zuzu...let me guess...no chemistry, toxicology, bio sciences in your background...but vauge concerns and fears. I do get it. But, that said...you likely drive with a cell phone in hand in spite of it being more dangerous than drug driving...and have no problems feeding organic based (known) carcinogens to your family and friends...because, you think that risk is OK.
Sorry concerned citizens...you diss corporations for the small risk they give with their products. (so you can have your convienences) and you and how you manage your lives are in fact the largest source of risks. Try not buying instead of complaining...you don't want metal or polymers in your mouth...just say no...I would rather be toothless or in pain...you really do have the choice.
Can anyone name a friendly chemical :) No such thing as zero risk ya know...you can even look up the tox dosage of water if you wish.
Of course it does. And if they had said it poses a risk and it shouldn't be used, you'd be screaming about how they're trampling all over your rights and how the government is trying to run your life.
That's a new one. I don't believe I've ever heard even a suggestion that mercury causes cancer. A google search for mercury and cancer brings up only astrological web sites, but that's the same level of science you appear to believe. Care to look up your facts before spreading paranoid propaganda?
your theory has to be the dumbest I've come across in a while. I know, my wife's a dentist. I happen to know quite a few dentists.
But NO keep those Dentists making Millions Killing People Slowly
1) sealants are cheap, much cheaper than filling cavities. Every time a dentist puts a sealant on a tooth, she virtually, almost literally, prevents herself from making more money off of it in the future.
2) amalgams are less expensive than composite fillings and hence less profitable. Every time a dentist uses one of those, she makes less money.
3) Dentists don't make "millions." Not the ones who do sealants and fillings anyway. An orthodontist might make that much in a year maybe if he has a really big practice and it's paid off. Orthodontistry is the most sought-after specialty in all of dentistry because it's the most profitable with the least amount of work. An oral surgeon might also make as much, but he's gotta work really f'in hard. Both have to be good business people as well as clinical practitioners, btw; your garden variety single dentist practice just isn't going to do it. It needs to be someone with really aggressive and effective marketing, and it has to involve more than one practitioner.
4) here's what makes general dentists the most money: Crowns/partial dentures/implants- a dentist who does a lot of those makes good money; basically, the more technical expertise and time it takes to do, the more it costs. Sealants prevent people from needing those.
if your dentist really wanted to make money off of you, she wouldn't be preventing you from having a problem that only she can fix.
Mercury is toxic when its in your blood. It also depends on the form of mercury thats used, the molecular bonds of said mercury cause the molecule to change its shape and size.
Oh and heres an FYI. If mercury enters your digestive tract it will pass through you without any issues. It will not be absorbed.
Anyways, go take your nutterball conclusions else where. Just cause the web lets you post on this board.. doesn't mean you should.
Mercury carries many EPA and other drastic warning.
Don't even handle it [put it on your skin in your hands].
I believe what ever the FDA [and friends] has to say is just opposite of reality. Why, follow the money. Whether they make or lose it. Don't use colloidal/nano silver - why - better than antibiotics and others. Flouride is ok in toothpaste - what - that is the nastiest stuff the EPA regulates.
Explain why the USA has the most [people], worst types, etc of cancer in the world.
It has to be across the board in everything. Sucralose, Aspartaime, useless wheat gluten, HFCS [not sugar].
Agreed that most medications are from nature but they can't put nature in the pill. There is some enzyme, protein, etc in nature that can't be replaced and added, thus that miracle pill may not be as safe as stated -- why MONEY ! !
Info is based on proved facts with the blood brain barrier, mercury accumulates in the brain, and the digestive tract information. A perfect example of the blood brain barrier is with shots, most all shots contain mercury for extended shelf life storage of the product. Its not toxic because of the molecular bonding that is used with the mercury, it cannot pass the blood brain barrier in its diluted and modified form. The lining of the digestive tract prevents mercury from being transferred to the blood. Tooth fillings are a very bad example of any kind of mercury poisoning. If it were true then the death rates of dentists would qualify if as "the deadliest job"
Correct, skin contact with that stuff is almost always fatal, if not fatal then it will lead to life long issues. So don't touch it.
Money trail...now we are getting way off topic for this article. I did my first post in response to the person that made the outrageous statement about tooth fillings.
