Actually, no Tyson does not own this company. You may want to check your facts before posting things like this. Big companies like Tyson have people that do nothing but search the internet for the company name and they do charge people with libel where appropriate.
As far as the article goes, these types of problems are not limited to the US. In fact the US food systems is far safer than most other nations. The FDA could be doing a better job than they are, but for the most part, our food supply is safe.
No, our food is NOT safe. The FDA is owned by Monsanto and you are eating GMO's in just about everything that isn't organic.
Europes food supply is much safer, they won't eat GMO foods.
The way the FDA works right now, YOU, YES YOU, can create a genetically modified organism (IE, genetically modify strawberries for example) and YOU can sell them WITHOUT any kind of studies or tests being done on them.
Patrick, you are SPOT ON. We need to educate ourselves, because the FDA (aka ex-Monsanto executives and lawyers) certainly won't do it. Our food supply is a toxic soup and FDA approved.
Watch these documentaries and THEN try to tell me with a straight face that our food supply is safe:
Monsanto, Tyson, Smithfield, Cargill and United Meat Packers produce 80% of the meat in the U.S.A. so any contamination can ultimately be traced to them courtesy of their Greed Over Patriotism corporate lackeys who hate regulators and food inspectors.
Well if the FDA and USDA powers expansion act was not tabled by the last Repubulican administration the expanded law would allow both agencies to hire inspectors and fine the companies as need be.
Hight Hawk - When I looked them up it did not show a link to Tysons. Must have been an old database Iooked in.
Patrick - You can debate GMO food all you want. That is not a food safety issue in my mind. Food safety deals with freedom from contamination, both chemical and biological. In that sense, our food system is very safe compared to many other countries.
However as a consumer I think I have the right to know when I am eating adulterated food but that would probably infringe on the company's frredom to use me and the rest of the American people as guinea pigs. When I hear about how their profits have greater value than the health of our citizens or our right to speak our concerns. So apparrently we should develop a "Let the buyer beware" mindset in regards to our sustainance.
JS, you are a piece of work - but you still have no clue.
Monsanto is a CHEMICAL COMPANY who are the makers of Agent Orange, DDT and RoundUp, and they now "create" and patent our "food" (70% of US corn harvest and 50% of US soya harvest is genetically modified). GMO produce has been genetically modified with a "KILL SWITCH" so that the seed they produce are DEAD! This is done so that the farmers must come back to Monsanto every year for more seed. This is not supposition, it is fact! Monsanto does not deny it. On the contrary, it is their business model.
The FDA, which is comprised of a bunch of ex-Monsanto executives and lawyers, decided that no outside testing of GMOs was necessary because Monsanto did their own testing (talk about the fox guarding the henhouse!), and the FDA also decided that labeling of GMOs was also unnecessary.
The result? We're eating "Frankenfood" created by a chemical company (whose chemical products have caused harm and death to thousands of people), and we're not even told about it.
I've cited my references in the form of several documentaries in my above post, now you cite yours...
If you were a rich money-grubbing Republican ex-Monsanto executive, you wouldn't want to have to give-away all of that money from Social Security to poor Democrats, now would you??? No, you would figure-out a way to make 'em all fat so that they would die-off quick!!!
"Notice how in big business America, the name Tyson is not used, but I believe they own this company."
Thinking must hurt because you lefty nitwits do so little of it. For the other nutters who talk about franken foods here are some facts for you.
1. Food borne illnesses are much higher in home produced and processed foods. Even illnesses that are caused from eating mass produced foods generally come from food preparation errors post purchase.
2. Food borne ilnesses used to be leading causes of death in this country. Nowadays it isn't even ion the radar.
3. You whole food idiots feel free to waste your money. I own stock even though I don't shop there so you are helping to make me richer. I would rather you waste your money than mine. One of my investment mantras, "if a company relies on separating fools from their money, it is a sure thing since this country is full of fools.".....
As usual, there are always some who defend the poisoning of America "because it really isn't that bad". Profits uber alles. There sure are a lot of corporate lackeys on these boards.
Lots of people in charge of regulating our food system come from the companies they’re supposed to regulate.
Executives from multinational companies like Monsanto and ConAgra have headed the USDA and the Environmental Protection Agency and even sat on the Supreme Court. Clarence Thomas, who once served as a lawyer for Monsanto, wrote the Supreme Court opinion making it legal for Monsanto to patent its genetically modified soybeans as “intellectual property.” This made it illegal for farmers to harvest seeds from one year’s crop to use for the next year’s, a practice that had been in place for centuries.
rlkewilldo, I wish I had the answers. All I know to do is inform everyone I can by word of mouth, email, blogs, etc, about what is happening to our food supply without our knowledge, advising them to watch the documentaries and do their own research. What they will find is absolutely heart-wrenching!
