It's a proven fact that negative attitudes permeate every aspect of our lives, and are often visible to others when we ourselves can't see it. Body language is a well known factor in whether or not someone gets a job.
Do yourself a favor, think about what the article says - if nothing else, your kids and wife will be happier with you. Of course, you could be the ahole and not give a damn about them, in which case we don't care either.
I have been able to reduce, though, unfortunately, not eliminate, some of my PTSD symptoms through Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, or EMDR. As a survivor of long-term, severe physical and sexual abuse as a child, my PTSD can be very difficult to live with for me and my family. Any form of relief is welcome though, for me, it is also usually fleeting. Medications often prescribed for this condition had adverse effects.
Regardless, I hope the medical community continues to research ways to alleviate the debilitating anxiety that accompanies the flashbacks and nightmares that haunt too many of us even decades after we've experienced trauma.
John I have been there. Your story and mine are very similar, except that in my case, I finally did receive additional relief from meds. That helped get me over some severe bumps in the road. There are many practices out there for folks like us, from meditation, exercises and biofeedback, to medications and supplements, to help us through PTSD.
Over time, we learn to accept our anxiety. But it makes me sad that so much of my young adult life was been spent dealing with the effects of the past instead of being productive for my future.
These are trajic times for many. When my neighbor loses his job it is a recession when I lose mine it's a depression. It's impossible not to let these things not get the best of us at times and for many of us it's all too frequent. The pill for being what we all have e.g. ahole is not yet invented. I wish everyone work, love and peace...