I'm not saying I would recommend it, but my parents recall as kids being allowed to play with mercury and my mom worked as a dental assistant for years and used to mix the mercury to make amalgam with her hands. Gladly they are both still alive and in relatively good health.
There's definitely some debate on the efficacy of mercury fillings, but proper protocol when removing them is a must. Here are a few things to keep in mind if you're worried: http://bit.ly/a5VkjA
And, how many researchers are going to encourage/allow their children and grandchildren to get this sealant ? Not enough time in researching future results. This is similar to that HPV vaccine touted for middle-schoolers, causing deaths that are not reported because they didn't run tests long enough . That vaccine is now banned in India. Irresponsible .
tempus look up the history of use of polycarbonate plastics (that is where trace levels of BPA come from) before you imply it is a new, and unresearched chemical. And becareful what you ask for....you have no information on what the researchers are doing with personal exposures to BPA...to imply you know shows a poor value system..imo
And the link to a vacinne issue...well...I fail to find the link...other than they are both chemicals I guess (like what physical thing in the universe is not a chemical)
Brother-in-law an orthodontist, stays away from these and also won't allow flouride treatments for his children. They are all adults now and have great teeth.
You're brother-inlaw is not representative of the profession. The effect of flouride on preventing decay was not manufactured or invented at big corp. It occurs naturally in the ground water of southwest Texas, New Mexico and Arizona in cocentrations hundreds of times greater than what is now used to flouridate water. Thus, the dental profssion had a roughly 20,000 year human study with which to evaluate the long term effects on a human population. Flouride was a complete natural accident. But according to NIH the greatest
health advance of the 20th century. Why? Once you lost your teeth (pre-modern dentistry) you were going to die soon.
"The benefits of sealants in preventing kids’ cavities outweighed risks associated with bisphenol A, or BPA"
Really now. Don't suppose the Dentists want to promote the medication that causes your teeth to regenerate & completely heal the cavity. Course not...they would be out of business. Instead, make something you can pay for to prevent a cavity, but all the while ingesting toxic chemicals. Save your teeth, expose your brain to neurotoxins. *thumbs up!*
Population control...brought to you by the US Government.
Yah, we get together in dark rooms and meet with our counterparts to Dr. Mengele so we can eliminate people by use of preventive sealants (which I have in my own mouth) as we eliminate our profession very slowly... by the way were you referencing the medications to repair incipient decay on the enamel by redepositing Calcium and Phosphates into human tooth enamel....another way we sadistically try to avoid cutting on teeth unnecessarily...
Much of this material is manufactured in Germany, so the the conspiracy theory appears to be closed....
I swear to god, if it turns out David Hasselhoff is involved, it's gonna connect a LOT of dots for me...
by the way were you referencing the medications to repair incipient decay on the enamel by redepositing Calcium and Phosphates into human tooth
ok, so 1) we're talking about incipient decay, not actual caries 2) is it something topical or systemic? what is it?
Yah, we get together in dark rooms and meet with our counterparts to Dr. Mengele so we can eliminate people by use of preventive sealants
I'm married to one of your kindred, this actually makes a lot of sense. She seems to have an awful lot of "chiropractic" appointments from which she comes home smelling of roasted goat and ash late at night...
There are literally thousands of types of plastic, but yet they continue to make soda bottles, baby bottles, etc. with BPA. It's not a coincidence, it is a depopulation agenda by the new world order. infowars.com
You always here, "The amount of exposure is extremely low". Accumulation of toxic chemicals in our water, food, from our dentist, ect., when is enough? Commercials abound about how "smart" we've become, "smart" water, refrigerators, toothpaste, cars, etc. Yeah, real @!$%#ing smart!
Hey Daniel, you may want to educate yourself before exposing your foolishness to everyone. The amount of exposure is the crux of toxicity.
"A central concept of toxicology is that effects are dose-dependent; even water can lead to water intoxication when taken in large enough doses, whereas for even a very toxic substance such as snake venom there is a dose below which there is no detectable toxic effect."
Your right, I am foolish. I should have checked my spelling before I commented. I meant hear not here. I believe the body accumulates these toxins which increases the dosage you're exposed to. Then again, i'm no scientist ( although many scientists have been co-opted by various industries so it's hard to believe the @!$%# that comes out of their mouths), just a humbled human with some trust issues trying not to get poisoned. Good day.
