I wonder...if she was thinner would the tumor be that large? for SURE she would have noticed it earlier, maybe like the 5lb mark. If you are too fat to notice a 50+lb tumor you have other issues besides an icky growth :S
Pete the plumber--obviously you have never had an unusual condition like this woman. In one way I hope you never are, but the biggest part of me hopes that you will someday soon have to deal with a physical condition that makes you realize all of the hurtful things you have said. Ugly in these conversations describes your statements are very ignorant and immature statements. Grow up!!!! I too hope she recovers fully and has a full and meaningful life.
I don't think it would make a difference in size, if this girl was not as heavy... My skinny grandmother had the same thing... Practically the same size too... It must have been 50 lbs. "Granny" was skinny as a rail, but always looked pregnant... This was back in the '60's... I don't think doctors knew what to make of it back then....
Why did they wait for it to get so freaking big? Why didn't they do something about this before it got this large? Was she trying out for the Guinness Book of World Records?
I wish her well, but damn, people, start taking better care of your bodies.
If you think she can lose weight, this implies you think the weight is due to her lifestyle choices. In that case, why would you insult Pete the Plumber, as though this woman CAN'T lose weight? You contradict yourself.
Chunky-Monkey, except in an emergency situation, "they" (health care professionals) can't do anything before someone asks for help.
This woman didn't believe that anything was particularly wrong until this tumour caused her pain that she could no longer ignore. That's when she said something, and that's when "they" could do something to help her.
Waiting until you're in that much pain before seeking help isn't the least bit extraordinary. In fact, it's pretty much common place.
"Lopez said the woman had felt a constant growth in her abdomen for a year and a half, but just thought she was gaining weight.
Finally, she consulted doctors and it was determined she needed surgery, and the tumor was removed a couple of months ago, he said".
Go back and read again.
Maybe it's you that need to work on your comprehension skills. If she claims she felt a growth growing inside of her, then go to the freaking hospital and have it checked out for christ sakes. Why wait for it to become 56lbs, and then think maybe something is wrong.
If I were to feel an unusual growth in my stomach I would use some common sense to go and get it checked out.
I hope so too! When I was a teenager, I once visited a woman who lived in a nearby town. I was a tag along - the adults were visiting this woman. Well, what I will never forget is the large, cone shaped protrusion coming out of her stomach area - it appeared that she had swallowed a traffic cone! After we had left I asked what was going on with her, and they told me she had a tumor. I have no idea what happened to her.
She can go on a diet? Are you suggesting her extreme obesity is HER fault? But then you insult Pete the Plumber. You, like san diego, contradict yourself.
So what you are also assuming is that it was not her fault she was 300lbs. Neither of which the story states. Just by saying she can go on a diet and he will be always be ugly is not a contradiction at all.
A contradiction occurs when the propositions, taken together, yield two conclusions which form the logical, usually opposite inversions of each other.
And your mother is ashamed of you. You are not a very good Christian. No matter the size we are all beautiful in christ's eyes. Get a clue and stop beign so ugly with your comment. But I do have to say if you are trying for attention it is working. Suggestion everyone ignor Pete.
Yeah Pete, don't you know that Christians only do good things. I know that they hate gays and fondle children, think they are right and the Buddists are wrong, follow all of the commandments include FORGIVE THY NEIGHBOR and all of that other good stuff. Like Pete, I make fun of people that are different and they can do the same to me.
I guess all the insensitive people that wrote stupid things here don't have a life, a job, or just bored of there life, ohhhh or maybe their like 10 years old, which my son is and he would feel really bad about reading this news.
I am 120 pounds soaking wet. 1 year ago I went thru a hysterectomy due to a 3 pound tumor that was pressing on my spine. It caused severe backpain, sometimes I felt paralyzed and was unable to move, and it caused massive bleeding. My fingernails were peeling and breaking and it was literally draining the life out of me. I am 33 years old. I don't know how these tumors get to be so large and these women don't find out sooner.
We do we seek help but some of us cannot lie like some to get medicaid coming from another country never working one day here and receiving help from my future social sec.
I tried to get help even in different states but the doctors have red tape to follow specially now with the bad economy hopefully I will be able to get the surgery I know I need 3 new doctors have put it writing but without health insurance ( too costly) I cannot get the surgery .
