You know this reminds me of the Salem witch hunts. Research study after research study tells us this stuff is way less harmful than alcohol but the prohibition remains. What prohibition has done is create over a million teenage drug dealers. Prohibition then puts them in contact with meth, heroin, and the really dangerous oxycotin (which is legal)
When are we going to wake up?
I've wondered for years how much money is invested in the drug cartels by our politicians, how else do you explain the continuing prohibition?
The problem is that the pols have not figured out how to tax something that can be grown in your own basement/attic...
alcohol can be brewed in your basement, but the government seems pretty effective in taxing that. Making wine is arguably easier than growing marijuana.
what has created all those drug addicts is the unenforced borders where the drugs come into this blasted country unchecked and undeterred.
Here in Florida, we plan to legalize in 2051 in January but strict limits will be placed.
But the oxycotin train just keeps on motoring along.

I'm not sure about the politicians, but the banks that got Bailouts seem to have their skinny corrupt fingers in the drug cartel piggy-banks. It seems nowadays Wall Street and our corrupt government are joined at the hip,,,so.

Well I see the potheads are lobbying for their favorite drug. Far from being a benign little toot, marijuana use affects motivation, lowers testosterone levels, contributes to depression and is psychologically addictive. There's a good reason it's called dope.
We already have enough problems with legal drugs like alcohol and pharmaceuticals so adding one more to the list isn't going to help. But the creativity of the arguments in favor of legalizing pot only lend proof to the old saying among therapists: How can you tell when an addict is lying? His lips are moving.
For all the dopers out there, see if you can actually quit for 3 months. If you can you might stop rationalizing your need for this drug.
If anyone is looking for a perfect example of the effects of political propaganda, then you've found it! You can easily spot this by the the way the words potheads, dopers, and dope are just thrown in there like their typical everyday words. But you can totally blame this person. It started before he/she were born.
@bcIndiana... I haven't smoked marijuna for more than 8 yrs, so you can keep your stereotypical opinions to yourself. There are many "rational" reasons to legalize it other than just some "potheads" trying to get high on "dope", but your brainwashed blinders will not let you see it!
Marijuana is too expensive for our justice system and should instead be taxed to support beneficial government programs. Law enforcement has more important responsibilities than arresting almost one million individuals a year for marijuana possession. Marijuana arrests wastes jail space, clogs up court systems, and diverts time of police, attorneys, judges, and corrections officials away from violent crime, the sexual abuse of children, and terrorism. Also, taxing marijuana can provide a much needed and generous funding to many important criminal justice and social programs. Marijuana is not a lethal drug and is safer than alcohol. It is not nearly as addictive as alcohol or tobacco. It is unfair and unjust to treat marijuana users more harshly under the law than users of alcohol or tobacco. The illegality of marijuana makes it more valuable than if it were legal, providing opportunities for teenagers to make ease money selling it to their friends. If the excessive profits for marijuana sales were ended through legalization there would be less incentive for teens to see it to one another. Teenage use of alcohol and tobacco remain serious public health problems even though those drugs are legal for adults, however, the availability of alcohol and tobacco is not made even more widespread by providing kids with economic incentives to sell either one to their friends and/or peers.
I'll stop there, but there are many more reasons. It would have been nice to see some sort of intelligence in your post. But instead of actually researching and believing what you want to believe, you choose to believe what has been instilled in your brain from birth. It's not your fault that you are a follower. Over the 4th of July I was watching a show about the founding fathers of America, and it was mentioned how they all grew it, and almost certainly all smoked it... Washington, Jefferson, Ben Franklin, etc... Jefferson even traveled to other countries to get stronger seeds! Perhaps thats why they were able to have such radical thinking, and noble, lofty ideals....

I agree, let's just legalize it. Think of the tax revenue!! I and many believe alcohol is way more dangerous than pot. Although NO ONE should drive impaired, EVER, drinking and driving is way way more dangerous than smoking pot and driving. YES BOTH ARE WRONG AND BAD AND I WISH NEITHER HAPPENED! But I am being realistic. I guess I just don't see why everyone is ok with alcohol and pot is so taboo.
Civil disobedience is the way to legalization. Exert your constitutional right to the "pursuit of happiness". Only by cramming it down the puritanical moralists throats will we stop the persecution. There's nothing on Earth that will stop me from continuing to exercise personal free will in my own home.
The lawmakers who allow this persecution on behalf of the puritanicals, are the ones who should be in jail. In fact I want them prosecuted. How many have suffered due to their forcing Christian morality on everyone. Wheres the separation of Church and State? How many lives have they ruined for no reason other then their beliefs. They are no better than the Taliban.

I know many Police Officer's and Sheriff's that state, "they feel marijuana should be legal." You know it's messed up when the law enforcement folks know that "marijuana" is not an actual problem.
I find the laws against Marijuana to be immoral and unethical in every way, so I stand against them because it is our right to oppose and defy, that which we find to be unreasonable.
It is what it is though, and it's sad....

