Get over the whole breast is best thing already...my son lost more than 10% and my milk didn't come in until over a week after delivery...so I said screw it and fed him formula. Strange...he's never been on antibiotics or had an ear infection! We used to grow our own crops and beef...get real. Today there are products manufactured to have the perfect balance of nutrition for a baby...sometime's mom's body is not. I was 37 when I gave birth and not overweight. There should also be a law or hospital policy to limit the lactation consultants prowling the halls who prey on tired women insisting they exclusively breast feed. This is not the middle ages any more...hence people are taller, stronger and live longer. Yet I don't know a single person who does more than "casual" gardening! The breast is best campaign points to women in 3rd world countries who HAVE to breast feed. OMG! I find that hilarious...breast feed if you want to or have to...but you certainly don't need to or should feel so pressured.
I am replying to the part that mentioned lactation consultants are needed to "help" people like me. I don't want help waiting to see if my bbs will do their job or not while my kid starves. I just want to go to the grocery store and pick up a can of formula and be left alone. If the milk isn't there or if you don't have a fat healthy baby (mine was healthy but he was so tall/long that he even looked a little lean as a newborn) then it's best not to wait and just feed the kid.
I agree completely. You're right, lactation consultants are not needed to help people like you. You won't let them. You have made up your mind not to listen and they should really stop wasting their time. It's easier and a lot better for everybody just to let you feed your child formula and move on to someone they can help. You're the one who is setting yourself up for all the extra work that comes with bottles and formula and missing out on the health benefits for yourself and your child. If that's what you want to do, they should leave you alone and let you do it.

You just confirmed what the article said an older mother (37) and milk took over a week to come in. That's exactly what it said.