I went to the emergencey room at Stonybrook (they gave me morphine of course I could walk a little better)and was sent to an outside clinic and had to pay again but without medicaid to help I cannot get my surgery sent home again and hope in 30 to 45 days I will be able to qualify. I have gone to the emergency room to 4 hospital before that and they all say the same go to your doctor I DONT HAVE ONE.
I know a 65 yr old woman who just had a 61 lb tumor removed. She now weighs 125 lbs. She just assumed it was middle age spread until it started causing pain. You people who are putting down overwieght people and are name calling are just immature children and need to grow up and develop some compassion. God bless this woman in the article and the woman I mentioned here. I wish them both a speedy recovery and lots of healthy life.
I had a 5 lb tumor removed. Had to have a radical hysterectomy. Caused sever bleeding and pain. My doctor kept telling me I was menopausal. Finally changed doctors and everything is ok now.
Because when you are fat, your only problem is you are fat and eat too much. Doctors ignore people because if you are in pain, it is in your head and if you tired and gaining weight, you need to eat better and exercise. Doctors play the blame game. It is always your fault. They are always amazed when the remove 5 tumors from your thyroid and you lose 60lbs and without dieting and keep it off for 4 years. Or they do an MRI and find lesions on your brain. If you are fat you are discriminated against.
Maita, please understand that I'm not saying this in order to blame the victim, but it does seem that you moved to the wrong country. Had you come north of the border instead of south of it, you would have been able to apply for and receive provincial medical insurance after you'd been here 30 days. That means that you don't have to pay directly for doctor's visits, ER visits, most tests, surgeries, etc. In some provinces, you would also be eligible for prescription coverage.
For those of you who think in snarky at best terms about "Obamacare", what I've described above is what you would have had if too many idiots hadn't insisted that universal health care isn't anyone's right. That includes no risk of families going bankrupt simply because one member of the family is ill or injured. It also includes third party insurers (they still exist) can't cap your lifetime claim and can't deny you coverage because of a "pre-existing" condition, and therefore keep you from getting the help that you need.
Of more immediate concern was the fact that it was found to be malignant...hopefully it didn't metastasize (spread)
Pete appears to me to be one of those trolls who look for a story, say something obnoxious, then revel in the negative attention it generates...what a sad pathetic little person...ignore him
My aunt had a 28lbs soft tissue sarcoma removed from her body as well. The doctors did not expect her to survive the weeks of healing required because of infection. She did spend six weeks attached to a six foot tube. People in prison have more freedom than she did.
These are very rare cancers and only about 5000 cases in the U.S. each year. They rarely metastasize. Rather a new tumor can grow somewhere else. Which is what happened to my aunt with a tumor in the upper left lobe of her lung. That one was bigger then expected but was about the size of a quarter. This has been ongoing for about 4 years. Today she is having a biopsy for a mass in her breast.
You know everyone I for myself am glad the lady had her surgery
I myself have been struggling with red tape to see a doctor I spent all my money (what little I had) to see doctors. NO one wnated to help to guide or anything they just say hope you feel better, and here I am that hopefully this time I will be able to get medical assistance so I can work and pay it back gladly .
My tumor has grown to the size of a 16 month fetus and I did not think having this would be so painfula and uncomfortable ti drains all my energy , and I am in constant pain.
My husband thinks I do not love him because our love life has been affected ( he is used to be loved almost everyday) now not so much it is very painfull.
I run out of breath it hurst to lay down on any side for too long , if I sit it hurts because it crushes the lump, if I stand my legs swell and so on.
So when you see someone obese sometimes it is not that they eat so much it is that they might have a tumor and there are other illnesses that people have due to pollution as the body's biggest organ (skin) absorbs everything that can cause swelling fue to lack of proper bowel movement and so on.
So yes sometiems we may see something not so pretty but who are we to say who is ugly and why are they obese instead we should see what we can do to stop all this nonsense red tape .
If 3rd world countries have medical care how come we dont and have to go thru so much to get if we become unemployed .
I have been waiting 6 yrs , it could have been resolved when there were just 2 little cysts but they had to wait till I could hardly walk.
I am not obese but I am overweigh since I cannot do much, since it is painful.
Just wanted everyone to get some idea of what goes behind other peoples lives.