I am amazed by these comments. Do you really think that there is a huge conspiracy by a New World Order or the US Government. I trust the government as little as anyone else, but these comments are just ridiculous. DO you really think the government should be in the business of protecting us from everything?
The really important matter is the dose of BPA or Mercury that can be released from these restorations and sealents. The levels of Mercury released have been studied for years and the dose is so low compared to foods you would or could consume that had mercury in them.
What is going to be really interesting is how dentists and patients who have been so concerned by mercury and are mercury-free (like so many European countries) will respond to this minimal evidence. What will they use for restorations now?
Either way the dose from one or two sealants per year is likely to be so low compared to daily consumption from plastic bottles with BPA, that the effect is extremely minimal. Yet other preservatives daily consumed like Sodium Benzoate or sugars like High fructose corn syrup and other CRAP in so many of the processed foods that people consume on a DAILY basis can have so much greater of an effect.
You consider the BPA and mercury in fillings to be nonsense, yet you buy into the same bad pseudo-science to believe that food preservatives or high-fructose corn syrup - or processed foods in general - are automatically bad. The same scientific processes that show the mercury in fillings is not toxic and that BPA is not a health hazard also show that sodium benzoate is safe - with a wide margin of safety - in the amounts consumed by people and that HFCS is similar to sugar. (Research showing HFCS is different from sugar are generally based on feeding animals huge amounts of pure fructose - which is not HFCS. Pure fructose and HFCS are entirely different materials in spite of their names.)
Sorry for the confusion. I am not saying that these substances are directly linked to negative side effects. I was just trying to make the point that it is all based on the dose consumed. There are many substances that are consumed on a much more frequent basis and have similarly been questioned through past research, but from my experience get mush less press than these dental substances that release much lower doses on a yearly basis.
kurt is 100% correct........... amalgam( a mixture of multiple metals) is activated by shaking it in an amalgamator. mercury is a liquid, and chemically reacts with the metals and changes chemically to a solid metal. It has been proven by extensive research over 100 years that it is safe. liquid mercury alone in the liquid state is not safe. the amount of seepage from a amalgam filling is minuscule and of no danger to anyone. If you eat one can of tuna fish you'll get more mercury exposure than you will from a mouthful of amalgam fillings in your mouth for 30 years.
Also eating any big fish king mackeral for example has high mercury levels. the environmentalist wackos(whos propaganda is based on lies not science btw) and media moron misrepresentations(who are more interested in a story than the truth) and lack of intelligence combined with the fear of anything you dont understand kinda made the perfect storm against amalgam. It is safe and continues to be the best dental filling material out there in many circumstances. Composites are also great materials but they are not as strong.dont last as long.....simply riskier for recurrent decay because they are more difficult to use in hard to get to fill areas.....
corn syrup and preservatives are know to be bad for you because of excess exposures.if your diet only exposes you to them once in a while they are safe too. problem is most peoples diets are loaded to the gills with them 24/7
as far as bpa in sealants...........again media hysteria..........but hey dont get sealants and dont get amalgams get rid of flouridated water too.....dentists have done such a good job stopping decay there is less work to do....they need the extra business
Not sure why you doubt the NWO. They have been telling us since FDR and then publicly by Bush Senior, that it is coming. Now whether it is successful can be called into question, but whether individuals or criminals are attempting to put it in place is without question. They are telling you day in day out that it is coming if you just listen to the news. Part of that agenda is a sterilazation of the population. Look at all the chemicals you take for granted that you can consume safely and you will find a good portion will sterilize you or slowly kill and disease you. Rediculous, yes it is. Do you ever wonder why you can not find mainstream chewing gums that do not have aspartame? Go check all the chewing gum in the store, even the sweetened gum, they all have apartame which is not good for children, and is highly addictive. But unfortunately these are not theory any longer. These are criminal acts in which responsible individuals need to be prisoned. Do a little research on how Monsanto is able to patent their seed products. What is done to the seed to allow resistence to their chemicals. You are eating and drinking these products daily. Their products are not theory. Forget questioning whether there is an attempt right now by very wealthy individuals to dominate the world. The Rockefeller's have told you already they are planning to do so. I dont think they will succeed, these attempts have been around since man and even the Bible warns of such attempts, but that doesnt mean there are not scientific attempts to reduce and control the population in our day. I would suggest you quit blindly saying the NWO is rediculous and do a little research.
