I don't think it would make a difference in size, if this girl was not as heavy... My skinny grandmother had the same thing... Practically the same size too... It must have been 50 lbs. "Granny" was skinny as a rail, but always looked pregnant... This was back in the '60's... I don't think doctors knew what to make of it back then....

If you think she can lose weight, this implies you think the weight is due to her lifestyle choices. In that case, why would you insult Pete the Plumber, as though this woman CAN'T lose weight? You contradict yourself.

Chunky-Monkey, except in an emergency situation, "they" (health care professionals) can't do anything before someone asks for help.

This woman didn't believe that anything was particularly wrong until this tumour caused her pain that she could no longer ignore. That's when she said something, and that's when "they" could do something to help her.

Waiting until you're in that much pain before seeking help isn't the least bit extraordinary. In fact, it's pretty much common place.

Maybe it's you that need to work on your comprehension skills. If she claims she felt a growth growing inside of her, then go to the freaking hospital and have it checked out for christ sakes. Why wait for it to become 56lbs, and then think maybe something is wrong.

If I were to feel an unusual growth in my stomach I would use some common sense to go and get it checked out.

I hope so too! When I was a teenager, I once visited a woman who lived in a nearby town. I was a tag along - the adults were visiting this woman. Well, what I will never forget is the large, cone shaped protrusion coming out of her stomach area - it appeared that she had swallowed a traffic cone! After we had left I asked what was going on with her, and they told me she had a tumor. I have no idea what happened to her.

We do we seek help but some of us cannot lie like some to get medicaid coming from another country never working one day here and receiving help from my future social sec.

I tried to get help even in different states but the doctors have red tape to follow specially now with the bad economy hopefully I will be able to get the surgery I know I need 3 new doctors have put it writing but without health insurance ( too costly) I cannot get the surgery .

I went to the emergencey room at Stonybrook (they gave me morphine of course I could walk a little better)and was sent to an outside clinic and had to pay again but without medicaid to help I cannot get my surgery sent home again and hope in 30 to 45 days I will be able to qualify. I have gone to the emergency room to 4 hospital before that and they all say the same go to your doctor I DONT HAVE ONE.

I know a 65 yr old woman who just had a 61 lb tumor removed. She now weighs 125 lbs. She just assumed it was middle age spread until it started causing pain. You people who are putting down overwieght people and are name calling are just immature children and need to grow up and develop some compassion. God bless this woman in the article and the woman I mentioned here. I wish them both a speedy recovery and lots of healthy life.

I had a 5 lb tumor removed. Had to have a radical hysterectomy. Caused sever bleeding and pain. My doctor kept telling me I was menopausal. Finally changed doctors and everything is ok now.

Because when you are fat, your only problem is you are fat and eat too much. Doctors ignore people because if you are in pain, it is in your head and if you tired and gaining weight, you need to eat better and exercise. Doctors play the blame game. It is always your fault. They are always amazed when the remove 5 tumors from your thyroid and you lose 60lbs and without dieting and keep it off for 4 years. Or they do an MRI and find lesions on your brain. If you are fat you are discriminated against.

Maita, please understand that I'm not saying this in order to blame the victim, but it does seem that you moved to the wrong country. Had you come north of the border instead of south of it, you would have been able to apply for and receive provincial medical insurance after you'd been here 30 days. That means that you don't have to pay directly for doctor's visits, ER visits, most tests, surgeries, etc. In some provinces, you would also be eligible for prescription coverage.

For those of you who think in snarky at best terms about "Obamacare", what I've described above is what you would have had if too many idiots hadn't insisted that universal health care isn't anyone's right. That includes no risk of families going bankrupt simply because one member of the family is ill or injured. It also includes third party insurers (they still exist) can't cap your lifetime claim and can't deny you coverage because of a "pre-existing" condition, and therefore keep you from getting the help that you need.

My aunt had a 28lbs soft tissue sarcoma removed from her body as well. The doctors did not expect her to survive the weeks of healing required because of infection. She did spend six weeks attached to a six foot tube. People in prison have more freedom than she did.

These are very rare cancers and only about 5000 cases in the U.S. each year. They rarely metastasize. Rather a new tumor can grow somewhere else. Which is what happened to my aunt with a tumor in the upper left lobe of her lung. That one was bigger then expected but was about the size of a quarter. This has been ongoing for about 4 years. Today she is having a biopsy for a mass in her breast.

Sitting around all day on the internet writing page long, incoherent posts. Sounds like a recipe for obesity to me...Maybe if you went out and found a job BEFORE this tumor came about, they would have offered you some medical insurance.

What does owning a computer and internet service have to do with the VERY HIGH cost of a surgery? Less than $50 a month for Internet service versus $100,000+ for medical surgery.

Besides she might be using the computer at her local library. Maita, I hope you get the help you need soon to be able to have your surgery.

You still don't know her circumstances. Sometimes those who are unable to do much else need some form of contact and communication with the outside world. As for finances, we all priortize. A used computer doesn't cost much (can even be received as a gift). My internet service costs me less than $15 per month.

If you are unable to work full-time, the chances of finding a job that offers medical insurance are almost nonexistent.

I guess many of you have never heard of a public access computer (at a library or community center, for example) of about using the computer of a friend or neighbor.

You're assuming that everyone has access to a library or community center, or has friends withing walking distance. Apparently you have never lived in an area without readily available public transportation or in the country.

Thak you that is very true , I do eat right and perhaps that is why I have not become 300 lbs. But very few know this about nutrition. The media does not help with all the ads on junk food even when it is disguised as good food.

There are so many tasty foods that are good for us it is how you can prepare it that matters.

Like I make delicious fry chicken without oil.

I wash the chicken and place it in the pot with the skin facing the botton and just let it sort of melt as the heat cooks it I turn it once in a while making sure it does not burn and tha tall sides are cooked it tastes delicious it is up to you how crunchy you want it and the skin stays in the pot not in your tummy
