Most Americans know that the 'wording' of polling questions can 'skew' the results in favor of the organization that's doing the polling.

The fact is that citizen with universal health care are more productive, healthier, and happier and that's all the benefits of it. It is a lie to say that uhc is the cause of european countries debts. This is not the reason at all! You know I get my drugs online from Canada for 1/3 the price and it costs less to fly Westjet to Canada and see a doctor for $30 dollars than it does to pay $2000 deductable plus the 250 a month for health insurance. If I was an American living close to the Canadian border, I would be doing this on a regular basis.

It does need to go further. First as long as you have health care tied to jobs, no one in this country can afford health care even when you are insured and who has a job now???...at least they passed something and the medicare bill and any legislation is not written in stone and it takes several years to build on a good policiy. this one needs IMPROVEMENT not repeal but the Republicans like to muddy the water to lie and confuse people but the Amercian people have caught on and can see their "smoke and mirror" tactics. I would not give them any majority in congress or the senate because when it comes to problem solving they get a big fat F and instead have become part of the problem, the party of no and no ideas on how to solve them only how to make things worse...yes people are angry but vote smart and vote Democrat..

Jackie, while the post you responded to was pithy & dismissive (albeit accurate), your response was to a) bash the poster and b) cite this as PROOF that (all) Republicans have no idea how to solve problems. One person's post, does not a people make. There are independent groups that study news organizations and, yes, there are biases and polls can be worded to encourage a desired response. When working Americans are hit with huge rising costs and fewer choices (and this has already begun), the realization of WHO and HOW this so-called free health care is going to be paid for will be evident. There was a Catch-22 that people didn't realize: Employers/employees will be able to keep their current coverage or opt for the Government Plan. The catch is this: FEW will be able to afford their private insurance & the Government Plan will be their only option. When one considers how affective our government is at offering services and controlling costs, consider that happy outcome. (Think SSI and Post Office, just to name two.) I would be more inclined to trust our government with tackling the health care problem if they tackled the estimated annual FRAUD of $60 BILLION in Medicare Fraud before they start writing blank checks.

The Administration sold the healthcare overhaul to the people saying that the total cost for all would be lowered and the standard of care would be increased. All indications are now that the overall cost will increase and the standard of care will be neutral. The end result appears to be just an increase of the number insured with an incremental cost increse. This legislation was not healthcare reform but just another social program. Pure and simple. The Administration lied.
Do you think that the health care system as old and antiquated as it is is going to change over night? I work in this system and it takes TIME to computerize the systems, integrate the systems and then find the data to bring down the costs...and it does work and there are several companies NOW working on cutting the cost of supplies (because before it was a free for all) and working on process improvements to reduce time thus reducing cost... The cost is coming from your insurance companies that want to get as much money as possible because they know their time is up.. What they do need is the government plans NOW because people need an option and buying high cost insurance isn't one of them. You need to vote Democrat so that they can complete the job not go back to old status quo that is not working, REPEAT NOT WORKING
We should ALL just get the same health care these politicians get or give them the same as we get and see how well they do and I'll bet their tune will change real quick. For the record, the extreme religious right is screaming their lungs out about our socialism. Someone needs to tell them to read the New Testament with their brain turned on. Their savior advocated socialism. It's not a bad word, it's a concept and it is not a bad one if it is balanced, done judiciously and allows capitalism to flourish. Our medications costs are among the highest in the world. It's not because government is involved. It's because big prham is spending over 100 million a year lining politicians pockets.

The law is just a beginning to affordable and fair healthcare, and the insurence industry already has their lackeys working to destroy it, they couldnt care less if people suffer and die, and that by itself is criminal.
While Pres. Obama & the Democrats have enjoyed, and are making a season of demonizing the insurance industry, it is noteworthy that their profit margin is a modest 3.4%. That places them 87th out of 215 industries. The highest profit margin industry: BEVERAGES. Oil & gas industries have a profit margin of 10.2 percent. Google, for example had a profit margin of 20.6 & Microsoft came in at a whopping 24.9%. Health insurance pales next to these, doesn't it? Hopefully, the remedy for this debacle will be found in the courts. I believe this far-reaching reform is a violation of our Constitution and usurps the power of the states. Insurance companies had a MODEST profit but have become the hobgoblin of politicians who, quite frankly, have made them into media monsters to promote their ideology of socialized medicine. Why would politicians do that? Because promising something for nothing got them votes. Do the math. When those on the dole exceed those that are working, what will the outcome be? I believe we should provide for those that CANNOT take care of themselves. Those that WON'T are another matter.
My insurance carrier, United Healthcare Group, had an operating profit of 7.3%, per their annual report for 2009. Their net income was 4.4% of revenue. That translates in a $3.8 billion dollars.
Comparing their profit margin to Google is meaningless. Google makes money off of discretionary spending while health insurance costs are not discretionary.
If United Healthcare Group was forced to cut their net profit in half, they would still have $1.9 billion in profit. And that is after the multi-million dollar salaries paid to their executives.
The new health care bill requires that 85 cents of every premium dollar go to actual health care. That is why the BIG money is fighting this.