I will tell you that this is not an issue just for the USA, it is an issue for the entire planet. Read this article about how people in other countries are not taking it anymore and are destroying GMO crops:
Tyler, you deleted my post because I ranted about Marinevet's constant and violent rant about the GOP and people not supporting the president??
And you stated that I make repeated transgressions on COH #1?? I have been on here for almost two years and within the last two months, this is the second post you deleted. In the entire almost two years, how many posts have you deleted of mine?? Two, maybe three???
It seems you don't agree with me, but in this seed alone, there are worse transgressions that have not been touched. Can you explain this?? Thank you.
What in the world is wrong with our food supply. You cant pick up the paper or listen to the news without hearing about a ecoli or wisteria outbreak. Sometimes I think that our enemies are out to getus through our food supply.
Geesh Nikita... When our government can do something correctly the first time, have it well thought out, and does it efficiently I will give them the praise they deserve. Until then, they get what they have coming to them.
In the meantime you can just tout more government control because we all know how well they do things. Read this article for example.....
Aww, come on-I would think thegovernment have better things to do, besides, if they are poisoning us, wouldn't they be taking the chance of poisoning themselves?? A little reality here please!
While I don't think our government is trying to deliberately poison us, do you seriously think the obscenely wealthy like our government officials shop at WalMart, or any of the places that normal consumers do?
Well, in 1972, the USDA inspected 10,000 food producing plants. After Ronnie Ray Gun cut taxes for the rich and fired all the regulators to pay for his space lasers those numbers began declining. By 2006, when Dumya and the Greed Over Patriotism deregulation machine was ensuring a Stock Market crash, and that torture was legal, the USDA carried out 2,500 inspections. President Obama can't get a budget passed to hire more regulators because the party of NO doesn't want to reinstate those taxes on the rich to pay for it.
Remember who has led this country into ruin and our Treasury into the arms of Communist China.
Give it a rest. Mr. Obama can pass anything he wants to. Thats what a majority is good for. He can't pass legislation because politicians don't bite the hands that feed them. Democrat or republican. They're all bought off by big money. Your continued belief that all things terrible are the fault of the GOP plays right into the hands of those in your party whose bank accounts grow with every visit from the lobbyists. Try getting past the political rhetoric and see things for what they are. Right now you sound more like a campaign slogan than anything else.
it's happening on his watch. anything bush or any other pres did on their watch was their's. why is obama different, because we're racist for not kissing his arse?
So instead you would have us place our lives in the hands of some executive who has no motive to cover up poisoned or tainted food but fights with lawyers and lobbyists to protect him from the evil federal goernment inspections. And I find it interesting that cmon-864012 is already wimpering about race which prior to his post would be the first mention of it on this feed.
As I recall, the Republicans know plenty of lobbyists too. And why do they always want anyone that disagrees with them to shut-up, even trying to interrupt and shout them down, must be afraid of hearing a different opinion?
Another power grab by the administration? These people will not stop at anything. "Never let a good crisis go to waste".
It's that or suddenly the FDA has become incompetent. The only thing "transparent" here is the administration blatant, sophmoric attempts to rig our government.
When you cut inspectors and deregulate you are placing the crux of product safety in the hands of those who have a profit motive to place profit high above the safety of it's consumers. But I'm sure that you can place the safety of your family comfortably in the hands of these "moral" companies
Are all FDA employees on Facebook all day long? If not, what the hel$ are they doing ('cause they're not inspecting food manufacturers, that's for sure)?
Actually, know-it-all conservative wind bag Dennis, the FDA and the Agriculture Department have less power than you seem to know. Especially the power to dispose of food or shut down plants. It's republiklan hands off capitalism at its best. Unless, of course you end up with 29 dead miners or a a bunch of dead oil rig workers and an ocean of oil in the gulf. But, you're so smart, I'm sure you have ALL the answers. Are you on a ballot somewhere for something?
Oh, and before you start in with all the usual smears and rants, I'm sure it's all Obama's fault.
Pill - what the heck are you ranting about? Seems like Dennis really didn't post anything to warrant such an attack. I hope you don't treat real people (or animals) that way in person. You're one angry voter.
Well why don't you tell us all how pro-regulation republicans are. Please. In every instance republicans prefer less to no regulation, and when they can't get rid of it they make sure the department gets less money to carry out their tasks. Please tell us how republicans are pro safety over profits, and be specific. I dare you.
AMEN! Sounds like the FDA needs to fire those they have and hire some of those standing in the unemployment lines in this country, I bet those folks would work for less AND do a better job!
a little googling and you can find the owner is foodbrands inc which is owned by IBP Foodservice. easy to figure out. Not Tyson this time, but just as big and just as troublesome. I love google.
