"Great Value" - isn't that the private label of the great and powerful "WALMART"?? Why isn't the name of the chain that received this product in the story? It would make for an easier recall.
Pretty much anyone affected would know that Great Value is Walmart's store brand, so mentioning the store name is kind of pointless. How would it make the recall any easier?
That would be where the numbers come in you check your bag if it says great value. The name of the retailer would be nice but since it wasn't mentioned I am sure there are other ways to find out who it was.... maybe the Tyson website?
americanwife, reread my second sentence. I thought it was perdue brand label with "great value" being some sort of marketing ploy or possibly a size thing (like "Family Pack" on other meat packages or Fun Size" candy bars"). Just reading the article, it wasn't immediately clear that they were talking about walmart's store brand, or that the "single retailer" was walmart. If I didn't read the comment's I would have dismissed it as being probably a local supermarket chain like King's or Giant. (I don't buy chicken nuggets so really it makes little difference personally, but I commented because I agree it's unclear and the reporter is just covering his ass for some stupid reason.)
I had the same thoughts as Mr Robert the Fish. I have some frozen chicken patties (I checked - Banquet) in the freezer so I was wondering if I had to check. I don't shop at Walmart so I don't know their private label brands. I also may have had Purdue frozen chicken nuggets, strips or patties in the past few months. Now that I know that the recalled ones were sold at Walmart, I no longer need to worry about this recall. (just the next one)
its pointless in this story to mention walmart cause they have nothing to do with the company manufacturing crap, they just put it on the shelf, blaming walmart of course solves nothing, but thats the american way anymore point fingers, complain, make sure you pointed your finger and bam blame the wrong place for lack of final inspection that took place at another facility and company entirely. so all together now Perdue is to blame, I will give this much, walmarts name should have been provided so you know if this affects your fridge, to even remotely try to cover there name is rediculous considering they're the only chain involved
its pointless in this story to mention walmart cause they have nothing to do with the company manufacturing crap, they just put it on the shelf...
If Walmart or any other retailer puts this crap on their shelf, then they should be identified in the story! Doesn't mean anyone is blaming Walmart.
Any time there is a recall of food which affects people's health, any and all pertinent information should be provided to consumers so that there is no mistake as to what is being recalled. I have, on one ocassion, been to a store where a recalled product was still on the shelf - apparently 'they hadn't gotten to it yet'. I'm sure this situation had the potential to cause confusion for shoppers who may have believed that this particular store was selling a product which was safe, but in fact had been recalled.
Whether this product was sold exclusively in one store or twenty stores - ALL retailers of said product should be named - strictly to protect the consumer.
It also could be because of the veggie libel laws that make it a crime to cause a food company to lose sales. It doesn't matter if what you say is true. Just watch Food, Inc. Even if a big agro/food industrial company has no case against you, they have lots of money to spend on lawyers to make you go broke defending yourself from something that is at best frivolus. (I can't spell)
Even more hysterical is how one company is marketing their dead birds with natural hormones for the vegetarian? LMAO
Obviously, Walmart owns/controls someone/something or else their name would be in the article. Gotta love the power of the the big corporations. Their bottom line takes priority over the consumer.
Seriously, though, anyone who ever shopped at a Wal-Mart should instantly recognize this "off label" product. Just as the actual product will only say that it was manufactured "FOR" Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., it will NEVER say the real name of the company that manufactured it, just some shell company intended to keep their name out of it.
Blue, is the prefered color of Gloves,Bandaids,Aprons,Arm Protector sleeves, that are used while Processing Chicken. This is because it is readily seen against the raw meat. It would be more rubbery when being used, but more like Plastic when heated(cooked). It would seem to me that some Employees were not doing their job that day, when they should have been Inspecting thousands of pounds an hour on the conveyor belts.
Blue Gloves & Arm Protectors are the most common things to go though the prossesing machinery (every other day actually) and should have been caught by one of the the Quality Control observers, but perhaps that job was cut out by managment, to save money.
And Yes, I know how it works, worked for Two Chicken Prossesing Companies, Gold Kist & Pilgrims Pride, Proccesing 250,000 lbs a Day. Both sell to Walmart & Publix supermarkets, along with Perdue.
Actually, it should have been 125,000-175,000 Chickens a day,(my mistake, old age,LOL) at an average of 4-5 lbs each, 1,250,000 lbs a day.( I left of the Million) we had 1200 people working there. With only 600 illegal alliens. Not bad for a FL. Plant.
I find it funny how people post on these sites that really don't have a clue . If the goverment would make people work instead of sit on their butts drawing welfare then the illegal aliien problem would take of itself . The fact is jobs in chicken and turkey plants are hard . Some people think they are too good to do them . So they get welfare that working people pay for . It would be nice to think that everything going through a plant is always 100% . That will never happen . The food processing industry is the most sanitary in the world .(especially the chicken and turkey) Consider this (free range chicken =barnyard chicken -people who buy organic are suckers-just paying more for the same thing
