Physically young is important, but you should maintain mental youth also. Ride a motorcycle, dance in the rain, skinny dip. Keep some adventure in your life and put that youthful body to use.
There really ought to be some rule or judgment about using the word "secrets" in headlines. Is there anyone - seriously, anyone at all - that really hasn't heard all this numerous times?
Staying young is not the same thing as not dying prematurely. Whoever wrote the title of this article failed Journalism 101. They might as well have called it Airline Bathroom Decorating Ideas.
so what if I exercise 2 hours a day, have a BMI of 12 and a 20 inch waist...oh and I'm a 30 year old anorexic substance abuser. oh, doesn't matter. cause the first three things are very important!
Lighten up, people! I still found the article useful - partly as a reminder and affirmation of things I'm doing right, and a few tidbits I didn't know. It was worth the 5 minutes - well summarized.
11 of 12. I'm getting there! The hardest one is getting enough sleep. Are you couch potatoes motivated by this article? I did'nt think so. Life goes on.
Don't take antioxidant supplements??? Based on ONE bogus study? Are they joking? Antioxidants are one of the keys to a long, healthy life.
Then they say, "Supplements aren't subject to rigorous toxicity studies, as pharmaceuticals are."
Oh, so supplements are dangerous and pharmaceuticals are safe???
100,000 people die every year from properly-prescribed and administered prescription drugs. That's not counting overdoses and mistakes. No one dies from taking supplements.
Is there any doubt that the drug companies own the FDA and the media?
You are way off.Taking supliments can help but, dont depend on them to give you a longer life. People that take to many supliments over time can and will cause dependency. Eat the rite foods and get take care of your body and mind.
What about sex??? Sex should be Number One even if it's not true. Everyone knows that you would sell more Web things (what-ever) if you have sex in it somewhere.
I think those of us who are friends of Bill W. are more likely to die if we DO drink once a day! Otherwise, I'm pretty good other than the exercise part-don't jump on me, I know what I need to do. My BMI is apparently 20.6.
I have seen many old people who are in their 90's and are active, happy people. The thing they all had in common was their outlook on life. Many of them read the funnies and had a sense of humor and didn't spend their days talking about how the world was going to hell and "in my day" blah, blah blah. Most of all they told me to find something everyday that was positive about myself or other people, and if I couldn't find anything, to practice a kindness. They said that being a positive person makes you younger, not botox. Anni
So true! I have had the pleasure of working with two teachers/associates who lived vital and active lives into their 90's. I agree with your observation as well. These two shared many traits in common:
1. A sense of purpose - they both continued to be active teaching, sharing and serving
Oh I absolutely love @timesfour comment! So true - we all need to laugh and smile and feel good and by finding purpose in our life, we can fill our inner spirit with happiness too. I really believe this is a great anti-aging tip as well as all the others. I also refuse to use the chemical junk cosmetics that are on our store shelves! I do not want to use anything with unregulated chemicals on them and instead use olive oil as my moisturizer, honey masks and take my Vidazorb probiotic (the OPC age defense) as well as eating a mostly whole foods diet. The processed stuff is so unhealthy. I think it's about finding a balance that works for each of us personally!

:)
Spend time with people a little younger than you to maintain a more youthful perspective on life!
The headline is "staying young" but the article is about staying alive longer.

No anti-oxidants? FAIL
Um, try reading the studies that determined this. Or, you can keep believing in advertising....
No "antioxidant supplements". YOU Fail.

Common sense but words of wisdom for most.

America just needs to GET OFF THEIR BUTTS. The obesity is embarassing. A little self-discipline and accountability, people.

PS I've been advised to be checked out medically 1st before regular exercise due to significant genetic cardiac risk factors and other issues.