I so agree with you, Bob! Maybe I'm wrong, but I just can't bring myself to purchase 'fresh' food products from Walmart and I don't find the prices that much less expensive than a regular grocery store.
Wasn't it only last month that Walmart had a chicken nugget recall?
Because the only time the prices are low at Wal-Mart is when they still have competition. Then the price increase after they kill off all local competition. Nothing like a pipeline shipping jobs to China and replacing living wages with minimum wages.
I really can't get too angry at the inspectors. After all, they are funded by a congress which is beholding to big business in their home states and other donors with special interests. There simply aren't enough inspectors to go around each and every manufacturing plant and check each and every product. If there are to be enough inspectors, we will have to pay for them and it seems that we are unwilling to do that. We want it both ways.
You have republicazi's since ronnie raygun to thank for all of the deregulation. All of you who thought there was too much government and that businesses could be trusted to do the right thing...how's that working for ya? I did forget...the only governmental inspectors looking out for our safety are on the payroll/take of these same businesses. I feel SO much safer now.
Oh My !! it must be Obama's fault. The food industry would have caught this on their own and recalled their own products wouldn't they?? ....Yea Right?
@Bob Douglas....check out the FDAs recall website. All those products weren't sold in WalMart alone. WalMart offers some good prices to people who really need them in this economy. However....if someone is food/health conscious they wouldn't be buying packaged deli meat to begin with.
You know who the culprits of hiring illegal aliens is by the products they produce, our food industries have been decimated by these companies hiring illegals or vistaed workers who have poor hygiene and carriers of disease. The people in the government that allow our food industries continual waste and destruction due to infectious organisms and disease should be arrested for treason against the people of the U.S as well as the people who hire these unclean and diseased people.
Size of government doubled under Dumya while illegal immigration tripled. Tax cuts for the rich while running Trillion dollar deficits and gutting regulatory agencies and inspectors.
In 1972, the USDA inspected 10,000 food producing plants.
What do the following Democrats have in common? This is not an all encompassing list, it's just the first page of Tysons campaign donation statement. Ross, Bryers, Lincoln, Thompson, Baucus, Bishop, Pryor, Ford, Hoyer, Snyder, Carper, Tanner, Knowles, Stenholm, Berry, John, Breaux, Landrieu, Miller, Hollings, Bryant, Johnson, Stodola. They all took money from Tyson Foods. I would suggest that they are the reason no regulatory funding is increased. Feel free to add Republicans to the list. They're just as bad.
It doesn't matter what party or who the root was just start using the judicial system to arrest them for treason against the people, once they start prosecuting the industries will start shaping up as well as the senate and congress.
A unit of Tyson Foods Inc has recalled 380,000 pounds of deli meat that may be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes, a bacteria that can cause food poisoning, the U.S. Agriculture Department said.
The meat from Zemco Industries was made into "Marketside Grab and Go" sandwiches that were distributed nationwide to a single retail chain, the USDA said late Monday.
Wal-Mart Stores Inc said on its website that the recall affected products sold at its stores.
There have been no reports of illnesses associated with the product.
"The problem was discovered as a result of a retail sample collected by the state of Georgia that confirmed positive," the USDA said.
The sandwiches have expiry dates ranging from August 20 to September 10, the USDA said.
Patriot 1506681: I guess Your bigotry, prejudices, homophobia, anti Hispanic, anti Muslim & anti government views have not changes one bit. You should get educated before making your usual ignorant posts!!
Give me another reason for not shopping at Wal Mart. The meat was probably brought in from some 3 rd world countyr. America, we need to let Wal Mart crumble. They have killed our country.
That's been in the news, produce like lettuce and spinach that tested for e-coli, and had to be recalled. Then folks say, even vegetables are unsafe. vegetables become unsafe only because of the meat producing industry (massive CAFO's/factory farms with 100,000+ hogs or cattle at one facility, with vast manure pools, as well as the speed of slaughter now, which can lead to fecal matter infecting meat during slaughter).
From the CBC website: E. coli, short for Escherichia coli, is a type of bacteria commonly found in the intestines of animals and humans. There are hundreds of strains of the bacterium, but E. coli O157:H7 has been identified as the most dangerous to people, producing a powerful toxin that can cause severe illness.
E. coli O157:H7 can contaminate ground beef during the butchering process. If it is present in the intestines of the slaughtered animal, it can get into the meat as it is ground into hamburger.
Fruits and vegetables that grow close to the ground are susceptible to E. coli contamination if, for example, improperly composted cattle manure is used as a fertilizer.
According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the presence of E. coli in water is a strong indication of recent sewage or animal waste contamination.
E. coli comes from human and animal wastes. During precipitation, E. coli may be washed into creeks, rivers, streams, lakes, or groundwater.