Again, sorry for any confusion. I don't doubt the existence of the NWO. I have heard of Mansanto and think many of their practices are highly questionable. I have seen aspartame in chewing gum. There is aspartame in diet drinks as well. None of which I think is good for you especially in the large quantities it is consumed. However, there are many gums with just plain old white sugar and some with xylitol, a naturally occuring sugar which some research shows can be beneficial.
So while I do certainly believe there is a group trying to form a new world order. I am not so sure it had anything to do with BPA being in some dental sealants. And I am not certain that it is the same group that is mentioned in the Bible. If you are referring to the ten nation confederacy that will join the anti-Christ, old testament references would seem to indicate that those are all middle eastern countries (but thats a different discussion completely).
So, it's bad and stupid to do all you can to limit your exposure to toxins.
Right.
Go for it. By the time you're my age you will be a stumbling along behind a walker, but you'll probably have Alzheimer's and won't know anyway. In the meantime, you can crow about your superior intelligence. Enjoy it while you can.
It would different if we could trust the corporations, the government, and the researchers. Anyone who does gets what they deserve.
You should always limit your exposure to toxins. I would not imply otherwise. But once again it is a matter of the dose. You ingest a high enough dose of anything and it can be toxic -- that doesn't link it to a disease.
Prevent cavities through your diet, then you won't have to worry about sealants or restorations. But if you do get a cavity, you could use a BPA free composite, but who knows what they will find out later may be harmful in that composite. So it would seem the best option would be the most expesive - Gold, of course then they have to glue it in and who knows what they will find to be toxic in that. So you better not get it filled and let it progress until it could become an abcess (bacterial infection), which could of course spread to your brain and kill you.
Life is full of decisions, but is it too short to worry about them all?
Life is full of decisions, but is it too short to worry about them all?
Definitely. However, some things seem self-evident to me. Or at least evident with a little research, empirical and otherwise.
I eat 90% organic, mostly vegetarian, use non-toxic toiletries and household products, drink water treated by reverse osmosis, shower and wash clothes in water that is filtered at the point it enters my house, and wear mostly clothing made from organic cotton, silk, or wool with natural dyes. Always organic cloth in underwear and pj's. Bed linens, towels, are organic, natural dye, too. I have a whole-house air filtration system. I cook in stainless steel and glass.
Those are the things I can do to limit exposure to toxins while not limiting my life -- just everyday choices. I'm not trying to obsessively avoid anything toxic, but limit unnecessary exposure.
Fortunately, as a child I was taught to either brush my teeth after eating, or if that was not possible, to always at least rinse vigorously. If I had an abscessed tooth, I would probably have it removed, since I don't feel I can trust the information we receive. Too much corruption, too many liars for sell, too many experts whose convenience matters more than my health and well-being.
Scientists and other experts can whine all the want about public perception, but if they hadn't been caught killing people with their self-serving lies so often, the public wouldn't be so skeptical of anything they say. For me, they are lying until proven otherwise to my personal satisfaction.
Since the whole banning of BPA in water bottles, etc. was a scam with no basis in science, I'm not surprised that this usage has been shown to be safe as well. Can we have our safe, cheaper clear water bottles back now or must we continue to pay more for metal bottles because of some Luddites?
That said, bottled water is mostly un needed, cost up to 5000 times supplied water, used great quantities of energy to transport, and generates huge amounts of trash...all for what ??
Duh.....why are you buying metal water bottles more than once :) And science has no assurances...everything is a probability..bpa does have some "risk"...I don't think it is significant, or well established...but zero risk does not exist.
Why are you buying bottled water in polycarbonate bottles? Most of us fill polycarbonate bottles with tap water. I've never seen water sold in polycarbonate bottles. That certainly would be a big waste if anyone were actually doing it.
I have been in a number of positions - industry and non-industry - that work on the BPA issue and others. (I do not work in this area at all any longer - nor do I work for "industry" currently.) I do not know of ONE - not ONE - credible researchers who is concerned enough about BPA to stop using dental sealants or plastic bottles or any other product related to BPA.
A lot of information circulating about BPA is just simply wrong - propaganda by this group that has created money and prestige for themselves out of this issue. If people who work for a company are capable of lying or cheating to make more money - why aren't people who work in academia? People move back and forth between industry and university positions frequently - I have.
