My Doc took me off Avandia over two years ago! Based on reports of patients having heart attacks. Can't believe there is still a debate. Must be a substantial payoff from some Big Pharma lobbyist somewhere
FDA as a Government (owned and paid 4 by the common people) institution has failed. They use the money from the common taxpayers to weild autocratic rule that appears to be independent & neutral but apparently and obscurely is ruled and run by the great multinational corporations that own the Senate and the Supreme court. We are doomed : (
I have type 2. I went on a raw food eating source(70-80%)and my system is stabilized better than it was when I wastaking shots and visiting the farm--hospitals-- every month. The more I stay away from Kaiser the heathier I become.
Clinical trials are paid for by the company who developed the drug. These tests are SUPPOSED to be validated and supervised by FDA employees, but a lot of the brass in that agency used to work for big pharma, or hope to work there one day, for really big bucks.
Just another bought and paid for government agency in our corrupt banana republic's capital.
BTW, in case you did not know this, Mark McLellan was Bush's pick to head the FDA after he was the head lawyer for the American Pharmaceutical Association. They just loved the way he streamlined (shortened) the drug approval process, which has led directly to a number of recalls of drugs that actually killed people. And yes, his brother was Scott McLellan, Bush's press secretary.
Okay, so when will the commercials be on TV asking me to sign up for the lawsuit against the makers of Avandia? I could really use some sort of substantial payoff right about now.
I could spit nails when I think what the drug companies get away with in this country. My family has been devastated by a prescribed drug, which the FDA checked into using Merkk's own data. Go figure, they found nothing. They knew that Singulair was linked with suicidal tendencies for years, but did the doctors know? Or the pharmacist? Or the half a dozen specialists that we sought while looking for an answer? They quietly changed the package insert and trusted that users wouldn't notice. I never used to read packaging more than my first use of anything.
Not one lawyer will go near the case against them. The media dropped it the story almost immediately. More people will die or become "Psychotically depressed" and not know what's happening to them. Children, once normal and happy will become inexplicably depressed and have trouble in school. I hope all the money these people are making off duping the public, is sufficient to buy them that condo in the nether-world.
Why isn't there a system in place for doctors and pharmacists to access these types of byproduct symptoms? Why did I have to call everyone involved to say that the majority of the symptoms were gone within a week of coming off the drug? We lost years, other people will not be so lucky.
There should not be any question in their minds, If it looks bad - stop it don't debate it. Even 1 death is not acceptable if it is due to this drug. Just ask them if they would give it to their loved ones. On the other hand - why aren't people stopping it them selves. They can ask their doctor for a replacement drug. There are plenty of them out there.
If all drugs that caused even 1 death were taken off the market, there would be no drugs left. You wouldn't even be able to take a simple aspirin or acetaminophen.
The question is whether or not the risk of death is inordinate in relationship to the benefit provided by the medication, and whether alternate medications are available.
There are many alternatives to Avandia. My doctor took me off it a number of years ago, as soon as the warnings came out.
WHAT A SURPRISE.....this (corruption allowing unsafe medidations) has been going on for YEARS.....one of the biggest scams is childhood vaccines.....although I'm NOT anti-vaccine, they can be quite harmful and cause all sorts of problems, upto and including death....VACCINES are mandated in most states, shoved right down your throat....and frequently deemed safe and effective by those same "experts" with vested interests....ALWAYS read your product insert.....not the one provided to you with the drug by the pharmacists, but the ONE they receive....and then, you still keep in mind that even the information THEY receive comes from the products' source!
You are so right, "shot in reno"...if we keep these drugs from people that will dare to take the risk because its so much more worth the gamble(and a very small one at that)than living with diabetes and the destruction it does to ones body!
If it works...USE IT!
Make us sign a waiver or whatever first, but give it to the millions that need it so much!
FDA has long been an organization that chooses a collaborative, almost incestual relationship with Pharma. This isn't completely bad, but it does raise a conflict of interest. The regs they are charged with enforcing get dumbed down because they entertain arguments from the industry that fly in the face of doing what is safe and appropriate for patients. Drugs hit the market with only 33% efficacy - so one in 3 that take it will actually benefit - the rest could even be harmed by it.
Pharma can't police itself any more than oil can - or banking. We need the enforcers to enforce, not "collaborate".
If Avandia is that Risky too take take it off the market or put warning labels on it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Avandia already carries what is referred to as a "black box" warning.

1 death is certainly acceptable. Everything is a trade off of safety vs convenience.
Are you in favor of 5mph speed limits everywhere? It would make the roads a lot safer, but at a huge inconvenience.

After the FDA people get their money from big pharma, the drug will remain.
