I will definitely be getting a flu shot this year, but I normally do ever year. This year, though is especially important. As a new mom of a four month old, it is important to protect him and his weak immune system, as well as my own. If last year was an indication of what is to come, everyone should get vaccinated!
Isn't it a little early to get a flu shot? As far as I know, the immunity you receive from it lasts an average of six months. Since flu season can last through April, wouldn't early November be the best time?
My family of four all had the flu last year during the first 1-2 weeks of October. Everyone missed a full week of school/work. I personally don't think it's too early.
Very smart. Since your little one is too young, it's a great idea to at least protect yourself and urge everyone who comes in contact with the baby (father, grandparents, babysitters, etc) to get vaccinated as well.
Just one? How about just none! Never had a flu shot and don't plan on getting one. I don't know anyone that has caught the flu in the last couple of decades.
And because you don't know anyone, no one has caught it? I doubt if everyone you now in the last couple of decades would have told you that they had the flu anyway, you don't sound like someone I would want to be talking to anyway.
Apparently you don't know many people, don't live in a highly populated area, or don't listen to the local news. H1N1 spread through several schools and Universities here and many were in the extremes from mildly ill to sick as a dog, but missed class, work, etc... Several people were hospitalized. A friend's cousin (strong and healthy 22 year old) was in the ICU for two weeks and did pull through. Others unfortunately didn't.
I get the flu shot every year and haven't had the flu in over 25 years. My daughter also gets one and we both stay healthy other than a mild cold now and then, but no flu even though we know we must be exposed to people who are carriers.
I remember having a bad case of the flu once when I was young and spent several days lying on the bathroom floor with a bucket handy, since the toilet could only handle one task and vomiting and diarrhea at the same time was not unusual. When I wasn't spewing bodily fluids, I just had a constant headache, body aches, nausea, and fever. Sucking on ice was my main nourishment for days with the occasional dosage of NSAIDs to get the fever down, hoping I could keep them in my stomach long enough to be absorbed before they came back up. I really wished I would just die in my sleep. I never wanted to go through that again.
Yes, some people will feel mildly ill from the flu shot, but that's a very small number and a lot less than the percentage of people who would get the flu if it came through your area. For myself, just knowing I won't be a carrier (whether I would catch the flu or not) and could save some people from death and a lot more from pain and suffering is enough incentive for me.
I got the flu a couple of years ago----Probably because I had a diagnosed sinus infection but the doc didn't believe in treating those. The resultant weakened immune system couldn't fight the flu which then became pneumonia. It took 3 months to get better and I never regained my full strength.
I have a kid in law school (last year). While i may not actually sue I'm not above making use of this child's talents and letterhead.
I will get a flu shot because I work in the schools and have a grandchild on the way. I do deal with allopathic doctors very carefully.
I'm a health care professional and have taken the flu shot for years and I pay for all my employees to get the vaccine as well. It protects my staff and our patients from getting or passing the flu. I really don't understand why people are so against this. This is simply using your own bodies natural defenses to protect you; it doesn't get much more natural than that.
Take the safest thing for flu, Vitamin D3 at 2000 IU per day will stop the flu and your health will be considerably better than any flu shot. Do some research and find out what's in one. You will be glad you didn't subject your children to this garbage.
I don't think you read the entire article. The Australian flu shot was never available here in the U.S. Here's a clip from the Q&A part:
Q: How do I know it's safe?
A: Unprecedented safety monitoring last year turned up no rare side effects from the special swine flu-only vaccine sold in the United States. "We're hoping a lot of the myths people had about the influenza vaccine may be a little bit less of a concern," said pediatrics specialist Brady.
Abroad, a few reports of narcolepsy after a European swine flu vaccine are being probed; that vaccine didn't sell here. An Australian seasonal vaccine dosed for young children won't be sold here after being linked to some fever-related seizures in that country.
While this article may ignore the countless studies and incidents reported around the world of severe and sometimes deadly side effects of the vaccine, it also ignores the heart of people’s concerns. Australia banned the vaccine after children suffered serious side-effects, Finland suspended swine flu shots after they were linked with neurological disorder, and the Telegraph reported on links between flu jabs and “fits” in children under 5. These concerns aren’t addressed by the article calling for everyone to roll up their sleeve and take the shot.
I've never had a flu shot either.. and I rarely ever get sick.I am not saying the flu isn't a very real threat. Esp. for babies, oldsters and people with compromised immune system. Still, it doesn't protect against all strains of flu and I think it gives people a false sense of security. Just curious but those of you who get them, what's in them? I mean other than the dead virus.. formaldehyde, thimersol (sp?) What kind of preservatives or mediums do they use? Do they disclose this info. fully before they jab you? Do they explain that yes even though the virus used in the vaccine is incubated from chicken eggs, that the eggs can only be screened for the top contaminants and not all.. Are those "myths' about flu vaccines being linked to increased risk of alzheimers and cancer over time just myths..So many questions, so no flu shot. ..
Interesting they push the shots harder when there is more on the shelf. I haven't quite figured this whole thing out, but it seems like a big lab test experiment to determine what they can do in case of a real outbreak. I hate feeling like a lab rat.
I have never got a flu shot and probably never will..I am skeptical of it. I have given my kids the regular flu shots. but I did not let my kids become lab rats for the H1N1. I am not sure on the preservatives and other crap they put in them. I love the scare tactics that the government uses and some people use "oh then your kids are going to die" crap...Come on now! Many, if not all the H1n1 victims had other contributing factors with it. I am not quite sure if anyone actually died of n1n1 alone with no other contributions. I for one will not allow my kids to become lab rats. I only allowed my kids to take the flu shot because it was the same one that they have been using for a while and there seems to be no effect or little risk. but this year i am a little more skeptical
Got the H1N1 flu last year. So did my wife and kids. It was no big deal: a couple of days on the couch. Now my kids have some lifetime immunity against similar viruses (just as those who lived through the 1918 Spanish flu had immunity against H1N1). The chances of a healthy person dying from H1N1 was about 1/100,000th that of dying from a lightning strike. But the media and government used it to sell billions of doses of vaccine.
If you followed the advice of the pharmaceutical company lobbyists who run the government agencies you now have no immunity at all against H1N1 or any similar flu. You will be dependent on the government if a really bad one comes out. But if that happens there will not be enough vaccine for us peons and you will be SOL.
The government is a wholely owned subsidiary of Goldman Sachs and GlaxoSmithKline.
Well this presents me with a conundrum. Physically disabled. got the flu shot. Never got a swine flu vaccine, due to the fact that I got the actual swine flu within days of it breaking out in my county. Besides I dont trust it based on some serious side effects. Now if I want the flu shot, I'm not really being given a choice about the swine flu part? don't think its happening for me this yr!
What the article also fails to mention is a recent study by Northwestern University that found receipt of a flu shot increases the risk of non-Hodgkin lymphoma by 53%, follicular lymphoma by 98% percent, and diffuse large B cell lymphoma by 88%. (Reference below).
Big pharma is moving away from pushing blockbuster brand drugs that treat chronic conditions since many are about to lose their patents, allowing for cost-effective generics. The big focus is now specialty medications, which focus on treating more complex conditions and cost anywhere from $5,000 to $350,000 per patient per year. These medications comprise of biological components (e.g., blood, genes) vs. chemical compounds, which means generics versions are not readily available. More than 300 specialty drugs are in the pipeline pending FDA approval. Guess what many of these drugs aim to treat: cancer. (Reference from the National Institutes of Health below).