Interesting how people automatically assume that people like professor vom Saal don't have big career issues stake over their position on a environmental or product safety issue. Academic researchers - like vom Saal - have a lot at stake, money and prestige, when they create issues like BPA. (Vom Saal did not have a named full professor position until he became famous - or infamous - over his BPA research which many people consider seriously tainted because it was never replicated by a credible research organization.) Both experts at the US-FDA AND European Food Safety Authority have reviewed BPA and found it to be safe for use in food packaging. The same has been true of a number of other non-industry scientific organizations who have weighed in on BPA. Fears about BPA feed public fears about chemicals in general and so the media generates stories that feed those fears because such stories get attention and sell which helps sell media advertising.
By the way, if Indian food and drug regulators are your standard for scientific credibility and integrity - you don't know much about India.
Also - Consumer Reports recently stated that dentists who want to replace old metal fillings just because of mercury (or BPA) are just ripping people off. So which is it - dentists are bad for using metal fillings and BPA containing sealants or dentists are bad for removing them? As far as the media is concerned - it doesn't matter because both stories create fear and fear sells much better than good news.
if they remove your fillings and say it is ONLY because of mercury they are ripping you off
if you refuse sealants for your child you are a bad parent, if not ask the kid 5 years later when they need 6 amalgams in their back teeth if they would have preferred the sealants.
as far as bpa in the food containers that may be a real issue........you know better than i on that one???????
I'm a bad parent for refusing sealants? I have no cavities, my parents have no cavities, my children (oldest 15) have never had cavities. Why? because I feed the kids properly and make them brush their teeth. no fluoride in the toothpaste, might I add.
DWW, the problem with discussion threads like this is that everyone becomes an expert, and lots of stats and alleged conclusions get tossed around as truth, but without any documentation. The FDA has been slow to react to the growing evidence about BPA, but it is flatly untrue that the FDA believes it to be safe. Go to the FDA's web site (http://www.fda.gov/newsevents/publichealthfocus/ucm064437.htm) and you can read the following statement: "both the National Toxicology Program at the National Institutes of Health and FDA have some concern about the potential effects of BPA on the brain, behavior, and prostate gland in fetuses, infants, and young children. In cooperation with the National Toxicology Program, FDA’s National Center for Toxicological Research is carrying out in-depth studies to answer key questions and clarify uncertainties about the risks of BPA." Other countries are already ahead of us in reacting to the increasing evidence of safety risks from BPA. Canada, for example, has already banned it. As for people responding to economic incentives and possibly lying or exaggerating the evidence for fame and fortune, it's interesting that critics of the science argue the point that scientific researchers have an incentive to lie for money, while ignoring the far greater incentive for industry researchers to lie. In the latter case, if your results do not support the company position, you get fired, losing everything. In the academic world, you are protected, even if your results are not what the employer wanted. As an academician, I might lose a grant if the funder doesn't like the results, but that is far different from being forced to find another job! That's why I love the academic world--I don't get pressured to alter the results of my research, ever! Note that I am not taking a position on BPA from dental sealants; it may well be that the resulting exposure is trivial. In fact, I seriously hope that this is the case. But BPA exposure in general is clearly not trivial! We need more evidence to make a more accurate determination of the risk, but it would be foolish based on the prevailing evidence not to minimize the daily exposure of our young children to BPA.
How do you know? The amount of naturally-occuring fluoride in ground water varies greatly In fact, that is how fluoride was discovered to be beneficial to human teeth. It was occurring naturally in wells in rural Texas (at a higher level than today's optimum levels in drinking water). It is my understanding that a local dentist discovered that people from this are ahad a much lower decay rate than other parts of the country. They did ahow some fluorosis which is spotting of the teeth when the level (Parts per Million - PPM) is too high. This triggered research into the optimal levels that benefit teeth, but do not cause fluorosis.
Most states have a water testing system for about $15.00 that can report on a sample as to what is in your well water...
Ooh, ooh, the company's rebranding itself: if you don't want bisphenol A in your baby's bottle, maybe you'd like to have it sealing their teeth, where they can suck on it for decades!
I would not like it in a box, I would not like it with a fox, I do not like bisphenol A, I do not like it, GET AWAY!
