The easiest way is to develop enjoyable interests or a lifestyle involving physical activity and distraction from eating. If you're unable, for health reasons, to engage in strenuous activity, then develop activities you enjoy and look forward to engaging in. Either will help you wean yourself from preoccupation with food and eating. The problem with diets is that they keep you focused on food and eating. The problem with going to a gym to work out is that just getting there can be a nuisance, and working out is fundamentally boring, and the body focus can be difficult for the self-conscious. But, if you join a bicycling club, you get to meet people and cruise through enjoyable scenery. If you garden, you end up with flowers, fruit and vegetables and a house with curb appeal - and you get to spend time outside. If you love animals, walking a dog can be pleasant and social, and you can volunteer at shelters or rescues.... etc.
Every other week you read some "new" study that contradicts the "old" study....as if, nobody has any clue what to do....drink 8 glasses of water a day, don't drink 8 glasses of water a day...eat eggs, don't eat eggs, OK...eat eggs,....coffee's good, nope it's bad, yup it's good again...this just goes to show you that not only does mankind NOT possess the abilty to direct his own steps (ex. Mankind has tried every form of government under the sun and not a single one has worked...some have lasted a few years and some a few hundred years, but none have LASTED!)but mankind is also a liar!!!
two concepts revealed thosands of years ago...in the Bible... (Jer 10:23, Rom 3:4,10,11)
No matter what the topic of discussion, it just always has to come back to the Bible for some people, doesn't it. Newsflash: religion is just as prone to fallacy as scientific studies, politics, or any other form of human endeavor.
I agree. It can make you crazy. You left out the mixed messages we get about potatoes. After the "new study" dust clears, it always come down to just eating a wide variety of foods, as close to their natural state as possible; not processed or tampered.
By the way, if you let your potatoes cool after cooking, there is more of the resistant starch and lower glycemic index. And always eat carbs with a healthy fat or protein.
Buy a five-pound bag of carrots each week, divide it up into one-pound bags, and eat one bag per day at work. (Or a half-pound if you're a smaller person.) The constant chewing is a great appetite suppressant, and an entire pound of carrots only has about 200 calories, most of which you are going to burn just chewing them up.
Your nostrils are connected to a common central cavity, so closing one and breathing through the other absolutely DOES NOT get a particular scent to one half of your brain.
I would love to have grapefruit for breakfast, but with a double lung transplant and the anti-rejection medications you have to take, I can not eat grapefruit.
It should be made known to transplant patients that grapefruit may be harm full to your health.
I used to think that when I lost weight, THEN I would exercise! Instead, I started exercising (walking), and discovered to my pleasure that it curbed my appetite. Walking is not too difficult, free, and with an MP3 player, not boring.
BTW, I read a scientific study a few years ago, that showed that exercise decreased the appetite, the exception being swimming. Since the body is in cool water, the body doesn't heat up, so the appetite is not reduced.
Don't eat on the first wave of supposed hunger. It will pass. The second wave is for real, the first may just be thirst. At the second wave practice portion control.
Don't eat from habit. Bring a sandwich to work, eat it when you get hungry, not by the clock.
Smelling food can control appetite!! Ok then, off to take a big whiff of my steak.(sniffs) Oh, wow, that was good. Now I have to eat it to see what I've been missing!
The trick is to keep your stomach small. If you eat a lot of low-calorie food, your stomach will be stretched and you will always be hungry. If you continously eat small amounts, over the weeks your stomach will shrink and you will less hungry.
Potatoes as in Baked Potatoes? Did you nutritionists pay attention in class when the topics of insulin, leptin, and glycemic index were discussed?
How about eggs, spinach, and feta cheese instead? Oh that's right, you still live in the 1950s and think cholesterol is a poison designed by the body to kill itself.
Smell fruits but eat fats and loads of protein? Yeah, if you want to end up in the hospital. Google china study. Eat the fruit, don't just smell it. Put the protein back in the fridge.

I tried eating a one pound bag at work; the results were explosive. Be careful; could be embarrassing. R
Sounds good until your skin turns orange....which it will.....
Great idea, Dan. There's no way your workmates will be annoyed by the constant chomping noises coming from your cubicle.

Grapefruit also a no-no for those on cholesterol lowering meds.
What's up with this?
No "ONE SIMPLE" trick for this?
Every other gimick on MSNBC claims to use only one.
Have a cup of vegetable soup (less than 100 cal), hot liquids will tame your appettite.
You need to make your own, too much sodium in canned anything.

Also, for those on any synthetic thyroid replacement such as synthroid, grapefruit, sadly, is a no-no.
Also many types of blood pressure medication get the "OH NO" on having any type of grapefruit.