Come on Now!! Where`s the FDA in all this! aren`t they suppose to be checking the food we consume! Watch `Food INC` and you`d be surprised what the government is letting slide as far as food is concerned.
well, that's what happens when you shop for your food at wally world. I went in to a walmart once and came out feeling like I needed to be boiled and scrubbed with antibacterial soap. I felt like I just stepped onto the set of Deliverance. The place is NASTY
I looked around at the cashiers and most of them had one tooth between them.
Walmart may be bad, but don't degrade the people. That's probably the only job they could find. I'd work there if I really, really needed a job. But I wouldn't buy my food there, might find a tooth in it.
US Food Supply is the safest in the world. However, we will continue to have recalls because nature and human errors do happen and will always happen. As consumers, we need to be educated when an outbreak does happen. If you do not think our food supplis safe move to another country and then you can see how safe it really is!
Food quality, longevity, water quality, infant mortality, infrastructure, consumer protection....11th place!!!! Makes a man proud to have survived 8 years of Greed Over Patriotism. With the continued support of the American people, president Obama will have the opportunity to get us back to first place.
We need to remember why food inspection became such an issue far back in the 1890s. The number of inspectors has dwindled to the point where these recalls are all too common. Will it take something slipping through and sickening or being fatal to thousands to make this government and manufacturers put food safety on the front burner?
Notice how in big business America, the name Tyson is not used, but I believe they own this company.

a little googling and you can find the owner is foodbrands inc which is owned by IBP Foodservice. easy to figure out. Not Tyson this time, but just as big and just as troublesome. I love google.
IBP is owned by Con-Agra. You have to be pretty big to supply to Walmart.
You shop at walmart, you get what you get. those savings have to come from somewhere.
I so agree with you, Bob! Maybe I'm wrong, but I just can't bring myself to purchase 'fresh' food products from Walmart and I don't find the prices that much less expensive than a regular grocery store.
Wasn't it only last month that Walmart had a chicken nugget recall?
I was thinking the same thing. Walmart meat? Eugh.
Walmart sucks.
Because the only time the prices are low at Wal-Mart is when they still have competition. Then the price increase after they kill off all local competition. Nothing like a pipeline shipping jobs to China and replacing living wages with minimum wages.
Dump it and forget it. Wait for the cleaner stuff.
You should check your facts.
Tyson is indeed the parent company.

It's Listeria, tards
Yea we need white people to work there Moron
Zemco is owned by Tyson Foods
A complete list of products are available at: http://r.reuters.com/nuh86n
So no food is safe anymore? Hope everyone has their food storage handy.
If NO food is safe, what are we going to store?
Patriot 1506681: I guess Your bigotry, prejudices, homophobia, anti Hispanic, anti Muslim & anti government views have not changes one bit. You should get educated before making your usual ignorant posts!!
Bernie,
Let him rant. It is very entertaining to read such crap. I bet his ancestors were unwashed, disease encrusted knuckle draggers.
I'd say this is a real problem....
Anyone remember by what name Fresh Express used to be known as???
Does Bruce Church ring a bell? 20 years ago I was taught to always watch-out for Bruce Church!!!
And sure enough, one day they tried to load a half-dozen pallets of bagged Fresh Express salad mix with 4 days to go until the expiration date.
Boy were they mad when I said that I wouldn't take it.
Give me another reason for not shopping at Wal Mart. The meat was probably brought in from some 3 rd world countyr. America, we need to let Wal Mart crumble. They have killed our country.
I believe they sell USDA Grade F meat, mostly from circus animals.
I think the meat is from illegal aliens. They always disappear when the INS shows up.
Made me think of this. They never found Jimmy Hoffa.
"My Bologna has a first name, it's J-I-M-M-Y.
My Bologna has a second name it's H-O-F-F-A.
I love to eat it every day and if you ask me why I'll say,
Cuz Jimmy Hoffa has a way with B-O-L-O-G-N-A."
"Here at the Jimmy Hoffa meat company we put a little bit of ourselves into everything we make."
What a tragedy...all of those animals killed just to be thrown away...
Maybe we should be vegetarians. No wait, the veggies are poison too.
And lovingly passed on to your kids - Moral Capialism
I read just last night in Newsweek that the US is only the 11th-best country in the world.
Food quality, longevity, water quality, infant mortality, infrastructure, consumer protection....11th place!!!! Makes a man proud to have survived 8 years of Greed Over Patriotism. With the continued support of the American people, president Obama will have the opportunity to get us back to first place.
Not if the tea partners and Pseudo fascists have their way.
We need to remember why food inspection became such an issue far back in the 1890s. The number of inspectors has dwindled to the point where these recalls are all too common. Will it take something slipping through and sickening or being fatal to thousands to make this government and manufacturers put food safety on the front burner?
In the age of deregulation of Moral bussiness?
