I had embolization about 5 years ago-- very happy with results. Definitely recommend to anyone for whom it's an option. Not possible in every case.

I had UAE about 7 years ago after many years suffering from several large fibroid tumors. In addition to prolonged heavy bleeding and pain, the fibroids caused me to have a distended abdomen and interfered with my ability to breathe deeply. This procedure made a huge difference in my quality of life. One night in the hospital and recovery at home for the next 7-10 days and I felt like a new person. I encourage anyone with fibroids to find out if UAE is an option for you.

I had UFE about 5 years ago. 15 hours in the hospital; one week recovery time. 4 out of 6 fibroids were practically gone within a couple months of the procedure. Symptoms (heavy periods, painful sex, etc) were gone with the first period. The other two fibroids continue to shrink as noted with each annual exam. I highly recommend this procedure to women. If your doctor recommends hysterectomy and not this procedure...find another doctor. I interviewed 5 OB/GYN's until I found someone who would work with me and the UFE specialist on the UFE. It's your body. Be aware of the alternatives to hysterectomy.
