WHHOOOO CCAAARREES!!!! I loooovveee guacamole, salsa, and chips. Much rather get the runs from eating Tostitos salsa than getting fat followed by heart disease from good ol' American KFC.
this is hilarious but on a serious note one of the two local mexican joints in my town was caught by a health inspector, they were pouring the remaining salsa containers left by customers back into the main batch in the kitchen, now thats some serious double dippin, and if lil billy is sick odds are all who ate his dippins is sick also, then ask yourself have you ever seen them emptying those salsa containers, nope most mexican joints block out the entire kitchen, they know you won't stay if you see whats goin on behind those walls
only a fool would go to Mexico....and yes i know..we have lots of fools...bu not as many as before...like me, i will never go back...why would i.... been there done that...but if you really need to know what its like just go to California...its not hard to find some 3rd world towns in ca.
This is funny. If this is so then why don't people in Mexico (where guacamole, avocado slices and chips are made every day and consumed even on street carts) die or get sick like this?
I've spent a lot of time in Mexico, Central and South America and eat street food yet have never gotten sick and I consider this food "fresh" since it's made on the spot. Why then are all the problems over here? Same goes for all the e-coli outbreaks all over the place in meat and other foods which seems the more the government pressure people over "safe food handling techniques" more problems arise, why is that do you think?
For many years the word was that no avocados from Michoacan could come into the US. These are known to be the highest quality avocados anywhere yet due to protectionism towards the California avocado businesses damaging information was disseminated to infer that these were contaminated by insects and other problems so they would not be purchased. Now we have yet another report pointing to chips, salsa (who has replaced ketchup as #1 condiment) and guacamole..... remember the reports saying jalapenos gave you e-coli not too long ago? It's always something but it's all protectionism if you ask me.....
I will continue making guacamole (I'm making some today) but I make my own chips as they are way better than any bag chips, and include peppers in my food (very high in anti-oxidants and good to loose weight and I'm trying), as far as salsa goes I also make my own, usually with Habanero peppers, tomato, garlic, onion and cilantro... Yummy! No problems there either.....
I made a bowl of guacamole just yesterday with my daughter. It was fun and easy to make. Didn't have to worry about it going brown - my family ate it all up at dinner.
Yes today it's the Salsa and Guacamole and tomorrow...wait for it.....it will be the tortillas, and then the fajitas......but I say a regular dose of Patron will cure anything that crawls up yours....CDC
Wow, everytime you turn around there is some FOOD ALERT out there. Just in todays local paper a recall on a brocolli salad. When I went to the market on Friday there were signs and tags in various parts of the meat dept for a recall on some chicken. What the heck is happening? Of all the modern technology in handling and transporting food we hear and have more outbreaks in our food than ever before. WTF is going on??
Best solution for this guacamole situation is make your own!! Go to the local public market or PCC store and buy the ingredients fresh and make your own, no worries!!!
This is nothing but a reflection of the complete deregulation of the food industry by USDA-FDA (both). Both agencies were gutted and are nothing but paid whores for the industries they are supposed to be regulating. The best profit point for the industry is to kill only a limited number of people every year - usually children and the weak, so it is kinda like lions culling the herd...
This is funny. If this is so then why don't people in Mexico (where guacamole, avocado slices and chips are made every day and consumed even on street carts) die or get sick like this?
Food born illnesses are rampant in Mexico. Nice try.
This is nothing but a reflection of the complete deregulation of the food industry by USDA-FDA (both).
You of course have never been outside of the USA. otherwise, you would know our food system is one of the safest in the world. if we took every military person in the USA and turned them into food inspectors we would still only be able to test a small part of the food entering the food system. Only a fool thinks we could test every batch of food and inspect every producer/processor on a regular basis. Since you seem tot hink that what does it make you?
I have been outside the US, been to Latin American, 6 times, Europe, plus even went to the middle east (although, that one wasn't by choice, military) and the only time ever got sick was in Saudi Arabia, me (and my entire squad as well) and the bathroom were good friends for almost a month.
Fact of the matter is, we all die from something eventually ... so despite the premise of this article, not going to give up the salsa, lol.
It is true there illness in their food and water. (Montazuma's revenge) That is why they are all mucho loco hombres. They eat the contaminated salsa and quacamole and start shooting each other or are they shooting each other over drugs. Must be the salsa I had last night it affected my memory.
I agree with you Chris that not every batch of prepared food can be inspected....but very little inspection is taking place period. In my state the county is responsible for restaurant inspections, but with the economic downturn the inspectors were dismissed. As a result, restaurants are going three years without any true oversight! Three YEARS!!!!!!
Tourists that go to Mexico get sick not only from the food but from the massive quantities of alcohol (with ice) they consume and the CHANGE of bacteria that they are used to. Ask tourists who come to the US if they don't get sick (they do).... your system is not used to the local bacteria.
Eat yogurt whenever you travel and you won't need all the meds. And try not to consume so much alcohol.
the thing is that restaurants save their left over guacamole and dont save it well... so it gets conaminated... avocado gets rotten quick after being cut, so thats what happens... also when it comes to salsa, you have to have a strong stomach duh! i love avocado/ guacamole... always eat it... lol jk.. but darn it is good...! :D BS on everything else this article is stating...
Avocado oxidizes (turns brown). If you add a little lime juice to it (a few drops), stir it in well, the color comes right back. Now that's not to say that I'd save it for days, but fresh guacamole will keep in the fridge for a day. Keep in stored in an airtight container. Put plastic wrap tighly over the top of the guac (right in the stuff) before putting the lid on the container.