this flu vaccine was pulled in australia for numerous problems and was considered dangerous especially for children in whom it caused seizures.
Well then just let your kid die. Are you happy now?
they were dying. stupid. and death by flu is not common.
knoman -- would you cite your source? Couldn't find a reference.
knowman death by flu is common. your post sounds ignorant, not saying you are just the idea you are trying to put over on us.
knoman,

So, how about providing some sources to back that up?

Who cares what is in them... it is fun to get shots.
I had the H1N1 virus last year, did I need to get the shots again?
I would say not. You got your dose of mercury and dead animal cancer cells last year.
Interesting they push the shots harder when there is more on the shelf. I haven't quite figured this whole thing out, but it seems like a big lab test experiment to determine what they can do in case of a real outbreak. I hate feeling like a lab rat.

well jdkd there were a lot of people who were "lab rats" for you last year. As you must know they all died, good thing you didn't get one.
Re: Knoman - Australia - Flu Vaccine Changes (my source for this information)
I don't know where Knoman read/saw this but I watched the tape of two doctors discussing this topic on www.foodconsumer.org Barbara Loe Fisher
I always get a yearly flu shot but refused the swine vac last year. Since it's an all-in-one shot this year - I'll pass.
If you read other articles on the web - H1N1 has caused Guillain-Barre Syndrome (blood disorder, platelets can't produce)
Bell's Palsy - facial paralysis...........and other side effects
Read, Research and Learn before you make your decision this year! Think for yourselves - it's your body.
Vaccinations can cause neurological disorders (and sometimes cause death). Don't take them. Don't be a guinea pig. See this link...http://www.prisonplanet.com/vaccine-deaths-and-injuries-skyrocket-as-cover-up-implodes.html