Here's the point. If there is any doubt about the safety of something. Err on the side of caution. That's the problem with all the products being forced on the public. If there is a controversy, skip it. Everyone would be much better off. It's a waste of time to debate it. If that rule alone were followed, the population would be much more healthy. There are plenty of substitutes that don't have the controversy surrounding them. Do something else.
There you go. Turn your life over to the people who invent controversies for a living. Wouldn't that be a great way to live your life? Wouldn't it be better to get informed and have freedom rather than listening to every paranoid or Luddite group with a pen or a microphone?
problem is the substitutes suck .......you know ethanol gets 20-25% % worst gas mileage than normal gas that you cant get anymore.....it also ruins boat motors and many other motors as well.....ask a mechanic about it.........so where is the savings if you have to use 25% more gas for the environment, not to mention it cost more to produce and is subsidized by the govt.
environmentalist wackos with liberal media idiots that need stories are ruining this country
Affair girl....your example is not the best.....ethanol gives off less carbon (I assume that was the effect you were presenting) on a per gallon basis. One could argue that the entire life cycle (corn based) of ethanol leads to more carbon emissions (from the agriculture fertilizers portion of the life cycle)...but not the combustion part. ethanol also burns "cleaner" meaning less particulate, and "toxics" (polycyclic organic by products).
Other reasons to avoid geo carbon based gas (in my opinion)...spill, political unrest, wars, speculative price....nothing is just one thing.
rjo thanks for the new thoughts......I too hate depending on oil.....but if you have to burn 1.25 gallons of ethanol gas to every 1 gallon of non ethanol gas to go the same distance ...............are you sure those carbon emissions dont just equal out and costs 25% more money to boot.
there is also the money motivation of the environmentalist and they are using the liberal left media to spread propaganda based on unscientific data that was generated to get grants etc......
Many very smart people say global warming is just a normal fluctuation and that the graphs that looked so alarming were based on unreliable science techniques..........
The safest for the environment is Hydrogen with the fuel stored for separation as water. Break it apart as you go. H2O can be split at a certain frequency fast enough to use it for fuel. But, then that would mean nobody could tax you at the H station and oil and energy companies couldn't make money off the general population. It might help the economy though.
BPA is not harmful in dental sealants. Many do not even contain BPA. Dental decay is the #1 disease in children. Sealants are an important tool dentists have to stamp out decay. They are proven effective, and many children who do not have access to dental care receive them free of charge, so that they won't experience the horrors of abcesses and advanced tooth decay.
It amazes me that the American Dental Association continues to poison people. It doesn't make sense that you can place toxins in a child that are harmful to pregnant women. Just like, it's okay to put silver amalgams in the mouth of patients, but if they are removed, they must be disposed as hazardous waste. So, it's really safe for us? I don't think so. If it wasn't a money maker, we wouldn't be having this discussion.
she's my wife. I admittedly threw some numbers up there that are somewhere between what the internet says and IIRC from doing the daily receipts. I'm pretty sure they're lower than what she actually charges and her percentage is higher than 30, but I doubt that she charges 5x any of what I listed above. You might need to shop around a little, honestly.
One can of Starkist Tuna Fish gives you a mercury exposure equal to 20 large silver fillings over a perod of 20 years according to Consumer reports magazine studies. The mercury filling hype is just a means for some greedy dentists to replace silver fillings with a much inferior type of material such as composite resin. Only gold and perhaps ceramic are considered non toxic.
Actually most dentists are pissed off that some eviro whackos made amalgams a dirty word that scares patients.........most dentists like using what works best because they hate doing work over......its embarrassing ........although it happens often in dentistry
On what FACTS do you base your opinion? How many out of the millions of restorations placed yearly?
Are dentists resonsible to "fix" that which the patient has neglected in many cases to take a modicum of self-care?
He or she is rather responsible to do the best job possible, in an ethical manner as possible, with-in the limitations we all face each and every working day...
My grandson has recieved the sealant and it is amazing. No cavities in 3 years and going strong. I see nothing but the benefits it brings and as far as the risks, I have seen no problems. You want 'risk free'? Use nothing. I remember when people used to say using a hair dryer can cause cancer. Look what happened there.
