Cholesterol medication, testosterone replacement therapy, on and on, every guy I know is on both or have at least been encouraged to do so. We're not patients anymore, we're frigging ATM's. Funny how the only medication that will save your life is the newest, most whiz bang thing on the market. To go with it, most general practitioners anymore pretty much stop at checking blood pressure, from there it's off to their specialist colleagues for yet some more tests and, of course, more bills to pay. I myself won't put up with that crap. I tell them going in that unless there is absolutely no alternative they will be prescribing generics, and they will need to be able to handle the majority of my issues themselves, If they can't agree to those terms I say thanks and go find someone else. I simply refuse to be used for a cash machine. People need to remember that your doctor works for you, not the other way around.
Does AstraZeneca have stock in kidney transplants? the risk of statins is liver damage. To put a harmful drug into healthy people for a result there is no proof is foolish. the pharms make billions of profit on the destruction of healthy people tomake them sick for the sale of more drugs. If you feel you need to take a statin, try a natural called Red Rice Yeast. All the benefits and none of the risk. Why have the numbers for cholestrol dropped so low? i know $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to the pharm
I completely agree with you. When are peope going to wake up and start taking responsibility for their own bodies. Dollar signs, dollar signs and more dollar signs. That is what this so called Medical field has become. What a shame.
Statin drugs = BIGGEST SCAM IN HISTORY. There is NO correlation between high cholesterol and heart disease rates - NONE whatsoever. This is a myth perpetrated by the pharmaceutical companies. You don't have to wonder why the recommended cholesterol numbers keep getting lower - it finds more potential (lifetime!) customers.
Then again, we still have fluoride, the second-most toxic substance on earth, being dumped into our drinking water as a "health benefit." I stand corrected... that really is the BIGGEST SCAM IN HISTORY.
More research should be done regarding possible dangers of too-low-cholesterol levels.
Cholesterol binds with neurotransmitters such as serotonin that regulate mood, and people with very low cholesterol -- either naturally or statin induced -- can be depressed, angry, and even violent.
I was prescribed a statin, started taking it daily. I was warned that I would probably experience muscle aches but, "they would probably go away after time". They didn't but my doc. said "best keep taking them". I discontinued taking the drug after my bro. in law (another doctor) said statins cause muscle atrophy. Well, the heart is a muscle isn't it? The same medicine that is supposed to save my heart is causing it to atrophy?? What the *%&$!! I think Doctors mean well but the Pharmaceutical mfg's and the Gov. not so much.
Cholesterol is not a problem! This was proven forty three years ago at Harvard by Dr. Kilmer McCully, the father of homocysteine . Check out the article in the New York Times Magazine dated August 10,1997. All the drugs for cholesterol will destroy your liver!!!!! But the drug companies and drug doctors would lose billions if these deadly drugs are removed from the market as they should be. Doctors should be checking for homocysteines not cholesterol.

All drugs have "side effects" which are really new disease conditions forming in your body as a reaction to the toxins you're consuming in the drugs. But don't worry... there's other drugs that will treat your new problems. Can you see the logic?
Whatever happened to diet and exercise? If only we could spend more time educating our patients and less time dictating to them we may have better success in promoting lifestyle modifications. nutrition tip of the day on twitter @jaimeschehrnd
To justify a strict control of cholesterol and blood pressure, pharmaceutical companies should test the effect of medicines on the life span of healthy animals.
But they use only sick animals for experiment.
Maybe Pravastatin is the safest statin for the liver, but I have experienced a case of raised AST and ALT by a small additional dose from 5 mg to 10 mg.
If pharmaceutical companies don’t test their medicines with healthy animals, the government should do.

you are spot on

If you are healthy, you shouldn't be on medication. Period.

absolutely correct
Statin drugs potentially can damage the liver. All that is being done is transferring the disease risk from the heart to the liver. Why?
