This sounds very promising. I really hope the studies go well. My mother died a slow and horrible death because of this horrible disease. I helped take care of her for 5 years and it hurt so much when she did not even know me. Thank you so much for working on this slow killer. My dad had it too so I am naturally worried that I might get it. I am a 58 year old male with a kidney transplant, PAD, type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea and bell's palsy. As bad as these are I feel that Alzheimer's is worse than all of them together.
I hope this comment is not a stab in the back to people trying to fight this terrible disease. My mom is 2 and has had this disease for about 5 years. I am so excited about this study. I hope they find a cure very soon.
Israel, you didn't read the article. Research has shown that people with alzheimer's have lower insulin in the brain. When you are affected by this disease, it won't be a comedy act for you. Your time will come, and you better hope that there is progress in treatment at that moment.
I wasn't making a joke, I was wondering who comes up with these ideas... I don't know where you people inferred a comedic reference from that statement, but ok. Go ahead & judge, fly off the handle even.
I did read the article, & am curious as to how sniffing differs from injecting. You can all take your attitudes & shove them.
It all gets into the bloodstream, right? So genius... enlighten this poor ignorant wretch on how a different method of delivery creates a different outcome. & what exactly does my name have to do with anything? What are you 12?
You really think that someone incapable of injecting themselves is going to be unsupervised? They have in-home healthcare, nursing homes, hospice, etc. to take care of them. You can go ahead & post some snappy comeback or whatever you like, but I'm about to stop tracking this story, & ignore your comments, so have at it tough guy.
Google Urine Therapy to find the 4000 year old cure for over 142 illness of the human body. Check out the original pharmaceutical laboratory you carry with you everyday. It's so easy you won't believe it. It even grows hair.
just the ability to think positive, that will cure any desease. it's hard because there is always someone ready to bring you down when you are up, but you need to be able to recharge yourself with positive thoughts. thats why prayer and bible reading is very helpful, and it's also very powerful to be a very helpful person to others, with truth and kindness.
Interesting!! I have what some call type 1.5 diabetes. My pancreas was damaged during a appendix operation, so I supplement its meager output with insulin. I also play tennis, and to improve my mental functioning during a match, I often juice up my insulin a little. It seems to work well.
This is great progress, i lost my mother and aunt to this dreadful disease. my siblings, myself and cousins are deathly affraid that we will succumb to alzhemiers.
This is insane. Insulin is not a toy to be played with. It might work for the short-term, but the health effects over the long-term just how devastating is it? And tell me, when I took my class on Alzheimers, the only REAL way to assure that it is Alz is autopsy, but that was 10 years ago. There are so many causes of dimentia, and the newer groups just seem more than happy to lump it into one category. What difinitive test are they using to concretely say that it is Alzheimers before subjecting people to this? Alzheimers is not a good diagnosis for everyone, but people must make certain that it is the correct diagnosis and that the poor people are not just being catigorized for the sake of efficiency into one group.
You had a class on Alzheimer's? Congrats. Now practice medicine for 30 years before you say anything about it.
There a unique characteristics to each type of dementia, as well as biological tests to rule out some types of dementia. Using these guidelines, practitioners are able to make more definitive diagnoses than the doctor that said you had the flu.
This is interesting. I wonder if this delivery of insuline could help college students or people in professions that require a high degree of mental accuity. I am a full time college student working on a BS in nursing with plans to become a nurse anesthetist. I'm always looking for that extra mental boost. Currently I take Concerta (a form of Ritalin), various herbal supplements, and drink water all day. And yes... I have a legal script for the Concerta.
It is amazing the things the VA is accomplishing. They have a powder that rejuvenates what every body part they use it on. They make replacement parts using a persons own DNA: skin, bone, cartilage, bladders, heart valves and others. The VA Hospital system is the highest rated medical care system in the country.
"The VA Hospital system is the highest rated medical care system in the country."
Not by anyone on this planet, sadly. We owe far more to our veterans than we are delivering and more importantly, funding. The VA Medical System is cash-poor, resource-starved, and too often staffed by docs who couldn't cut it in real world (i.e. academic) medicine. No doubt the reforms undertaken by President Clinton in 1996 have begun to pay off in some areas, and satisfaction rates - as measured by the VA - are up. But "outcomes" - the success rates of the treatments they offer - are all too often far worse than those found in major university teaching hospitals, the gold standard for medical care. Why? We owe our veterans much more than they are now receiving.