"Promote the General welfare:" That phrase seems to mystify the right side of the political spectrum and to be fair it has always been a fundamental topic of debate, but there it is right in the middle of the preamble to the constitution along with provide for the common defense. Of course universal health care should have been included in the overhaul performed last year, but for some convoluted reason republicans believe that the calamitous costs of modern health care should be born by the individual instead of being shared by all. If government mandated insurance or extended medicare is the way to promote the general welfare of our country, so be it and I don't care if it is labeled socialism, communism or anything else because it is the proper policy to get us out of the hole we find ourselves in.
What part of "can't afford" dont you understand? No one is entitled to no limit health insurance, unless you personally pay for it out of your pocket. The tax payer is not obligated to pay for your health, bad habits (smoking, drinking, bad lifestyles) not withstanding.

We are billions in debt now, and bandrupting our chhildren's future. Liberals want these great reforms, but when it comes to practicality, the working class gets it in the shorts every time. It costs thousands and thousands of dollars to become a doctor. Unless we start subsidising doctor's education, and nurses also, no one in their right mind will want to become a doctor or nurse. Their re-imbursments are being cut under this Health care law, my doctor is having to let staff go, getting less than a break-even point for medicare and medicaid pts. I think the law should be repealed, and started over with a new one.Perscriptions are a rip-off too. I have one perscription for my eyes, with an insert made out of cellulose for dry eyes. It costs $235.00 Paper fiber=$234.00? I don't think so. This is insanity.

My wife and I were illegally dropped from our health insurance. I could not sue for punitive damages due to "tort reform". They can sue me but I cannot sue them. This is the problem with tort reform. It takes you rights away from you. So do not tell me that the system did not need a major overhaul WITH a public option. The Conservatives blocked the public option because they do not want to give anything to the poor, only the rich.
Some of you choose to neglect the difference between the right to have health care and "shall be provided at the expense of others" which is unconstitutional in the USA. Seems that most of you would choose Socialism over a Republic of free men. If you refuse to assume responsibility for yourself, then try to force someone else to do it for you. In Central Florida, Our medical clinics are full of Canadians seeking Medical help due to the long wait to be seen in Canada, U.K., and other countries that have government run programs. I believe there was an article in Newsweek 2-3 months ago that did a comparrison by country that revealed the USA had the best, most comprehensive, and most timely treatment anywhere. I don't know where you are, but my statement has been a widely accepted and documented fact for some years, it's not new news. Nothing outlandish. I'm just really surprised you don't know. Perhaps i should have said "many" Canadians rather than most."

I have worked with Pediatric surgeons at Stanford who have worked at Toronto Children's Hospital and are livet that they cannot get their kids the same care for in the US the coverage that the Canadian goverment provides for the same conditions... To pay for 30 million Americans forced to take health care it will raise insurance costs. To pay for no preexisting conditions insurance costs will increase. To pay for children to age 26 will cause insurance costs. We have enforced requirements for health care, that is unconstitutional. There is now a 3.25% national real estate tax in the health care bill. The government has nationalized the student loan program in health care. Some 500 billion will be taken from Medicare to help pay for those who do not have insurance. Think that will increase coverage and lower costs for seniors? Ya right. Medicare plan A is just being dropped, which will increase costs and lower coverage for seniors. The reason Obama said we needed to pass the HCB now or we will face a crisis is that health care cost are too high. Well everything in the HCB is going to increase costs and increase the national debt. So instead of a system that needed to tweeks we have a REAL crisis all because of this new radical liberal health care bill. The bill is fiscally unsustainable and Obama and his socialist liberal Democrats know it. If they couldn't get socialist national health care they wanted to destroy the system we have now to drive the country to socialism. Real Alinskys rules for radicals. Rules, honesty, ethics, morals, character mean nothing to radical socialist lilberals, they just want to push their radical socialist dogma. Read Obama's books. It maybe fine when an industry can make a modest profit compared to other industries, and that may make them look like they are doing us a favor. And most industries could do that while reducing the number of people that can afford their services. If Ferrari wants to make the lowest profit margin in the auto industry while pricing their cars so only 5% or less of the population can afford one, fine. But we are talking about an industry here that is important to life on this planet. Ferrari' are not important to life, regardless of who you ask. Health care, however, helps the population reduce illness, helps to control outbreaks and many other issues that should not be overlooked in the hopes of making a case for their profit margin numbers.