The goverment should make them tell us where this chicken was sold. Maybe they are one of the President's friend and he told them they don't have to. Pretty much like getting his college papers and birth cirtificate.
bluedragon1971 - some of us don't shop at Walmart. "Great Value" sounds like package advertising. Kind of like "new and improved" or "fair and balanced"
The news has been full of articles about improving the safety of the food chain and recalls, yet this article does not include the name of the retail chain! Poor reporting!
Chefaz, you are so right! Parts is parts, you know...
Seriously, though, if you don't know where "Great Value" products are sold, you must be living on another planet. It is ridiculous to try to "hide" the identity of the retailer in the first place! That should be the FIRST piece of information a consumer gets when there is a recall.
Well that really sucks. I bought the Tyson brand name package once and it was moldy. They need to step up to the plate when it comes to quality control.
Pretty much anyone affected would know that Great Value is Walmart's store brand, so mentioning the store name is kind of pointless. How would it make the recall any easier?
I often shop at different groceries stores for sales. Am I supposed to keep track of which brand came from which store. Mentioning the store name would serve more persons interested in keeping their family safe from forgein materials in our foods. If I had bought the recalled item it would make it easier for me to return the item and collect a refund or replacement of the affected product.
Ever notice the recall notices go out AFTER most folks have had to eat them or toss them out because they "tasted funny" or you found a bone or "something"? Found a claw in a chicken McNugget once and all I got was a sorry from the restaurant...didn't even offer to refund my cost since I already ate most of them. Needless to say do NOT eat there anymore.
Chicken Feet, are one of the Most profitable parts of the chicken, feet are washed & scrubbed so that the yellows skin removed, inspected for Ammonia burns(from their feces) , packaged and Exported to China & Japan where the 20 lb bags sell for big dollars as Delicacies.
You should have saved the claw for a snack later that night,LOL.
Of course recall notices go out after consumers have the product. How else would it be a recall? When things are found before shipping, they don't issue a recall notice.
It's gradually getting to the point of what is safe to eat now, whether it's Livestock or Vegetable.
We dont eat chicken anymore, I am litterally dead scared of the stuff. Only this last week we heard of problems with Iceberg Lettuce. So, whether you are Vegetarian or otherwise, it's probably gonna get you, what ever it maybe.
Yes, I thought it quite 'strange' that the report didn't say "WalMart". I don't 'buy' any meats from Wally World but I do eat it because they donate to the pantry that I 'visit'. They are about the only ones that give us meats, broken bags of potatoes, and some usable products. I don't trust their meat sources, especially the 'rolls of ground beef', which for YEARS has been a source of contaminants (all rolls, not just from WM). What I don't like is there are a LOT of bad products out there & recalls still for pet foods but you SELDOM hear of very many on your local news. They'd rather focus on Obama, Blagoyovich (sp?), and not worry about our health issues just so they can squeeze in 30 min of 'news' (which is not nearly long enough for important issues). Oh yes, and let's not forget all the 'darn' commercials, which can be EVERY 8 MIN now, not just 2 min every 15 min as in years past. You can sign me JudyK in Iowa.
The entire Purdue Company should be recalled by the FDA as a matter of extreme cruelty to chickens and whatever else Purdue markets. They contract everything out just to keep their little hands out of the muck, and then glorify themselves on TV ads as the best thing ever to happen to chickens.
The entire Purdue family should get infected with that blood disease that just doesn't stop.
Perdue went through this about 15 years ago, "Flash Freezing is not considered "Frozen" by the FDA, so even though chicken is processed & "Flash Frozen" ({minus}-40 degrees F.) for an hour or hour & a half. It Can and Does get sold as "Fresh,Never Frozen" [take that up with the USDA] and can then be taken from the storage racks,[kept at 24-28 degrees] processed again[re-packaged], and then sold as Fresh. Even though after that it goes Back into the Cold storage racks to wait untill it is shipped to a DistrubutionTerminal {more cold storage}for a day or a week, and then be distributed to Stores to be sold.
Most Meat you eat, [Veggies too, except they are not flash frozen, simplied "Chilled" ] are shipped to your Local Supermarket the Same way.
Did you realy believe that there were large "Farms & Meat/Poultry Processing Plants" within a few hours drive of every Supermarket in the US.? The plants in Florida/Georgia send trucks to Canada weekly. Yes, they are "refrigerated", at 25-28 degees F. for the 2 day drive. Fresh-Never Frozen. Perdue won his law suit and that was a Long time ago.
Now "FROZEN" Chicken is a whole new ball of wax, LMAO Most Meat keeps Two Years, Fish, only One. The Processors know this.
How would it make the recall any easier?
because it's pansy assed reporting.
I was wondering at first which company since it said single chain (thinking great value was some sort of marketing ploy rather than the store brand).
Plus it can help because it says more directly, "if you bought your nuggets at walmart, check for this product number and report it".
Instead it's all hushed, like you have to read between the lines to figure out if you have plastic filled chicken nuggets.
That would be where the numbers come in you check your bag if it says great value. The name of the retailer would be nice but since it wasn't mentioned I am sure there are other ways to find out who it was.... maybe the Tyson website?