In Alaska pot is bought and sold everywhere and is easyly more availabile than a pack of cigs. car wreaks, people doing stupid things, all under the spell of just a pipe or two. It is much cheaper to get stuped on pot than pot, so I support the hypocrisy of makeing a joint a god given right. We already have too many stupid drugges stumbling around and I'm sure making drugs legal will thin the hordes who believe a @!$%#ed up mind is fine.

Listen, I don't smoke, but good God I'm tired of the propaganda on BOTH sides of this ridiculous argument! If people want to get stoned, let them. Just make sure it is done in the home or smoking establishments. I have the right not to be exposed to another form of second-hand smoke walking down the street, at a ballgame, or concert.

I agree - legalize pot, while we are at it might as wll bring crack, cocain, heroin and crank into the fold. If we can keep the working class high they will never want anything other than a bong, a few beers, a trailer to live in, and a '95 Camry.
Heaven forbid if they ever get right and realize that a better world exists outside of getting high.

Just to set the record straight - I have no use for alcohol either. From my perspective the vast majority of this worlds ills come from drugs and drinking.

Interesting, I qualify for medical marijuana. My dr even recomended it, I turned it down. I would rather live in this discomfort but still have my mind in tact. I feel sorry fr those that actually need it, as I know their pain is great. But for so many 'loadies' to fake illness or injury to get it without consequence disturbs me. I know that CA once the leader in this movement is now shutting down most of the 'distributorships' and is now investigating the drs that prescribe it. You don't need a joint when an aspirin will do.
Problem is aspirin kills thousands each year. To use the words of the previous drug czar, "show me somebody that has died from cannabis and I'll show you a unicorn". Zero, thats how many that has died from it! None, zilch! That is unless you count the thousands and thousands that have died in prison, or been killed by the storm troopers enforcing the stupid prohibition.
I have rheumatoid arthritis. My doctor was in med school at Va. when the tests were done in 1972 by the Nixon administration. He didn't like the results so in the trash it went. His own DEA law judge said it was the most benign substance know to man. Look it up. It is in the congressional record. Yet the lies persist.
Really? If your doctor prescriped you pills, would you also question him and turn them down, or run right out to the pharmacy?

A very close friend of mine (in NY where medical marajuana is still illegal) has Lupus, and a few other debilitating illnesses, including a brain tumor... she smoked for the pain, and also to regain an appetite... nothing else helped her... I'm not 100% convinced that this is actually related, but after smoking almost daily for a few years her tumor disappeared from her brain scans (??!!!???) ... and by the way her thinking mind is just as sharp as ever...
We don't need our children lighting up because it is legal. What kind of an example are we setting for the next generation?It will add to the burden of drug addiction and lethargy that goes with pot use.
A million teenage drug dealer caused prohibition. They don't check ID's and they sell meth heroin, etc. Which is better? selling it at Walgreen's where they check ID or the teen age drug dealer? Wake up already. It is easier to get than a 12 Pack. If you don't believe me ask your son or daughter.

Marijuana was made illegal for crowd control purposes. If everyone was chill and happy, the government would have less influence over the population. People would realize what a croc our government has become as well. Alcohol is clearly worse for society than weed. It's not even a seriously debatable issue. It's part of what feeds people into the penal system. Prisons are a big big money business in this country. Therefore we have to keep putting people in prison. If there were no more pot busts, privatized prisons would be hurting. So the government subsidizes the industry by keeping pot illegal.

i don't use drugs at all. don't drink booze or smoke. but the fact remains, the government created this mess over 60 years ago. people were smoking weed for decades, then when everything became a witch hunt i.e. (who's a communist, who's spying on America, who's doing whatever) pot became one of those ills that the noisy minority couldn't let alone. Booze is way worse than pot. Either make it illegal or legalize pot. Either/Or. Kierkegaard knew something about that ha.

To find a doctor and a provider can be a bit of a hassle.....To bring patients and doctors together like this guy did is a really good idea.
Maybe something like this should be started in WA. I know that the drs aren't supposed to provide referrals to dispensaries, but as a third party just organizing the event.....dr's in one conference room at the hilton and one conference room for the providers.
Legalize the drugs causing all the crime in Mexico and on the border. Don't let a couple of companies control all drugs and advertise to get people addicted. People are smoking less now because of education. Maybe have certain buildings like bars where it is legal but other places like schools where it is illegal. Then lets raise money by taxing them. Maybe that could help solve financial problems of the states , help with illegal immigration from Mexico. If people could make money growing drugs legally down there maybe they would stay and there would be less crime.

We should legalize it, but the taxes will not help. It we stop most of whats going on in Mexico. Marijuana has been around a lot longer then we have and yet the goverment had use it in the prison from the 1920 to the 1960, and the feds was useing all kinds of drugs and yet the ones that help outlaw thedrugs are the ones that used then in the 50's and 60's. We, the people of the U.S.A. needs to wake up.
