I have no problem using Embryonic stem cells for research.
They've Discovered These Stem cells can be found in the placenta after birth. This is discarded. Destroyed...
NOT AN ISSUE FOR ME!!
My problem is I've read multiple articles about this research & it's pretty much implied that their will be rejection using embryonic stem cells. That's why many researchers are working on & having success at using your own tissue to create Stem Cells. Absolutely no rejection. It's a part of you.
Could it be some of these researchers have patents on these strains of cells & are more interested in becoming the Bill Gates of Body Parts.
I mean how can they patent these Embryonic Stem cells. AND Shouldn't the woman that produced them have first dibs on a patent if you can...
If there is any rejection- Even with anti-rejection drugs your days are numbered.
Well, We gave him a new heart. Then why did he die Doctor. Well, we nearly destroyed his immune system and he caught the flu. That's what killed him... His heart was just fine...
I've read some things on tedmed.com that's really interesting-- Like printing out organs on an ink jet printer in 3D using you own cells.
Another thing. They can use these Embryonic stem cells right now as long as it's funded by the private sector or some Corporation. Just Not Federal Grants. Also if they use Federal Grant money, shouldn't the Tax Payer get a share of those Profits...
Really good points that our politicians, NIH and FDA should be asking, and they would ask if they actually cared a fig about American citizens instead of being owned by pharma.
All of science knows that human stem cells need NOT be embryonic to work . Embryonic is misnomer for fragile. Check what NBS is doing with human stem cells. This is only an issue because Planned Parenthood and similar companies in the abortion business want to be able to transact embryonic stem cells to labs after abortions.
Embryonic stem cells do not come from abortions. They come from embryos created in test tubes for In Vitro Fertilization procedures at IVF Clinics. Embryos that are not implanted are destroyed WHETHER OR NOT they are used for research. By prohibiting this research, you are not preserving embryos or discouraging abortion. Your argument is specious. If you want to stop the creation of embryonic stem cells, you would have to campaign against IVF, not abortion. Your anti-abortion stance has no bearing on this argument about whether this life-saving research should be allowed.
"Betting the Farm on Stem Cells" is a misleading title. Readers are encouraged to investigate Geron's anti-cancer drug candidate, imetelstat, as far more valuable component of Geron than the stem cell research.
Smoke and mirrors. A clinic in Colorado and one in Germany are only two of many that have CURED--not MANAGED-- illnesses by using patients' own stem cells. The FDA, in a blatant bid to protect its pals' profits while doing terrible harm to Americans, decided that my own--and your own--stem cells are drugs that need to go through clinical trials before being used in my own body (or your own body).
Hundreds (if not thousands by now) of dogs and horses have regained their active lives through having their own stem cells injected back into their tendon/hip/etc. But you and I have to pay for painful, costly, life-altering surgery for hip replacement or open-heart surgery. This focus on embryonic research, which has already had patent lawsuits without making a patient well, is to keep our eyes off the truly miraculous, safe--and far less costly because no patents and no life-long anti-rejection drugs--use of our own stem cells.
Aside from the obvious possible health benefits to all humankind, the United States risks losing the economic advantages that will come from stem cell therapy. Science has brought us relief from labor and sickness. We need to have progress and not return to superstition. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDZFf0pm0SE
While I was reading the article I had this crazy thought: What if this is the key to living hundreds of years? Or maybe even the key to immortality?
Then I thought how it's right-wing religious Conservatives that are so against this research because of the embryo issue. They want people to die it seems instead of receiving ground breaking research that could extend their lives or even have them live perfectly normal lives. Wouldn't it be weird if, once science made leaps and bounds in this research and it did make it possible for people to live very long times, that Conservative religious people would be against it because they think you are supposed to die and go to Heaven and be with God? (BTW-I am NOT religious at all) What if we were never supposed to die in the first place? Maybe somewhere along the way we lost our true history from where we came from. A history that went far back before our known recorded history began. And we lost our scientific medical knowledge in the process where we used to live for very long times; maybe for thousands of years. Who knows, could be possible. I mean if you could repair your body and organs and even the brain, what's to kill you?
Ii is good to know that ESCs are used in research. However, one thing should be kept in mind kn studies on curing diseases with ESCs. Everybody forgets about the work of Darwin, who showed that during embryonic development, ontogeny repeats phylogeny. That is why most of the attempts with ESCs to cure diseases are not successful.

The potential lives saved by using stem cells is astounding and not using our abilities to improve health care is a tragic waste of human talent.
Imagine if antibiotics and vaccines were never allowed to have been used how millions would not be alive today?
If you want to live in the 16th century, I suggest moving to Afganistan.
Big deal. So it doesn't get government funding. There's too much government funding of everything already, which is why we're in this mess today.

Yes, I do have an active imagination sometimes.