Your second post is even more stupid (and irrelevant) than the first one - if perhaps a little less racist. Rather than telling everyone else to get a grip, perhaps you should get a clue.
Goodness gracious, I can't believe all the ignorant comments on here. I hope all of you blaming the immigrants and praising Arizona get food poisoning from your beloved American food----i'm sure that's never caused anyone to get sick *sarcasm*
Food poisoning causes more than the runs, you idiot. Like fever, chills, and vomiting for up to 4 days. Believe me, I've had it and it aint no fun. So I CARE!
And so a Republican gets food poisoning and must decide if having government regulate such things is a good thing now. I hope the entire Republican Party and their various goofy offshoots get food poisoning and have an "ah-ha" moment.
dont give OB any ideas. Now he can pardon all the illegals, have them make salsa and guacamole, let it sit in a warm place for a few hours and feed it to not only the republicans but anyone who dosent support his communist ways. And by the way 1unemployedvet, if Ob had his way there wouldnt be an unemployment line to stand in!! He would do away with it! However as a Vet my hat goes off to you for your servive to OUR country!
Lawd!! Something is going to cause my death. Be it my cell phone, my food, alcohol, the sun,the air, my car, plastics, paint, too much sleep or too little sleep
if nothing is safe anymore....think I'll just have some guacamole & salsa, while drinking a beer, talking on my cell phone, in the sun, on top of my car, sitting in a plastic lawn chair, and breathing air...oops! I may need a nap!!
I can think of worse ways to go. When God wants ya, he is gonna take ya. Be it by cell phone or salsa!!!!!!!!
I think you should tie some shiny colorful balloons to your lawn chair in celebration. Defy the doomsday sayers...live dangerously...who knows, maybe a freak wind will come along & take you for a ride...
you forgot lettuce, other than that, I totally agree.....o yea fireworks too lol
some places actually cancelled due to the fact that fireworks are now considered an atmospheric pollutant...but that was CALIFORNIA..not cancelled here in VT............KEEP ON RESPONDIN'
Can MSNBC or this journalist/source provide the full picture: In order, what are the top 25 culprits of food poisoning in the US and the respective percentages - say over the last year, 5 years, 10 years?
So, now you need to do some math. What is the ratio of Restaurant visits to Illness outbreaks? Roughly 844,000 food establishments serving 54 Billion (with a 'B') meals in the United States annually. Average of 76 Million (with an 'M') cases of food poisoning annually. 1 in 1400 meals results in food poisoning. (0.14% chance). Of those 1 in 25 are caused by the awesomeness that is Guac and Salsa. That turns out to be a 1 in 35,000 chance that you will become sick by eating Guac and Salsa. EAT UP!!!! Journalists are Jack Asses!
you didnt finish, you didnt mention that 35 million people in the world eat this stuff every day.times 7 days a week times 365 days a year. That comes to 2,255,000 sick people a year.
I survived 25 years of eating street food (dirty water dogs, fried rat on a stick, knishes of indeterminate age, etc.) and many, many visits to Chinatown and sleazy diners at 4 AM. I only recall getting sick once a quarter or so, and the only time I was in Mexico I got sick just once. I think I'm pretty immune to most food-borne illnesses anyway, so I will keep eating this because it all tastes so damn good. So I get the trots once in a while, or maybe some projectile vomiting. Involuntary bulimia is how I look at it, so maybe I don't get fat so fast. The hysteria about food in this country is getting ridiculous, and if you're that paranoid, then grow your own vegetables, raise your own livestock, and never leave home. I'm sure it will all be worth it to you in the end.
SquackMan - say that if/when you or a relative have a child who dies a painful death - my sister lost her 8 year old to a bad case of stomach poisoning and many children have died from e-coli in burgers, etc. Remember that? If not, look it up.
Great take your wife out for mexican food and get charged with poisoning her!
I only eat guacamole I make. just don`t trust other places, mayo either.Almost makes me puke when they mix the dry yukkie crap around the top of the container/tub in the fresh! ,how many times a day do they do that?
It's called "going green" with projectile vomiting. Swiss cheese and guacamole, aka holey-mole [Fred G Sanford]. I eat at a Chinese restaurant which, my friend says, never takes out any garbage yet I've not been sick. While in Taegu, Korea in the Army, I ate everything the locals ate. I used 2 chopsticks in each hand as I was still a growing boy then. Fish head soup [extra tentacles, please] with sides of rice, tofu and seaweed is great. Top it all off with beer and a yummy yobosayo for dessert. Seeing a skinned dog tied on the back of a bicycle going to market will give you the munchies chop chop.
It must be another fiendish plot by those wicked illegal immigrants from Mexico.
(sarcasm, in case you didn't recognize it)
WHHOOOO CCAAARREES!!!! I loooovveee guacamole, salsa, and chips. Much rather get the runs from eating Tostitos salsa than getting fat followed by heart disease from good ol' American KFC.
do not touch my salsa...the guacamole you can have...
this is hilarious but on a serious note one of the two local mexican joints in my town was caught by a health inspector, they were pouring the remaining salsa containers left by customers back into the main batch in the kitchen, now thats some serious double dippin, and if lil billy is sick odds are all who ate his dippins is sick also, then ask yourself have you ever seen them emptying those salsa containers, nope most mexican joints block out the entire kitchen, they know you won't stay if you see whats goin on behind those walls
Big Biggot at heart it came out.
There has also been past stories about restaurants besides mexican, 'recycling' bread back out to the tables.
hey white sucks i bet you when u go to mexico u eat alot guacamole DUUUMMM
only a fool would go to Mexico....and yes i know..we have lots of fools...bu not as many as before...like me, i will never go back...why would i.... been there done that...but if you really need to know what its like just go to California...its not hard to find some 3rd world towns in ca.
WHOAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And all this time I thought the runs were from the jalapenos, habaneros that I ate raw!
nooooooooooo, what comes from the jalapenos & habaneros is the burn, ouch!!!! LMAO
Say it ain't so...not Guacamole, not salsa...
Moral of the story is, "Don't dance Salsa while eating guacamole".
Now.. this makes sense :)
lol
Food poisoning....hmmmmm????
Talk to the Corn Industry. They only difference is that the corn industry kills you slowly.
This is funny. If this is so then why don't people in Mexico (where guacamole, avocado slices and chips are made every day and consumed even on street carts) die or get sick like this?