Dentist CAN use a BPA free sealant, it is available!! Here in Portland, Oregon there are dentists that advertise a BPA FREE office! Start bugging your dentist for sealants without BPA and tell them to use it as a smart marketing tool in their advertising. Also to a web search for Dr. Mercola he has a lot to say about the dangers of BPA in sealants and how very dangerious it is for children. Switch dentists and find one who is willing to go BPA free, it can't be that big of a deal for a dental office to go BPA free, if Walmart can remove it from their shelves so can dental offices.
When it comes to health and safety, cost should never be an issue. In cases where there are non-toxic, safe alternatives available, all things toxic or potentially toxic should be banned, regardless of cost. And as for when there are no alternatives, strict warning labels should be placed on the products, like cell phones for example. It's better to err on the side of caution.
Health and safety should be #1 priority, because in the end, we all benefit financially and morally as a society when fewer people are sick.
"Toxic" and "chemical" are scare words. Everything is toxic, it's the toxicity levels you have to worry about. Our body flushes toxins out of our system, heck, our body PRODUCES toxins. If you don't want toxins, don't breath, as oxygen is "toxic." Also, "chemicals" are bad, right? H2O is a chemical...
sorry folks, but even the smallest exposure to bpa poses a risk to humans...tell me affair girl, just what do you owe this unbelievably TOXIC substance? its going to be banned completely in canada very soon, becuz we have a regulatory body that protects ppl from industry thugs.quit being so subservient, read, watch 'the disappearring male'(a documentary re'Bpa/phthalates),we need to ban all forms of toxic chemicals....just what do you like about them?
Amen, Mark! We in the U.S. should learn from Canada and Europe when it comes to public health. Our country should put the well-being of the public ahead of the special interests. I want government for the people, not the corporations!
i dont like bpa.........but to say they make sealants dangerous is nuts- the exposure is nonexistent .......now the food thing as i said before is something that i am a bit concerned about- particularly can foods???????
I am a dentist and it comes down to what is the lesser of all evils; No flouride, you get cavities. Then what do you fill them with? Amalgam, that contains mercury that becomes inert when mixed with the other metals? Composite fillings, that contain BPA and you have to use other chemicals to prepair the tooth so the filling stays? Or compomers, which are a combination of plastic fillings and glass ionomers that release flouride, so once again the flouride issue. Do the people that are afraid of flouride, amalgam and BPA just have teeth pulled? We could do gold inlays, but most people would not like to spend the money on them and we dentists would be considered "money hungry" So what are we to do? We dentists are stuck between a rock and a hard place according to the fear mongers. We just want to do what is best for our patients in the long run.
Do the people that are afraid of flouride, amalgam and BPA just have teeth pulled?
I'll take the ability to chew raw vegetables and a nice protein-rich chicken breast, alongside the possible risk that I might maybe get cancer from the teeth when I'm 80, thank you very much.
No doubt from a chicken running free on the prairie...
The hype about "free range" poultry has been debunked in many cases...minimal exposure to a small yard in the last 1 -2 weeks of the very short life as a chicken for food.
Well it looks like we have a debate among respondents. So it looks like those who believe most things that are handed to us from "officials" should go get their childrensĀ teeth sealed and those who don't stay their current course. I guess we the population will be the lab rats in this experiment. But that wouldn't be the first time, would it? We all have the freedom of choice, so go make yours.
Check your information - most dental sealants MSDS sheets and manufacturers say their brand doesn't do this? Very few do - most do not. Do your research before you blatantly say they all contain BPA or break down to BPA. Please know your facts!
Sounds like a cover up to me. I guess the CEO is worried about his or her bonus.
zuzu...let me guess...no chemistry, toxicology, bio sciences in your background...but vauge concerns and fears.
Yah sure just like they Said Amalgum Fillings Containing 52% mercury where safe Too huh.
Its Not the Mercury in the light bulbs, its the Fillings in your Mouth that give You Cancer...!!!
Mouth, brain, throat, Stomach, and Digestive. OOPS somebody made a big Mistake.
But NO keep those Dentists making Millions Killing People Slowly, it Helps Overpopulation, And the Deficit, Lol.
That's a new one. I don't believe I've ever heard even a suggestion that mercury causes cancer. A google search for mercury and cancer brings up only astrological web sites, but that's the same level of science you appear to believe. Care to look up your facts before spreading paranoid propaganda?