Sitting around all day on the internet writing page long, incoherent posts. Sounds like a recipe for obesity to me...Maybe if you went out and found a job BEFORE this tumor came about, they would have offered you some medical insurance.
What does owning a computer and internet service have to do with the VERY HIGH cost of a surgery? Less than $50 a month for Internet service versus $100,000+ for medical surgery.
Besides she might be using the computer at her local library. Maita, I hope you get the help you need soon to be able to have your surgery.
You still don't know her circumstances. Sometimes those who are unable to do much else need some form of contact and communication with the outside world. As for finances, we all priortize. A used computer doesn't cost much (can even be received as a gift). My internet service costs me less than $15 per month.
If you are unable to work full-time, the chances of finding a job that offers medical insurance are almost nonexistent.
I guess many of you have never heard of a public access computer (at a library or community center, for example) of about using the computer of a friend or neighbor.
Wait, I just said that some of you HAVE friends. With the attitudes that I see from you, that would be shocking.
You're assuming that everyone has access to a library or community center, or has friends withing walking distance. Apparently you have never lived in an area without readily available public transportation or in the country.
Just Me: I don't think we were "assuming" anything. We were simply giving alternatives to the commenter who wondered why Maita could afford a computer & internet service but couldn't afford the surgery. Obviously Maita accessed a computer somewhere to leave her comment about her need for surgery. And for the record, I DO LIVE IN THE COUNTRY WHERE THERE IS NO PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION.
What does hope have to do with it? Nothing if not combined with lifestyle change. I should know. I repeatedly see folks that have cancer 'cured' only to find it back 3-10 years down the road. Why? Because they do NOTHING (and their doctors fail to advise them to do anything) different to prevent the re-growth of cancer. There are lifestyle factors (about 25 of them) that will virtually guarantee no cancer, but doctors never discuss these with patients.
So KNOWLEDGE and EDUCATION will help prevent a re-growth of her cancer, but again hope ALONE will do absolutely nothing, except give this woman a warm fuzzy feeling for a while. Meanwhile, she'll go back to her genetically modified, fried, hormone treated chicken-rich, factory farmed animal-rich, pasteurized, microwaved, corn syrup- rich, high fructose corn syrup-rich, sugar-rich, hydrogenated fat-rich, additive laden, vegetable deprived diet and HOPE to have no recurrence.
Yeah right!
I'm happy her surgery was successful, but now she has to make a choice: Change her lifestyle 100 percent or have the cancer return in a few years. It's a simple choice but she'll need only ONE ingredient to make it happen: education! And who out there (in our profit-driven medical system), will give her that education?
Good question.
She can e-mail me if she wants to know...for free: propitiousday4u@yahoo.com.
Thak you that is very true , I do eat right and perhaps that is why I have not become 300 lbs. But very few know this about nutrition. The media does not help with all the ads on junk food even when it is disguised as good food.
There are so many tasty foods that are good for us it is how you can prepare it that matters.
Like I make delicious fry chicken without oil.
I wash the chicken and place it in the pot with the skin facing the botton and just let it sort of melt as the heat cooks it I turn it once in a while making sure it does not burn and tha tall sides are cooked it tastes delicious it is up to you how crunchy you want it and the skin stays in the pot not in your tummy
You are making an awful lot of assumptions about this lady's lifestyle, all of them based on no legitimat information. The fact that she lives in Argentina probably negates most of your assumptions. Even if she lives in the United States, you are one pompous ___— (fill in the blank) if you think you can diagnose anyone without meeting the person.
So happy she is on the mend. Years ago, our landlady, told of a story something like that. Doc said she was pregnant. People at her church and all so upset. Husband out of town. So in church, it broke open. It was a 20 lb tumor. So she was happy and "forgiven by her friends. Some friends huh.
she's still nearly 300 pounds
gross
She can lose weight. You will always be ugly
hurtful
you're mean
An 8 year old girl or a 40 year old ugly dwarf. :) You're right, gross.
I wonder...if she was thinner would the tumor be that large? for SURE she would have noticed it earlier, maybe like the 5lb mark. If you are too fat to notice a 50+lb tumor you have other issues besides an icky growth :S

Your reading comprehension need some help.
"Lopez said the woman had felt a constant growth in her abdomen for a year and a half, but just thought she was gaining weight.

Go back and read again.
