Well what did they expect would happen when they developed a drug that blocked the CB1 receptor? The CB1 is the main receptor affected when marijuana is smoked.
Exactly what I was thinking. Cannabis intoxication lifts mood, reduces anxiety, and increases appetite. When you block the natural cannibinoids in the brain you can pretty much expect the exact opposite : Depressed mood, anxiety, and decreased appetite. They should call the pill what it is, weight loss via induced depression.
Thats exactly right. I remember hearing about this drug when it was first developed and it struck me as a horrible idea even back then, so I'm not surprised it failed. Even if it hadn't induced depression, there probably would have been some sort of rebound effect when most of the weight was regained due to increased sensitivity to the bodies natural cannibinoids.
Usually when testing drugs you look at all cause mortality. If after 5 years more people are alive with the drug than without, regardless the cause of death, you can say that the drug saves lives. There is another point here: bariatric surgery also increases the suicide risk. Eating makes you happier to a certain point. Eating too much also kills you. I think this drug should be further tested and the additional suicide risk should be explained so as to prevent these deaths.
To what level were these differences in suicide rate statistically significant?
Was a matched control group who were NOT taking the placebos also included to compare suicide rates?
Shyte who cares? Rather be fat than dead.

The only thing this drug should be tested for is its ability to calm people who are having a marijuana induced panic attack.
I think the horse has left the barn by the time the user has a "marijuana induced panic attack".
The only really good thing to calm folks in panic mode are good friends willing to stand by you until the panic has subsided.
Then give them some cookies.
We never made it to the cookies . Burger king or Taco bell was much closer. HA HA