Tao,
your theory has to be the dumbest I've come across in a while. I know, my wife's a dentist. I happen to know quite a few dentists.

And where do you all get your info?
There is some enzyme, protein, etc in nature that can't be replaced and added, thus
that miracle pill may not be as safe as stated -- why MONEY !
The HPV vaccine is now banned in India???? And it caused DEATHS....?
I would LOVE to see your source for that information.....

tempus look up the history of use of polycarbonate plastics (that is where trace levels of BPA come from) before you imply it is a new, and unresearched chemical.
They are all adults now and have great teeth.
tempusfugit1
Population control...brought to you by the US Government.
what medicine is that?
color me skeptical, but my experience has been that Dentists, while cruel and saddistic, are generally more ethical than pharmaceutical reps.
From a cruel and sadistic dentist,
Yah, we get together in dark rooms and meet with our counterparts to Dr.
I swear to god, if it turns out David Hasselhoff is involved, it's gonna connect a LOT of dots for me...
ok, so 1) we're talking about incipient decay, not actual caries 2) is it something topical or systemic? what is it?
I'm married to one of your kindred, this actually makes a lot of sense. She seems to have an awful lot of "chiropractic" appointments from which she comes home smelling of roasted goat and ash late at night...
There are literally thousands of types of plastic, but yet they continue to make soda bottles, baby bottles, etc. with BPA. It's not a coincidence, it is a depopulation agenda by the new world order. infowars.com
if they wanted you to die, malnutrition would be a much faster way to kill you.
When it comes to toxicity, dosage is everything.
DWW,
Sorry for the confusion.
They don't like it -- tough sh*t.
Since the whole banning of BPA in water bottles, etc. was a scam with no basis in science, I'm not surprised that this usage has been shown to be safe as well. Can we have our safe, cheaper clear water bottles back now or must we continue to pay more for metal bottles because of some Luddites?
where are polycarbonate water bottles banned ?
As far as the media is concerned - it doesn't matter because both stories create fear and fear sells much better than good news.
if they remove your fillings and say it is ONLY because of mercury they are ripping you off
if you refuse sealants for your child you are a bad parent, if not ask the kid 5 years later when they need 6 amalgams in their back teeth if they would have preferred the sealants.
as far as bpa in the food containers that may be a real issue........you know better than i on that one???????
affair girl-
I'm a bad parent for refusing sealants?
We need more evidence to make a more accurate determination of the risk, but it would be foolish based on the prevailing evidence not to minimize the daily exposure of our young children to BPA.
lpj good for you........but statistically you are an exception...you are most likely drinking fluoridated water
I don't think a rural Michigan well naturally has a lot of fluoride...
Just another scare based on bad science and an enabling press and a gullible public.
True, but cost, cost, cost, cost of hydrogen vehicles and the systems needed to produce this...
Where's the $$ ? from government incentives?
Let the market work it out...
If it wasn't a money maker, we wouldn't be having this discussion.
sealant: ~$30
amalgam filling: ~$130
composite filling (no mercury) ~$175
crown ~$500
dentist takes home about 30% of production in salary. (all estimates conservative)
so your theory is that the dentist wants to get rich by making $10 off of something that prevents him from making $39, $52, or even $150?
Sure would like to meet your dentist, mine charges 2 to 3 times and in some of the things you list 5 times more.
she's my wife.
500 for a crown is dirt cheap......more like 750-1000
yeah, the more I think about it, the more I realize that my estimate was too conservative.
either way, my estimate on the sealant is just about spot-on, enhancing my point that dentists are not using sealants to get rich.
"Happens Often"?
Switch dentists and find one who is willing to go BPA free, it can't be that big of a deal for a dental office to go BPA free, if Walmart can remove it from their shelves so can dental offices.
yeah but it makes no difference what so ever if it is bpa free or not
tao....yikes. Better let the world scientists know about your mercury tox assessment...all of them would be interested in your data :)
womenonguard....quit using those vaniety products, they serve no purpose in your life...no constituent will ever be safe by your criteria.
Many Sealants used don't even contain Bisphenol-A. I personally use a product from Ultradent : http://www.ultradent.com/bpa-free/, http://blogs.ultradent.com/fischer/2008/04/bisphenola_in_dental_sealants_1.php
I strongly agree with dentaldogs statement.
Let's ban water, too. People drown in it every year all over the country!