The chicken is half plastic anyway. That's why there are so many fat boys with boobs.
Soy and Chicken are making America GAY.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.
They don't say Walmart because the reporter is a tool.
It also could be because of the veggie libel laws that make it a crime to cause a food company to lose sales. It doesn't matter if what you say is true. Just watch Food, Inc. Just wait, I will get sued for this post.
Even more hysterical is how one company is marketing their dead birds with natural hormones for the vegetarian? LMAO
Obviously, Walmart owns/controls someone/something or else their name would be in the article. Gotta love the power of the the big corporations. Their bottom line takes priority over the consumer.
:( Nothing new here. Just move along
They don't say Walmart because, Perdue doesn't want to advertise that you can buy their exact product cheaper there! Same hooker different dress!
Pretty much anyone affected would know that Great Value is Walmart's store brand, so mentioning the store name is kind of pointless.
I agree.
i always thought that chicken nuggets were foreign material.
LMAO!!! Parts is parts, you know....

Just as the actual product will only say that it was manufactured "FOR" Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., it will NEVER say the real name of the company that manufactured it, just some shell company intended to keep their name out of it.
If we would just finally secure our borders, all this foreign material wouldn't be an issue.

where was the production & packaging of the products...and that all important function...quality control---yeah
And I've tried to tell folks that the floppy part of a chicken back is not something to be eaten in the first place...
That's the least of Tyson's problems: http://www.torturedbytyson.com/

you should be glad that food is donated to the pantry . i wouldn't complain about free food if i didn't have any
why would anyone want to eat a chickens balls anyway?
I don't buy any meat from Walmart anyway, so I don't have to worry.
Use Walmart's name MSN...
It is a news article why assume, that the people you are to be reporting to, know all of the particulars of whose store brands are named what.
We report You decide...oh wait that's the other guy's....

Chicken nuggets...the "other" mystery meat!
Chicken nuggets are made out of good breast meat-safer than eating a free range (barnyard chicken) chicken
HA. Hey Larry, you have no idea what you're eating!
All the Mexicans go to Wal-mart so who cares
You can eat one year old chicken??? Even with the serious amount of processing that "nuggets" must go thru, that's the biggest surprise to me!