To san diego,

You will have an illness one day, hope someone doesn't think
of you as ugly!! You poor excuse for a human being!
"Pete The Plumber"
You are AWFUL!! What an UGLY person you are!
I hope she recovers fully after this and has a long and healthy life!
I hope so too! When I was a teenager, I once visited a woman who lived in a nearby town. I was a tag along - the adults were visiting this woman. After we had left I asked what was going on with her, and they told me she had a tumor. I have no idea what happened to her.
all i can say is.. ewww... i hope it never happens to me
dettie -- Now that is an honest comment if I ever read one. I agree. I also do hope she recovers well.
Really Pete! You are a sad little man to make fun of anyone.
Pete, you're an insensitive git.
That article said what happened. It did not say you had to date her.
Now kindly take your size-prejudice and go be someplace else. You're only making the problem worse.
Have you taken a look in the mirror recently?
You are pretty gross yourself.
To Pete the plumber...she may still be almost 300 lbs but you are ugly and she can go on a diet.
She can go on a diet? Are you suggesting her extreme obesity is HER fault? But then you insult Pete the Plumber. You, like san diego, contradict yourself.

We will definately keep her in our prayers and hope she is recovering beautiful. As for Pete did you look in the mirror?
what a kind Christian you are.
lulz
Wasamata Pete? You can dish it out but you can't take it? Poor little man.
got me
lol
Looks like an enormous turkey. Is that a drumstick I see?
the internet white knights. lulz
she's so fat she failed to notice she had a tumor the size of an 8 year old growing inside her.
that's just gross
An 8 year old girl or 40 year old ugly dwarf. You're right, that is gross.
edit in wrong place.
carry on
it was in the right place---so mad
that dwarf is dead
what kind of lowlife insults the dead?
your mother would be ashamed of you
And your mother is ashamed of you. You are not a very good Christian. No matter the size we are all beautiful in christ's eyes. Get a clue and stop beign so ugly with your comment. But I do have to say if you are trying for attention it is working. Suggestion everyone ignor Pete.
I'm a Christian?
News to me.
Let's see what a good Christian is taught to think of this grossly overweight woman though shall we?
“Put a knife to your throat if you are given to gluttony.”
Beauty is only skin deep Pete. Obviously true in your case. What a shallow little man.
but ugly's to the bone. and that chick's got some ugly bones
I always liked that one
To Pete the plumber...she may still be almost 300 lbs but you are ugly and she can go on a diet.
I guess all the insensitive people that wrote stupid things here don't have a life, a job, or just bored of there life, ohhhh or maybe their like 10 years old, which my son is and he would feel really bad about reading this news.
you people are all prejudice to people based on how pretty they are.
hopefully you don't teach this hatred to your children.
you're all horrible people and should never be allowed to have kids.
I'm wounded, deeply wounded here
Go back to 4chan.
Also, it's not white knighting. You're just a troll.
Any relation to Joe the plumber??? He's an idiot too!!!
I wish her a full recovery.
I'm sure a tumor that size, would incapacitate her mobility thus causing her to gain. Maybe now
she can get down to her normal size. And if now, she has the right to be big! Just like you, petee,
have the right to not shave or become bald or plumb pipes! Yuk!
I am 120 pounds soaking wet. 1 year ago I went thru a hysterectomy due to a 3 pound tumor that was pressing on my spine. My fingernails were peeling and breaking and it was literally draining the life out of me. I am 33 years old. I don't know how these tumors get to be so large and these women don't find out sooner.
they don't find out sooner because they are grossly overweight to begin with.
they just assume it's more weight--and when you're already 300 pounds it's not all that alarming when you grow to 350 with pain.
but I'm ugly, what do I know?
Maybe you're not ugly, but you are an idiot.
We do we seek help but some of us cannot lie like some to get medicaid coming from another country never working one day here and receiving help from my future social sec.

Now she can go get her eat on!!!
make her eat the tumor
that'll teach her
Maybe if you baked it at 350 degrees for 6 hrs and has a side of potatos and greens, some gravey and a candlelit dinner for 10.
Sounds good!
suck kock dummy!!!
I can see maybe forgiving someone for a 20 pounder....but 56 pounds? I'm just not sure if that is reasonable to expect of someones forgiveness...
How depressing it all is.
I wish health and happiness to all.
