My in-laws who is from Mainland China came over to visit my wife and I for 8 mo. and my mother-in-law cooked for us every day. It only costs us about $150 to feed 4 people.
Mostly plant-based with some rice and very little meat. Probably the healthiest I've been in a long while..so it can be done :) (with alot of work though..she preps and cooked and took a couple of hours a day to do it)
A vegan diet is the healthiest diet. Also, the cheapest. I've been vegan for over 2 years now and my health has improved a lot and my grocery bill has been cut in half.
Totally agree with this article. Began cutting red meat, pork, white bread and highly processed foods from my diet this summer... lost weight, and saving money. Buying fresh vegetables in season is really not that expensive, and they're way more filling than processed foods when paired with healthy fats (olive oil, eggs, avacado, nuts, etc.)
Granted, I live alone, and cooking three meals takes me less than an hour, (and since I bring lunch to work I make breakfast and lunch at the same time) so I'm not saying cooking for a family would work out as well, but it's definitely cheaper than eating out, even for fast food, where meals seem to range from $5-7 now.
