When it comes to Safe Staffing ratios, there is one question that should be asked of Every Incoming Patient- Upon Their Admission to any Inpatient Hospital. That question is: How many other patients Besides Yourself- do you want your nurse responsible to care for while you are here?
I seriously doubt that most patients/families would choose a number that would exceed 5 in an inpatient setting. It is sad and ridiculous for nurses to have to have Union representation to uphold that point. As an RN, I wouldn't want to be exploited by either Bean Counters trying to improve their bottom line by running skeleton crew shifts, OR by having to pay Union dues 'Protection Money' to get the most basic common-sense measures implemented.
So far I'm not sure that either Whitman or Brown could adequately represent me. Both of them appear to have the financial interests of powerful lobbyists as their primary consideration.
