AT this point, why are we allowing anything to be imported from China, especially any food stuff! Lead in kids toys and other have made China untrustworthy on any matter and should be boycotted period!
*sigh* Again, this forumla is not being sold here. Its a domestic product for China only. But, you try to buy strictly American. I tried for a bit, its insane. And our FDA does not require food to be labeled where it comes from. So good luck with that one too.
Of course, most people that yell the loudest about buying American don't like the way there are too many regulations about industry in this country. Do you want safety standards or cheap goods made in the US? You can't have both and companies will always look for ways to cut costs. That means cutting corners or labor costs or both. We need more companies like Maglite and we need a consumer base willing to pay more for the quality.
Nonsense My son works for a manufacturing company here in the US that does super because their products are superior to any that are imported. all that less regulation crap is just that. We deregulated the financial and oil industry and look where that got us. Americans will pay for quality when they can find it over the worthless Chinese imported crap and you comment that the "formula" is for domestic use is BS. How do we know it is not being used in the food stuffs we buy from China. I do not nuy anything in any store to eat that does not have the country of origin in plain site on the label. After spending a few years in China I would suggest all of you do the same because a country who has such lax regulations that they can sell toothpaste with anti freeze in it and poisoned baby formula what lead in children's toys cadmium in costume jewelry and tainted shrimp for a few thing what could be wrong with what you just walked out of Wal Marts with? Answer almost anything.

geez you'd think people living under an oppressive government with a standard of living and an average wage only a fraction of that in this country would have our best interests at heart when dealing with us. or not
As a liberal, I'm finding it quite interesting that China is legislating against this practice -- and even executing business owners who are proven to be fraudulently carrying out the practice.
So: legislation and incarceration (traditional liberal values) have no effect.
So: capital punishment (traditional conservative values) has no effect.
What is there left to do? Seems hopeless.
Question: wouldnt burrying it contaminate the soil and burning it possibly release the toxins in the air?
This chemical is only dangerous when ingested in large quantities and repeatedly. The substance collects in the kidneys and forms stones and can lead to kidney failure with high enough exposure. This is especially bad for the small children who have a lower tolerance and smaller kidneys and this is mostly baby formula that is being tainted. Thus burning it is not going to cause major health concerns, this is not a carcinogen or like lead/heavy metals.
Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty... a Chinese once said that. Not.

When will the United States wake up? *Whether it is food or products make it here. Sure it will cost more to make here. Big deal. So we learn to spend our money on what we really need instead of what we want. Build it to last. Why could the household appliances my Mother bought last 20 years when they were made here but the foreign made ones I buy today barely last 5 years?
They are at least catching this stuff now, but for those of you who have commented about this stuff coming here. Its not. This is baby formula that is only destributed in China. Still sad, because their society has the one child law and socially modern women are not encouraged to breast feed. That's why so many babies got sick and died in 2008.
Americans need to wake up to the fact that China is not our friend. They are in the business to slowly take over as #1 world power. They have poisoned our children with lead and Cadmium--which by the way is the perfect way to infiltrate and bring down a society, this stuff kills brain cells in childern: think about it. They have the fastest growing economy and GDP, they're military spend is the fastest growing of any country in the world. US jobs are being outsourced to China by the hundreds & thousands every month. China hacks into US government, military and tech companies at a rate of a million times per day! Why should the US continue to support this country's economy while they are only harming ours?! Boycott Chinese made product! When you're shopping take two seconds to look and see where it's made!
It is true that the tainted formula is not sold here but plenty of food, herbs and drinks made in China are. Personally, I would not eat or drink anything produced in that cesspool of a country. It may be impossible not to buy a CD player made there, but you sure as hell can avoid their food.
Where is the Chinese FDA? And why don't we test Chinese food imports on a routine basis to ensure that the food we eat is safe? I strongly believe that we are poisoning our children slowly and that the U.S. government can do something about it.
I have the capability to test the food I eat in my laboratory, but that is selfish; we inspect baggage for illegal drugs, Why don't we inspect imported food for chemical weapons of mass destruction?
logdump: I would be interested to know what you're eating if you only eat foods with the country of origin clearly printed on the label. I have done enough grocery shopping to know that that would severely limit your options. I try to eat local organic as much as time and $ allow, but if you buy anything processed at all, it can be very difficult to source the product, much less the ingredients. Even if the processed product is made/manufactured in the US, the component ingredients are often not. Short of going off grid and griding your own peanut butter, I can't imagine that what your saying could possibly be true. Don't get me wrong, what's happening in China is terrible, but let's not exaggerate.
Everything that comes from china should have a SKULL & CROSS BONES on it.

Wow, so many comments about the food in China. Do you guys even know what kind of gross stuff you're feeding your kids each day when you buy prepackaged "food"..?
We are killing our kids, too. It just takes a few more decades to get the job done in the good ole USA.
Check the cans on your food. You will be surprised how many products sold in your neighborhood grocery store are from China. Buy AMERICAN!
Not to play devil's advocate, but does anyone recall how many US foodstuffs have been recalled as the source of mass sickening? I'm with wyominggal-377027. We can't point fingers accross the pond and act like we know what we're doing. Why else is the Tylenol plant closed and half a dozen other recalls issued every day?

So there are corporate entrepreneurs in China too. People that would sell out their children's futures for a couple dollars profit. Gamblers like our financial movers and shakers, gambling with the odds that may be none of their friends are killed with poison foods. PROFIT, MONEY, POWER, KNOWS NO NATIONALITY. Well placed Chinese are doing what our corporate overlords have been doing for century's, at least in China they HAD RESPECT, WE SHOWED THEM HOW TO GO AROUND THAT LITTLE BIT OF HONOR. WE WILL REGRET THAT VERY SOON.