Just as an FYI, per US News and World Report yesterday, the top ten hospitals in the US are Johns Hopkins, the Mayo Clinic, the Massachusetts General, the Cleveland Clinic, UCLA Medical Center, New York-Presbyterian University Hospital, UC San Francisco, Barnes-Jewish Washington U in St. Louis, the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, and Duke University Medical Center. Not a VA Medical Center among them. Why not? We owe veterans no less.
The Brookings Institute, a right-wing Washington think tank, funded research (and a book) by one Phillip Longman some years ago reporting great improvements in the VA system. Few veterans agreed with the rosy picture he painted. Even more distressing, conditions at Army Medical facilities, Washington's Walter Read Hospital in particular, have been found to be even worse. This isn't to say that the VA isn't often trying hard - I give great credit to those VA staffers fighting against what must seem impossible odds to deliver quality care - but until they get the tools, which cost money and often times lots of it; something, by the way, no-one seems to want to spend, their shortcomings will only get worse.
It's wonderful to read about processes that may in time prove useful, like replacing limb function and bionic legs. No vet in need of these should be shortchanged. But the greater need, in terms of both numbers and potential costs to the VA and to society, is mental health care for returning Iraq and Afghan war vets. Relatively speaking, little to nothing (compared to the size of the problem) is being done to address, much less treat, their psychiatric conditions - a potential time bomb.
I sincerely wish I could agree with you, but for all the reasons I've listed and dozens more (regardless of whatever powder you reference) I can't.
In the last 18 months there has been a rebirth in the reforms started under President Clinton. New guidelines have resently been put in place to make it easier for psychologically injured vets to get the treatment they deserve. When President Obama came into office he state his support for funding the VA. He is keeping his word. In the last 18 months new buildings have ben built. In long Beach, Ca. they are stating to move into the new buildings already. I read an article, that the five top rating orginizations rated the VA the best health care system in America. The VA hosptals are paired with major medical universities. The artical refered to the pairing of that VA hospital with the univerity there.
The 10 best hospitals criteria was based on the number of specialities the hospitals had and their success rates. The VA doesn't need a pediatric cardiologist, etc. The care given to smokers(cancer, emphysema, and heart disease) and drug addicts and alcoholics has always been just as good as a major medical hospital. However, most of these folks go to the VA when they have nowhere else to go and have waited too long to seek help, so success rates aren't as high. (I am generalizing based on personal family experience.) The VA now does amazing thing to help rebuild bodies, minds are a little tougher...war always is dreadful, but brings about new medical procedures. Trauma care from Vietnam, blood tranfusions and antibiotics from WWII, plastic surgery and denistry from WWI....these folks do a great job and some marvelous research comes from the dedicated people there.
r u reffering to pixie dust? i saw something on that on american scientific(i think) & on oprah. this guy accidently cut off part of his finger. his brother who is researching this stuff, had him put this stuff on his finger daily. it wouldn't allow the wound to heal over but instead made it keep growing until he had a new finger. amazing!
Yes, it is refered to as pixie dust by the servicemen and vets. I saw where a man had much of the muscles in his uper leg blown away. They saved the leg by rejuvenating it.
It makes sense to me. I also have what is sometimes referred to as type 1.5 diabetes. I had a cyst on my pancreas the size of a softball. When I was finally diagnosed my blood sugar was 996. I`ve been on insulin ever since. I also can vouch for mhow screwed up your brain is when your sugar is that high. It is a form of dementia. Your brain definitely does not process things well. Confusion is common when your sugar is too low also. I knew all that from first hand experience but would have never thought of insulin levels having anything to do with Alzheimers. I guess that`s why they are scientists and I am not. Good job guys! I hope it is a breakthrough to a cure.
Even if the insulin up the nose isn't a cure it would be a great hope for slowing down the progression so that people could have a more positive note that the progression has been slowed thus giving more time to research and hopefully one day have a cure for dementia or totally being able to stop it before it ever shows a sign period of it in your system.
So happy to hear there is a "breakthrough" in dementia studies. It is true that it is very difficult to diagnose the difference between senile dementia and the big A. I tried inhaled insulin in a study about 12 yrs ago for my type 1 diabetes, the study was pulled, but I believe there has been some recent success. So, even if this doesn't work now, maybe there will some success in the future. To the person who thinks studies shouldn't be done on people....I would try almost anything to be rid of a chronic disease like diabetes and someone who is slowly losing their mind....what do they have to lose...their choice..it is a FATAL illness!