all u need to do is add a little vinegar to salsa and it will take care of the ecoli and enhance the taste also.
Try lemon instead, better flavor...

We're gonna die?
if you stop eating you could starve to death...so I'd keep eating the salsa...
dogstyle...read and learn on Newsvine. Obama's gonna kill us.
Knew someone sooner or later would blame either Obama or Bush!
It is true there illness in their food and water. (Montazuma's revenge) That is why they are all mucho loco hombres. They eat the contaminated salsa and quacamole and start shooting each other or are they shooting each other over drugs. Must be the salsa I had last night it affected my memory.

One more reason that Arizona was right about enacting SB1070!!!!
Well that was just a stupid comment.
Really?
Scary the way some people think.
Dan, you're a tool.
Dan, you should be more worried about your ignorance and not about the salsa and guacamole.
Racist Dan! ha, ha, ha! Too funny!
Did you ever learn the difference between "apple and oranges"
Your post is pretty stupid.
You responders probably think the US was invaded by martians the night of the H G Wells broadcast. Get a grip!!
Way to go Arizona! Keep them salsas guacamola commando's out of our resturants and our lives.
Wow, Dan.

And so a Republican gets food poisoning and must decide if having government regulate such things is a good thing now. I hope the entire Republican Party and their various goofy offshoots get food poisoning and have an "ah-ha" moment.

hell is there any thing that does not cause food poisoning anymore?
Glad I never ate either of them.
I cry for your lack of experimentation, unless you are getting freaky in bed, then never-mind.
