rescuing these dogs. I admire her.
I have 3 wonderful dogs that I love dearly. I can not imagine them in a shelter sitting there alone. How sad for those puppies to have lost their families. Thankfully they are getting new ones.

God bless this woman - she could be spending her money on jewelry or men and she chooses to save these poor innocent dogs.
The world needs more people like her!

thank you. All these dogs want is a home and someone to love them. I guess if that can't find it here in the USA Canada is opening its arms

The state actually requires a 5 day hold.
