I say BRAVO to these wonderful people who are trying so hard to give back to our wounded soldiers! This story made me cry, i can only imagine how it is to go thru all of this. XOXOXOXO to you all!
I wish I could help them with improved methods. Why shouldn't we be able to grow new skin and put it over an ear prosthesis permanently under the skin? It wouldn't be easy, but I think it should work.
Bravo to our president that keeps on sending men and woman to a war that could be approached with Schools instead of tanks, books instead of bullets and love instead of hate. But why? There is no pride on that, right? In the mean time, some will have to leave in pain forever. Is it worth it?
Uh, what? How are you going to blame the president for inheriting 2 wars that have been ongoing for nearly a decade? At least he has a timetable for getting our troops out. No matter who would be president right now we'd still be over there and if you think otherwise, you're just plain ignorant.
And, I believe the words you want are WOMEN instead of WOMAN and LIVE instead of LEAVE. Hard to make a point when you can't exercise basic spelling skills. Maybe you need some of that schooling you speak of.
But I agree with everyone else, glad to see our heroes getting the care they deserve.
Hi Capoeira, wars are useless and senseless and Bush was too stupid and arrogant to fully understand what he started. Even so, our service men and women deserve the very best, and we owe them all the help they can get at the govt's expense to return to a reasonably normal life.
Our American service people earn and deserve the best care the world can provide. They are all true patriots and heroes. I sincerely hope that all of our folks who are serving, whether well or injured, know that most of us honor and respect them on a daily basis. For those injured, please know that you are in my thoughts. Get well soon.
The determination of these wounded soldiers returning from war are such an inspiration to me; I hope that our tax-dollars are used to give these courageous souls everything they could possibly need.
This is an awesome gift that they deserve. Whatever it takes for them to have as much of a normal life as possible, it needs to be done no matter what the cost.
I met some wounded warriors last year in Iraq, they were touring Iraq, motivating the troops. These guys are the bravest guys I have ever met, their wounds ranged from missing hands, feet and limbs to severe burns and missing eyes. I had a tear in my eye as I shook hands with these guys, who not only survived near-fatal injuries, most of whom lost comrades in the incident when they were hit, but want to continue to serve in any capacity that allows them to make a difference. My hats off to these Brave Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines.
I fully agree. I recently read a book by David Finkel called "The Good Soldiers." The sense of duty, honor and bravery described in this book really left an impression on me. What was really remarkable to me was how young most of these guys are. I no longer support the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, but, I will always support the men and women who wear the uniform.
jtav, this discussion is about brave troops and their recovery, this is not a discussion in defense of the freshman senator charlatan interloper who has currently bought the keys to the White House.
But since you started it, this man has no time-table for withdrawal, he is over his head, and he has no idea. Firing General McChrystal was a good way to support the Taliban, as it reduces moral and makes us look weaek. He did it for nothing more than pure hubris, to show he is the HNIC. This is convenient as he was raised as a Muslim, has kissed the feet of islam since the day he took office, and he now continues to ingratiate himself to islam.
People can no longer get away with the old "I support the troops, not the war", the troops that are sacrificing their life and limb believe in what they are doing, you cannot be wishy-washy on this subject. We need to support the war, this supports the troops just as much as waving a silly yellow flag. I am sickened by this liberal miasma that was once a great country.
freshman senator charlatan interloper? I think you meant duly, fairly elected President of the United States of America...
to show he is the HNIC? This simply shows that you're O.S.R.S.O.A.B, (figure that one out with that 3rd grade mentality of yours) with zero respect for a fellow american, who again let me state this clearly is the DULY and FAIRLY elected President of the United States. Lets have a little bet to see who will likely achieve more with his life and time... you or Mr. Obama? My money would not be on you...
HNIC? Really? What century did you fly in from? Let me guess, you heard that around the pig farm and just kept repeating it because you thought it sounded tough?
I think you meant duly, fairly elected President of the United States of America...
There might have been a time when this was true but now in this age of american idol and the like, all elections have become nothing more than a popularity contest. Sad, really.
These men and woman deserve the best of care because they put their lives on the line so we can have Freedom in this Country. Some people would do good by remembering this every time they bad mouth the President and the Government on the internet. This media has caused alot of negativism in this country and it doesn't make our soldiers very happy hearing this. They probably wonder why they are risking their lives for people that don't care about anything but being negative. I wouldn't blame them if they did, they need support and to here people talk proud of this country and for what it stands for to give them a reason for what they are doing.
Back again, I have to agree with John, James you are an ignorant SOB, that ones not hard to understand even without an education. If you are going to belittle and degrade people the least you can do is get your facts straight. President Obama is not Islamic and does not study Islam, that's more of the crap you uneducated people listen to on FOX and keep perpetuating because you don't have a life to attend to. I think you should put your expertese to work and show us all how to run a country and how to fight a war and all the other problems you have to B--ch about. If you can't do that than STFU! I bet you can understand that one to.
This is a wonderful thing that is being done. I interned in a burn center years ago and saw first hand some of what burn patients go through. Some people will turn anything into a political rant-makes you wonder if that's all they are capable of talking about. Each to his own, I guess. I say yeah for those who are helping these soldiers!
This story is about helping honorable, courageous soldiers who sustained horrific injuries fighting a relentless war and in spite of that have bravely chosen to move forward with thier lives. It IS NOT about who didn't spell correctly, who's fault it is or who can say the nastiest thing . I'm sure they will be reading all these comments and know there's some that won't be so motivating. They are truly our countries shining stars . Please write things that will encourage and motivate . They have enough conflicting thoughts going through thier heads. This blaming, name calling and any other negetive remarks do not belong here.
What the military spends on new medical technology is a pittance compared to what they spend on defense and war. The recent Rutgers University for Regenerative medical research although funded with 100 million govt money, was about 20 years late in coming from the govt. It is amazing how long it takes the govt to get its act together along with the extremely slow treatment approvals by the FDA. This synergistic mud has been a cog in the wheel of progress for so many decades. By the time the public has access to treatments decades pass and millions suffer as a consequence. This Regenerative center should be funded with billions, not millions. I can imagine the pain and suffering that could be abated with new discoveries.
I was online last nite and googled a unit now serving in Afghanistan. Lord, gosh almighty! The next thing I knew I was viewing (and in) a terrific fire fight with the Talib!!! One soldier was slightly injured by a grazing round ... the exchange of gunfire and explosions (B-40's) and then the retalitory 105's for somewhere just shook me!!! I slid a little back into Vietnam as the realism appeared (NCO Head-cam) that I was with these guys on patrol! Anytime you average Joe's want to feel like You Are There ... drop the game controls ... and google some of these units in Afghanistan! Good luck to Our Troops ... Be Safe ... Come Home Soon!!!

The last 2 words of this article ("he smiled") are the ones that matter the most. God bless them all.