My dad has alzheimers and is in a nursing home for almost 10 years now, its a very terrible disease that affects the patient and family members beyond tears. Some of the idiots who post comments about cocaine and other disgusting things are just @!$%#s looking for attention which I hope they get in an appropriate way someday. The benefits of a super-low carb diet are just now coming into mainstream America. Insulin has a function in every fiber of our makeup when you look at cellular schematics. Once your pancreas has lost the ability to produce insulin, it's over. Elevated blood sugar is also linked to high blood pressure, high cholesterol, etc. Forget the "low fat diet" - low carb is the way to go. I am a carb addict like most other people, and it really is tough to get through "detox." I haven't been able to do it entirely yet. Since I have Alzheimer's, cancer, diabetes, etc. in my family, I feel the need to try. Worth checking out!
I am a 65 year old widower caring for my last remaining aging parent. My mother is 86 and for the last 5 years or so has been declining more and more into dementia. Though she has not been officially diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease she is exhibiting some of its symptoms. The only thing that is preventing her from wandering off is the fact that she has become physically very weak as well and can only move about with assistance.

Please see my artical in response to this condition and perhaps something to rule out. I would not suggest this, if I were not extremely concerned about this epidemic--and no matter how strange my proposal appears, I've written this artical due to the reality of my circumstances, and experiencing this with a Dr. that I had to personally place in an Alzheimer facitlity; she was the youngest in Calif--age 52 at the time. 10 years later, the bill is still paid to the institution, approx. 6,000 monthly. I've tested some others, recently and they tested postive. From what I understand, this is govern'mentally driven, an agenda--some document, experimental. I say, read my artical and you decide for yourself, after you research this information about these sinister, electromagnetic wepaonry/ technologies. At the very least you can rule this out, or know in addition what is happening.
And by the way, I've dedicated my Facebook to this cause, my wall on Facebook. This cause chose me, rather I would have never asked that I have my true experiences. My Facebook name is a political name: Demarche Freeman. You are welcome (Shepherd0886) to join the over 3,000 humans sharing insight as well as myself! This is a global epidemic, and although I have over 3,000 in my Facebook, I only pray that my Fcaebook is not censored, eventually. God bless all humanity!
First and foremost, I've read many of the comments, and I have to say, I wish this were a study that truly has merit, but as many other studies, a profit is made for the 'contribution' and moreover, medication on the market--for profit as well. Although these studies take place for however long, I'm going to propose a study here for any neurological condition.
Since some know, every 76 seconds a human is diagnosed with a form of dementia, I can safely say, this is not entirely happening due to an aging society. Perhaps, when I attended a conference in Davis, Ca. with regard to the new world order and' Eletromagnetic energy weapons', this subject will be taken into consideration. Dr. John Hall was not able to attend this and speak to the audiance, but his book still resonates at Amazon.com A new breed Satellite Terrorism in America (although I have the book, I'm not reccommending this book, rather I say research).
I attended this conference because I've been implanted by a huge, medical organization--and no matter where I go, a satellite is assigned to me, 24/7 streaming energy weapons (PAINFUL), upon my precious mind and body;! I'm only 52, forced to seek justice. Our bodies were scanned with special technology to detect these implants and the frequency range, specific to how the implant communicates with the assigned satellite, not costing anything, as the HAARP is unlimited energy to these satellites.
There is a home remedy to see if your love one, or for this matter any human you know and care about; take the foil out of your kitchen drawer, and I say this with all seriousness.Place a sheet on your head, as the head is the target. After 15 minutes remove the foil and place the foil to a great source of light, above, usually, checking for super tiny holes. If holes appear, you have been implanted by a medical organization or dental.
I'm seeking justice, and I'm hopeful this artical reaches many humans. Foil is a conductor and will evidence this invisible holocaust. In time, if this is not acknowledged and the implant removed, perhaps one will acquire any neurological condition as a result of these sinister, technolgical weaponry!
You can find me on Facebook (Demarche Freeman and learn more; I've dedicated my wall to this insight and information); and many other support groups on facebook, by typing implants and targeted individuals--not so individual, anymore, I can assure you of this. Be courageous and study for yourself, research and fact check what I've shared.

I heard sniffing cocaine may help ease Pain.

My Mom is 52
I want to know who comes up with these ideas. "Hmmm, let's sniff some insulin & see what that does!"
Are you for real? Do you think this is funny? Insulin is a far cry from cocaine.
What difference does it make who comes up with the idea or what the idea is?
If you would have read the entire article, you would have seen the correlation between Alzheimer's and reduced insulin amounts in the brain.
Israel, you didn't read the article. Research has shown that people with alzheimer's have lower insulin in the brain. When you are affected by this disease, it won't be a comedy act for you. Your time will come, and you better hope that there is progress in treatment at that moment.
